PROSPERITY LODGE , No . 65 . THE annual installation meeting of this old established Lodge was held on the 25 th ult ., at their new quarters at the Holborn Restaurant . The Lodge was opened by the W . M . Bro . W . J . Greig , who was supported by close on 200 Brethren , among whom were about forty Past Masters , says the " East London Observer . "
After preliminary business , the W . M . proceeded to raise Bros . J . Carter , L . Newman , W . G . Read , and B . S . Underwood , immediately following this ceremony by passing Bros . G . Laurispach and P . Barabain . He next proceeded to install his successor in the ohair . Too much praise cannot be bestowed on Bro . Greig for the excellent and impressive manner in which he
performed the installation , as well as the previous ceremonies of passing and raising . The Worshipful Master for the ensuing year Bro . G . T . Kinipple , one of the churchwardens of Stepney , then invested his Officers , giving the address to , each in a manner thoroughly up to the traditions of this Lodge for excellency of work .
The following sums were then voted unanimously : —ten guineas to H . R . H . the Prince of Wales Hospital Fund ; one guinea to the fund being raised by the Freemasons for endowing a bed at Guy ' s Hospital ; three guineas to a former Brother in great distress ; and five guineas for a Life Governorship of one of the Masonic Charities , for presentation to the wifeof the Secretary of the Lodge Bro . Harriss P . M ., in appreciation of the able and courteous manner in which he has performed the duties of his important office .
After hearty good wishes , the Lodge was closed in due form , and the Brethren adjourned to the Crown Room , where the banquet was excellently served under the personal superintendence of Bro . Hamp . The W . M . gave the usual preliminary toasts . Bro . Greig proposed the Worshipful Master , in happy terms , stating that the Lodge had fortunately had a succession of excellent Masters , carrying out the precepts of the Craft , and he felt sure that the present W . M . would not be behind ariy of his predecessors in this respect , but would prove a Master of whom they would all be proud .
The W . M . had a most cordial reception on rising to respond . He said there were moments in every man ' s life when he found it very difficult to find words to express all that was in his heart ; that was one of the most peculiar moments in his own , but he did most heartily thank the Brethren for the kind reception they had given him , and the members of the Lodge
for electing him to the exalted position that it was now his privilege to hold When he was initiated ten years ago he thonght he could not attain to this position , but by the grace of the Great Architect he had been spared to do so . He would do his best , and should be amply rewarded if at the end of his year of office it could be said to him , " well done , good and worthy Brother . "
In submitting the toast of the Installing and I . P . M ., Bro . Kinipple said he approached the task with some diffidence , as it might be considered that he was simply reciprocating the kind words Bro . Greig had used towards himself , but they must admit that Bro . Greig bad proved himself one of the most able Masters the Lodge had ever had , and that he had completed his year of office as W . M . most successfully by the able manner in which he had
rendered the installation ceremony that evening . It was indeed a very pleasant duty that he had to perform in pinning on his breast the Past Master ' s jewel , and also presenting him with a silver tea service and tantallus , as a mark of appreciation of his very valuable services during the past year . They all hoped he and his wife would be spared many years to make good use of them in memory of his many Masonic friends .
Bro . Greig , evidently touched by the kindness of the Brethren , said it was a very embarrassing and difficult task to adequately acknowledge such great kindness , especially when accompanied by such handsome presents . He had done his best for the Lodge , and should continue to do so . He heartily and sincerely thanked them , and that moment would remain engraven on heart and memory all his life .
The W . M . then gave the toast of the Visitors , saying he was particularly fortunate in having so many present at his installation . They were always pleased to see and entertain guests , and he hoped they had all thoroughly enjoyed themselves . With the toast he coupled the names of Bros . J . R . Johnson P . M ., J . G . Millbourn P . M ., F . T . Wood P . M ., and J . Tolworthy W . M . ; who , in replying , bore testimony to the excellent working in the Lodge , and expressed appreciation of tho manner in which they had been welcomed and entertained .
Shortly before the close of the proceedings the W . M . announced that , including the ten guineas voted by the Lodge , the amount collected at the banquet table would enable them to send 427 shillings to their M . W . G . M . 's Hospital Fund , in the name of the Lodge and their visitors .
HOLLOWAY LODGE , No . 2601 . HELD in Beale's handsome Masonic rooms , the second installation meeting of this Lodge was attended by a large and influential number of Brethren , under the presidency of Bro . James Terry P . G . Swd . B . W . M . who regularly opened tbe Lodge and disposed of the preliminary business .
Bro . Fred Varley was presented by Bro . V . Lamer , and was installed in an able and impressive manner as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . Messrs . R . Midworth and T . B . Herbert were initiated into the Order . Letters of regret having been read b y Bro . Macfarlane Secretary , from several friends unable to be present , the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to the banqueting hall , where an excellent repast was served . The I . P . M . there proposed in eulogistic terms the health of the W . M ., the sentiment being received with enthusiasm .
The Worshipful Master , in thanking the Brethren for the honour conferred upon him , promised to do all in his power for the prosperity of the Lodge . He was installed Master of the John Hervey Lodge , No . 1260 , in 1893 , and vacating the chair of that Lodge he considered it to be his duty to further extend the grand principles of Freemasonry . Although the Holloway Lodge was only consecrated last year , he was proud to say that it had already become a complete success .
Reports Of Meetings.
The next toast was the Installing Master , and in proposing this the Worshipful Master referred to the valuable services Bro . Terry had rendered , not only to the Craft and the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , but to the Holloway Lodge in particular . He pinned on Bro . Terry's breast the Past Master ' s jewel of the Lodge , which had at the previous meeting been voted unanimously to him , and also handed to him a handsome present from the Brethren for Mrs . Terry .
Bro . Terry thanked the Brethren most heartily , and mentioned that he was Past Master of fourteen different Lodges . The newly initiated were toasted , as were also the Visitors , the Treasurer , the Secretary , and the Officers .
