New Masonic Orphan School, Dublin.

. fascnic charity , to tho honour and advancement of tho Order , ami to the inestimable advantage of mauy orphans upon whose yonnc lives tho shadows ( if death and of impending poverty may have rested , but to whom this institution will afford a safe and happy refuge . In the past our school has done a noblo work . It affords a true home ami a place of generous education to our pupils during

their early years . We use every effort to watch over them , as over our own children , until they have reached independence . According to their several abilities , they are prepared to earn their livelihood by teaching or in business , and the resources of the Masonic Order enable us to place them in safety throughout tho empire wherever their welfare and advancement cnri best bo secured . To those who

prove themselves capable , we give tho highest training we can obtain , sending them , when necessary , to England and . to the Continent to complete their education . In our school's long register there is not one single instance of shame or discredit brought upon us by the conduct or character of those whom we have sent into tho world . Wo know that very many havo been enabled to secure a

happy independence , and to attain substantial aud oven brilliant success iu life by thoir use of tho teaching received in our Masonic School , and we aro proud and thankful to believe that , though scattered over almost tho whole earth , they havo ono and all proved themselves to have been virtuously brought up in the love cf God , to learn and labour truly to do their duty in that state of life to which

it has pleased Him tn call them . For tho future , stedfast in faith , joyful through hope , and rooted in charity , we reverently commend onr work to "the Father of the fatherless , who defended tho cause of the widows , even God in his holy habitation . " Most Worshipful Grand Master , the corner stone of the foundation of this our New Masonic School has been , in obedience to tho charge laid upon us ,

fitly prepared , and is now ready to bo made the corner stone of the building . We therefore now crave your fraternal assistance in duly laying the same in its proper position , at the north-eastern angle of the foundation . The Grand Chaplain having made the invocation , the stone was laid with tho customary ceremonies , and tho Grand Officers having returned to their places , the Grand Master said—We , James Duke of Abereorn , Grand Master

of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Ireland , and the Masonic jurisdiction thereunto belonging , declare this corner stone to be plumb , level , and square , and so duly laid according to the ancient usages , customs , and landmarks of Freemasonry ; and may the Great Architect of Heaven and Earth bless tho work here begun , and make it memorable to the latest generations ! All present then joined in singing the following verses of the Hundredth Psalm : —

With one consent let all the earth To God their cheerful voices raise Glad homage pay with awful mirth , And sing before Him songs of praise . For He ' s the Lord , supremely good , His mercy is for ever siu-o ; His truth , which always firmly stood , To endless ages shall endure .

The Eight Worshipfnl Deputy Grand Mas'er , with the Right Worshipful Grand Wardens , then proceeded to tho corner stone , accompanied b y the Past Masters bearing the vessels containing tho corn , wino , and oil , nnd the Grand Steward presenting to the Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master the cornucopia , he dropped the corn on tho stone , and said— "May plenty be showered down on the people

of this ancient realm , and may the labours of the Graft bo refreshed by tho Great Giver of every good and perfect gift . " The Grand Steward then presented tho wine to tho Eight Worshipfnl Senior Grand Warden , who poured it on the stone , and said— " May the health of tho Craftsmen employed in erecting this building bo preserved to them , and may the supreme Architect bless and prosper

their labours . " The Grand Steward then presented the oil to tho Right Worshipfnl Junior Grand Warden , who dropped oil on tho stone , and said— "May the Supreme Rrderof the world vouchsafe unity , peace , and prosperity to all the subjects of her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria , and to the nations of the earth ; preserve and protect the fraternity of Freemasons ; make the virtues of the Craft

a lesson to the world , and the labours of the Craftsmen easy , and their burdens light . " The Grand Officers returned to their stations and places . Tho Right Worshipfnl Deputy Grand Master then presented the architects ( Messrs . M'Curdy and Mitchell ) to the Grand Master , saying— " Most Worshipful Grand Master , —Let me present to you Brothers M'Cnrd v and Mitchell , chosen to be the architects of tho Kew

Masonic School . They have their Craftsmen ready for tho work , and desire you to give them tho designs from tho trestle board . " Tlio Most Worshipful Grand Master then handed them tho plan , and entrusted thern with tho work . Tito Grand Steward then proclaimed : —Silence ' , silence I silence ' . Brethren , —Take notice that James , Duko of Abereorn , Most Worshipful Grand Master of the

Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Ireland , and Masonic jurisdiction thereunto belonging , has this day , at this place laid the corner-stone of tho Xcw Masonic Female Orphan School . " Ho icpeated the proclamation three times , turning S ., W . and li ., and after the third time , facing the East , added : — "Wisdom ! Strength ! Fraternity ! " The Grand Chaplain gave tho benediction as follows : —

May the blessings of Gal Almiehfcy , who made tho heavui and tinearth and nil work ' s , and they wl . o dwell therein , be with us all , and remain with ns , now and for ever . Amen . " Tho band having played the Hallelujah Chorus , M . A \ o trust and believe that these children will be brought up in thoso principles which aro tho staple and groundwork of Freemasonry , and which aro the best calculated to make them hereafter useful , benevolent , and religious .
