KNIGHT TEMPLARY IN NEBRASKA .
A NEATLY got-up brochure , containing tbe Proceedings of the Grand Commandery of Nebraska , at its thirteenth annual Conclave , is to hand , and from it we learn that the gathering , in the Asylum of Mount Moriah
Commandery , No . 4 , New Masonic Temple , Lincoln , Nebraska , was attended by representatives from ten of the thirteen chartered Commauderies of tbe Jurisdiction , under the presidency of R . B . Sir Thomas Sewell Grand
Commander . The acting Grand Captain-General , Sir Edgar S . Dudley , formed the assembled Kni ghts , and the Grand Commander entered and assumed the command . After inspection , review , rehearsal , and devotions , tho
Grand Commandery entered upon the labours of the annual Conclave . On the first evening of the session credentials were presented of Officers ancl membera entitled to seats , and who included representatives of Mounts Calvary ,
Olivet , Carmel , Moriah , Zion , Lebanon , Hormon , Sinai , Tabor , Horeb , Nebo , Hebron , and Palestine . In delivering bis annual address , tbe Grand Commander welcomed the representatives with unfeigned pleasure to the Conclave .
Through the tender mercies of Almi ghty God they wore again permitted to assemble around the altar and offer up their thanks to tho Giver of all good for the many tokens of His unbounded love . Not only as Templars had they
been favoured , but as a State . The earth had yielded an abundant harvest , ancl the granaries of the husbandmen were filled to overflowing . Their numbers hacl been materiall y increased , and he hoped the material thus received into
their asylum would add lustre and honour to their noble Order . Peace and harmony prevailed throughout their jurisdiction . Reference is then made to the religious service at Trinity Cathedral , Omaha , on Ascension Day , which
was followed by a banquet given by the courteous ancl generous Templars of the Mount Calvary Commandery , then Grand Commander Sewell installed the Officers elect for the ensuing year , and a p ilgrimage was made to the
homes of several of Omaha ' s honoured Knights , " whose unbounded hospitality was appreciated by all participating " Speaking of the foreign correspondence , the Grand Commander returned thanks to E . Sir John J . Monell inn . for
his report , which was alike creditable to himself as well as to this Grand Body . He accepted , in Jnly , on behalf of himself and staff , an invitation from the Mount Moriah Commandery , No . 4 , Lincoln , to participate with them in
the ceremonies of laying the corner-stone of the State Capitol of Nebraska ; and iu May he installed the Officers of the Mount Moriah Commandery , No . 4 , Lincoln ; and the Mount Calvary Commandery , No . 1 , Omaha ; at the same time and place installiu" * Sir Charles A . Holmes
as Grand Standard Bearer , he not being present at the installation of Grand Officers . Feeling reference was made to the death of Sir Knight Wm . 15 . White , who was " well ancl favourably known throughout our State . " A peculiar sadness surrounded this comrade ' s death . A few hours
preceding his demise a son was born to him . He took tbe babe in his arms , kissed ancl blessed it , and after namino * it after himself his spirit passed through the Golden Gate .

In his death was extinguished one of tho brightest lights in the asylum of Mount Calvary Commandery . The decease was also noted of Sir Elbert Hartwell English , who
was " an able and profound jurist ; and well known throughout this State , " and of Sir Hiram Hubbard Past Grand Commander of Illinois . A general order had been received from the Most Eminent Grand Master
Sir Robert huioch Withers , recognising the Supreme Grand Priory of Canada as a sovereign aud independent body . Several " decisions " were then set out , referring to a request from Mount Nebo Commandery for a special dispensation to change tho date of their Conclave , in respect
of which he declined , " believing that the emergency did not exist that required such a stretch of authorit y as to change the Bye-laws of a subordinate Commandery , " adding that the undoubted prerogative of tbo Grand Commander to grant Dispensations should onl y be exercised in
extreme cases . Special Dispensations hacl been granted to various Commauderies , amongst others to appear in uniform and attend religious services at the City of Grancl Island ; to participate in the exercises of Decoration Day fit Beatrice ; to act as an escort to the Grand Lodge of A . F .
and A . M . on the occasion of laying the foundation-stone of the new State Capitol building ; to march , in uniform , as Rod Cross Knights , from the Asylum of the Mount
Moriah Commandery at Lincoln , to the Commercial Hotel , to attend a banquet ; to the Mount Lebanon Commandery to appear in full uniform on Easter Sunday for the purpose of attendino" Divine service iu one of the churches of Grand
Island ; and to Mount Hermon Commandery to ballot on certain petitions for the Orders of Knighthood within less timo than that provided by the Code of Statutes . Visitations wero made during the year to several Commanderies , all of which were well Officered and inline condition . Some
of tbe Asylums were described as models of perfection , and the Grancl Commander observed " there is nothing * I can say that will give additional lustre to their well-earned fame , which has spread both far and wide , for knightly
deeds and acts of pure beneficence . " At the Easter Sunday service with Mount Moriah Commandery , at Lincoln , " forty swords were presented , and each Sir Kni ght renewed his vows of fealty to the risen Christ , with a renewed determination to wield his sworcl in defence of the Christian
reli gion . " Holy Trinity Church was beautifully decorated for the occasion wifch flowers and evergreens , the floral offerings being emblematic of the Order .
Recommendations as to uniformity of costume in the various Commauderies , ritual , and other matters , concluded the Grand Commander ' s address , which Avas listened to with rapt attention .
An interesting feature in the Conclave was tne presentation , by Mrs . Edwin Davis , of Omaha ( wife of Sir Edwin Davis I . ) of the portrait of the First Grand Commander Sir Henry Porter Deuel , in which that lady addressed the Conclave as " Gentlemen Sirs , " and says :
" During the tournaments and public assemblies held in the ages of tho Crusades , when tho orders of Knighthood seem to have had their origin , great regard wag shown to ladies , and a chaplet of tlowcrs bestowed by tho hands of a fair lady upon tho brow of a knight , victorious in their trials of skill , was deemed the

It need hardly be said that the gift presented m such ehivalric terms was accepted wifch " keen satisfaction and pleasure , " ancl duo acknowledgment of it made to the fair donor .
