Bro . Menninger said that after the eloquent speech of Bro . Davis he did not know what to say , except that the little present was given by the members with theii hearty good wishes , and the hope that the G . A . O . T . U . might spare Bro . Graham , for many years to come . As regarded himself , and tho assistance he had rendered in furnishing the Lodge ; it was purely a matter of love for Freemasonry , and whatever assistance he could render he would be pleased to afford . The testimonial consisted of a handsome gold watch , suitably inscribed as follows : —

Presented to our esteemed BRO . J . D . GBAHAM P . M . Preceptor of the New Cross Lodge of Instruction , 1559 , for services rendered during the year .

1899-1900 . Bro . Graham , in reply , said the Brethren had taken the wind out of his sails . He did not think he deserved such a handsome present , as what he did or what he had done was purely for the love of Freemasonry . He always did his very best , and any Brother wishing to join the Instruction Lodge would receive a most hearty welcome and such tuition as he required . He considered there were other members who also deserved great praise for their

assistance ; for instance , the W . M . Bro . Menninger , Bro . Faaz their Secretary , Bro . Davis , and Bro . Johnson , who was also a Preceptor of several Lodges ; all had rendered great service to the Lodge . He most sincerely thanked all of the members for the handsome present he had just received , and promised them he should wear it with pride , and when he looked at it it would remind him of the happy hours he had spent , and create a hope that he would spend many more such in the New Cross Lodge .

A hearty vote of thanks was offered from the chair to the following Officers , who had so kindly rendered valuable services at the Festival : Bros . E . Beadle , G . Faaz , W . Menninger , J . Swash , T . Davis , and W . G . Lacy . Bro . Faaz Secretary thanked Bro . Graham for the compliment paid him in mentioning his name with the toast . Bro . Beadle was pleased to say that they had all done their best to make

the meeting a great success ; next time they hoped it would be even better . Bro . Menninger was pleased that , considering the very short notice the Brethren received , everything was so perfect , and sincerely thanked Bro . Beadle for the very kind and able assistance he had rendered . He also thanked Bro . Faaz for the great amount of trouble he had taken in writing to the members , which WHS all done at such a very short notice and yet in such au able manner .

Bro . Graham again rose and said he could not let the opportunity pass without complimenting Bro . Lake on the excellent dinner he had provided ; it was all that could be desired , and it had given great satisfaction to himself , and he was sure to the Brethren likewise . Bro . Lake i hanked tbe W . M . and Brethren and was delighted to hear he

had given satisfaction , and that the Brethren had enjoyed the repast . The musical arrangements were under tho direction of Mr . Herbert W . Knight , L . A . M . ( Author , Composer , and Musical entertainer ) , and was of high class character . The song "A Gentleman in Kharki" was sung by the composer Mr . Knight , and resulted in an encore and the sum of £ 1 lis 6 d being collected for the " Daily Telegraph " Fund .

Tho following also added to the enjovment of tho evening : Bro . Fred Payne , who was in fine form and rendered some beautiful songs ; Bro . Davis , whost * song Merry England was deservedly encored ; B'o Tu 1 , who gave as an encore " Can ' t have too much of a good thing . ' Bro . Gammon recited the Charge of the Light Brigade ; while Bros . Jacobs , French and s < -veral others assisted , notable among the entertainers being Mr . J . H . Heathman , who sang some excellent songs in good style . Mr . Herbert Knight presided at the piano , and gave some splendid solos . The singing of Gnd save tbe Queen and Auld Lang Syne brought the proceedings to a successful close .

Having taken the obligation Bro . Taylor was duly installed . The Lodge was called off and on . The W . M . invested the Officers , and Bro . West delivered the three addresses . The W . M . next proceeded to rehearse the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Pound acting as candidate . The Lodge was advanced to the second degree , and the same Brother answered the questions . Bro . Horst W . M .-elect 1471 was elected to preside at the next meeting .

The Lodge was opened , and called off and on . The questions were answered and the Lodge opened in the second degree , when the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , Bro . Punter acting as candidate . The 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th sections of the lecture were worked by Bro . A . Busby P . M ., assisted by the following Brethren : Bros . Islip , Feistel , Rusby ( Bro . Crisp asking questions ) , and Roberts .

Tho members of the Duke of Connaught Lodge of Instruction who occupied the Offices and assisted in working the sections were elected Honorary Members , and votes of thanks were tendered to the Visitors .

ON Monday , 22 nd ult ., Bro . J . Gawthrop presiding , the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Emery acting as can lidate . Bro . Oldry answered the questions , and the ceremony o £ raising was rehearsed , Bro . Goldby acting as W . M . Bro . Gawthrop resumed the chair and Bro . Goldby was elected W . M . for the next meeting .

The annual supper is to be held on the last Monday in Februray . The resignation of Bro . Horste id as Organist w . is received with regret , and Bro . H . Dunnaway was elected in his place .
