Principles and distinguishing characteristics of Masonry . This finished , Bro . Holland presented to the Lodge , on his own behalf and on behalf of Bro . Tongo , two very handsome bronze columns , which had been manufactured at the works of the latter . They bore the following inscription : —
Brotherly love between Bro . E . HOLLAND P . M ., Albert Victor Lodge , No . 1773 , and Bro . TONGE , of Harmony Lodge , No . 935 ,
has caused these columns to be presented to the Albert Victor Lodge , 16 th February 1894 . A vote of thanks to the donors , proposed b y Brother Threfall , seconded by Bro . Hardcastle , and supported by Bros . Statham and Mosley was carried . At the festive board the toasts were submitted , that of the Visitors heing proposed by Bro . Townson in a capital
speech . The visitors , in responding , spoke of the illustrations which had been rendered that evening , and admitted that they were something unique in their experiences of Masonic work . Bro . Parker , the retiring W . M . Subsequent to the installation a banquet was held at which Bro . T . G . Parkes , the I . P . M ., was presented , on behalf of the Lodge , with a Masonic gold jewel , studded with diamonds , and a diamond ring , as a token of
the . esteem and regard in which he was held by the Brethren of the Lodge . Bro . Parkes replied , and congratulated the Lodge on the successful year they had just experienced , and upon the amicable way in which the Officers and members had worked and supported him . The W . M ., in giving the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge , spoke of the great indebtedness of the Province to its G . M ., Earl Euston , who had taken a foremost place hi the Masonry of the kingdom . Only the night before , they were proud to see that the
Earl of Euston had been installing the Duke of Connaught in the Mastership of the Euston Lodge of Mark Masons . They had been indebted , too , in the Province , and in that Lodge in particular , to the fraternal help and guidance they had received from the Deputy P . G . M . Bro . Butler-Wilkins .
Bro . Butler-Wilkins said there were no doubt Provinces with a larger number of Lodges , but there was no Province which could boast of a more earnest or capable Grand Master . : Bro . F . Willoughby gave the toast of the evening , the health of the W . M . He must congratulate the Lodge on having elected so worthy a brother to fill the office .

M ., mentioned that at the Lodge of Fidelity , Towcester , a project had been set on foot , with tho fu } l sanction and approval of the Prov . G . M . and the Deputy Prov . G . M ., for placing a stained glass window in Towcester Parish Church , in memory of the late Bro . G . Osborn , who was the father of Masonrv * in the Province . Bro . Oshor ' n was
initiated in 1837 , was one of the founders of tho Lodge of Fidelity , and he was also present a ; the inauguration of Provincial Grand Lodge , serving as a Provincial Officer in 1846 . The Lodge of Fidelity had itself voted twenty guineas towards the object . He merely mentioned the matter now that the brethren might'bo prepared to assist in thc movement when it was launched . o o o
WIRRAL LODGE , No . 2496 . THE first regular meeting of this new Lodge was held in the Masonic Rooms , Music Hall , Birkenhead , on Thursday , the 1 st inst ., Bro . Thos . Shaw W . M . After the duties of the Lodge were over the Brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , served by

TEMPERANCE IN THE EAST LODGE , No ! 350 . THE installation meeting took place at its new quarters , tho Bromley Vestry Hall , on the 14 th ult . Lodge was opened by Bro . Archibald Trew W . M . Bro W . A . C . Lowry was balloted for and advanced . Bro . W . G . Bridges S . W . was then installed by Bro . Geo . Graveley P . M . P . P . G . Sd . B ., & c . After banquet the usual
toasts were honoured . The Prov . Grand Master for Middlesex , Bro . Colonel Cook , said it was the first time he had visited the Lodge , and expressed his satisfaction with the very efficient way
in which every part of the work had been carried out . The W ! M , had reason to be proud of his Officers , also in having the assistance of such a worthy Mason as Bro . P . M . Graveley , who was the father of the Lodge .
Covent Garden Opera House . —The third grand Fancy Dress Ball of this season took place on Wednesd ay , 28 th ult ., and appeared to be more fully attended than on previous occasions . Certainly the number of visitors in fancy dress was larger , and the costumes worn presented greater variety both among the ' male : as
well as the fairer dancers . Among more noticeable novelties were a " Jabez Balfour " costume , composed of gold and silver coins and bank notes ; a charming dress representing a rainbow and waterfall , and a handsome Turkish design denominated " Constantinople . " An eccentric arrangement which could hardly have been
comfortable to the wearer , was " A Village Stores , " while an imitation bronze statue came in for a deal of chaff . The pretty scene of Old Vauxhall Gardens became gay enough after supper and much merriment was caused by the accidental dipping of a couple of the spectators in the fountain . Mirth and jollity reigned
supreme , while the best thanks of the danceis are due to Messrs A . Collins and Neil Forsyth , who kept the space in front of the orchestia well cleared for their accomodation . Mr . J . M . Glover
again conducted his capital company of musicians , and no less than twenty-five dances , some of which were encored , were admirably rendeied . The prizes as usual were a great attraction , but we ' re not awarded until the termination of the carnival .
The Belgrave Dairy Company is urging on the Royal Agricultural Society of England the desirability of taking steps to stop or minimise the sale of separated milk , on the ground that it is ruinously handicapping the dairy industry , and also because the
public should only receive genuine articles . Every effort in the direction of securing pure food is deserving of support , and on that ground , if for no other , we hope success will attend this movement .
