AN emergency meeting of this ilourishiug Priory was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on Friday , the 26 th nit ., the object for whioh aud tho reasons why the Knights woro thus summoned is g iven in tbo following letter from Sir Knight Richard Clowes E . Preceptor De Warrenne Preceptary .

Dear Sir Knight , —His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., G . C . T ., & c , & c , National Great Prior of Ireland , having accepted the office of Provincial Prior for Susses , finds it is impossible for him at present to lis a day for his installation , but hopes to do so in November . After tho installation His Royal Highness will preside

at a Provincial Priory , at which ho will appoiut aud invest his Officers . His Royal Highness has done mo the distinguished honour to appoint me his Depnty , and has requested the Great Sub-Prior of England , the Right Honourable the Earl of Euston , to instal me as Provincial Sub-Prior at the earliest opportunity , at a date convenient

to himself . The Earl of Euston has fixed Friday , 26 th August , for the ceremony , which will tako placo at tho Masonio Rooms , Royal Payilion , Brighton , at d' 30 for 5 o ' clock preoisely .

The Great Sub-Prior will bo assisted by several Offioera of the National Great Priory of England , and I vonture to hope that the Offioors of tbo Provincial . Priory and the Knights of SUBSOX will make it convenient to attend in order to receive the Great Officers in due form , and also to assist mo on this occasion .

The Knights responded to tbo above , and a goodly number assembled within the walls of tho Royal Pavilion , amongst whom We noticed Sir Knights tho Rt . Hon . the Earl of EuBton Great Sub-Prior of England , Col . Marmaduke Ramsay District Grand Prior of Malta , Baron de Ferrioros , F . A . Philbrick , E . Letchworth , R . Berridge ,

W . M . Bywater , C . F . Matier , Driver , Cook , Cooper , Balfour , Cookburn , Carrell , Lennox Browne , Cartel , Clowes , Stewart Brown , and others . The Great Sub-Prior was received with the full hononrs appertaining to his exalted rank , and the Priory duly opened . Lord Huston then stated that H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught , K . G ., & o .,

Provincial Prior of Sussex , had requested him to carry out the installation of the Provincial Sub-Prior of Sussex , the time of His Royal Highness being occupied with so overwhelming au amount of other important duties that he was unable to be present at Brighton on this occasion . He ( Lord Euston ) was only too pleased to comply

with the request of His Royal Highness , and the more so as Sir Knight Clowes was so eminent and so distinguished a member of the Fraternity . Sir Kuight Clowes having been introduced by the Grand Officers , was regularly obligated and installed . The Prov . Sub-Prior entertained a large party at dinner at tho Metropole in the evening .

ON Tuesday ovening , the 9 th ult ., over a hundred members of the Craft , including some twenty Past Master . " , assembled in the MnBonicTemple , Johannesburg , For tbe purpose of taking part in tho ceremony of installation of the R . W . M . of tbe Athole Lodge , working under the Constitution of Scotland , and tho investiture of officers for tho ensuing year . The ohoice of the Lodge had fallen on Bro . R .

Dold S . W ., a worthy Mason , who takes a great interest in the Craft generally aud his own Lodga in particular . Tho Lodgo having been opened by the retiring R . W . M ., Bro . Child * , the W . M . ' p , Officers , and Brothren of tbo Cosmopolitan , Richard Giddy , Charles Warren , Union , Peace and Harmony , and Honry B . Loch Lodges were admitted

in due form and ceremony , aftor which Bro . Chikls handed tho jewel to Bro . J . Lawrence P . M ., and that Brother then proceeded with the ceremony of installation . The Lodge having beon closed to the first degree , the Installing Officer , assisted by Bro . Childs the I . P . M ., then invested tho following brethren as Officers of the Lodge for the

Isaacs and Co ., who aie known all over South Africa a 3 leaders iu the furniture trade , lave jast made an important addition to their already extensive business premises . They havo purchased the Masonio Hotel Property , for the sum of £ 11 , 000 . Messrs . Isaacs and Co . will extend their premises before lonj , ' . In the meanwhile , the hotel i 3 still carried on by the executors of the late Mr . R . AVhite .
