A VERY impressive ceremony took place on Thursday of last week , at tho Mnsonic Hall , Grimsby , when the W . M .-elect Bro . Benj . Coulbeck P . G . Steward S . W . was Installed to the chair for the ensuing year . The ceremony of Installation was carried

out by Bro . J . B . Morton P . M . P . P . G . Swd . B ., assisted by Brother J . Waldram P . M . P . P . G . Swd . B . and Treasurer , in the presence of a large number of Past Masters , Brethren and Visitors from other Lodges .

The Brethren afterwards adjourned to the Yarborough Hotel , whero a banquet was held . After the Loyal toasts camo that of the I . P . M . of Pelham Pillar Lodge , Bro . Frank Barrett P . G . Assistant Secretary , which was proposed by the W . M ., and much could be said of the cool ,

calm , and heartfelt words ho expressed , with feelings of affectionate admiration , of the manner in which tho office had been so ably conducted during the past session ; and in response it was with mingled feelings of affection that the I . P . M . Bro . Barrett spoke of the valuable assistance his Officers had rendered him during his year of office . o o o

LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 581 . A REGULAR meeting of this popular Lodge was held at the Old Boar's Head , Withy Grove , Manchester , on Tuesday , the 30 th ult ., Bro . Jas . W . Abbott P . M . P . P . G . D . C Preceptor . The summons had announced the time as 7 " 30 , and there being a good attendance at that hour , a prompt start was made , the first and second ceremonies being rehearsed .

In the first instance , Bro . Geo . Wenham Davies S . W . W . M .-elect Ashbury Lodge , No . 1459 , occupied the principal chair , being supported by Bros . Edward Entwistle acting S . W ., R . Alfred Hepworth J . W ., J . Townley Trotter S . D ., Thos . Hamnett J . D ., and Chas . Adshead I . G .

Bro . Chas . Slee consented to act as candidate , and Bro . Davies , who attempted the ceremony of Initiation for the first time , made a very creditable performance . The Working Tools were presented and explained by the acting S . W . Before the Lodge was closed in this degree , Bro . H . J . Harrison , who had expressed a desire to act as candidate for the passing , had the usual questions put to him by Bro . Davies acting W . M . and

after being duly entrusted , retired . Bro . Davies then vacated the chair , and it was assumed by Bro . G . T . Lenard Treasurer , who opened in the second degree , and the candidate having been announced , the ceremony of Passing was proceeded with , Brother Lenard being supported by those Officers who had acted during the first ceremony . The Working Tools of this degree were presented and explained by Bro . Hepworth .

There were two propositions , the names of Brothers J . Grime , Integrity , 163 , and Geo . H . Russell , Duchess of York , 2482 , being submitted as probable Joining Members . The Lodge was closed in peace and harmony by Bro . Harrison , a little after 9 p . m .

Besides those already named , there were present : —Bros . Alfred Hebden P . M . P . P . G . D . D . C . Secy ., A . Phillips , Edward Loebell , Walter Marshall , Robert Lingaid , A . Ashworth , J . o o o LOYAL BERKSHIRE LODGE OF HOPE , No . 574 . THE Brethren assembled on the 2 nd inst ., at the Temperance Hall , Newbury , under the presidency of the Worshipful Master Bro . J . Napoleon Day . Several residents in the town and neighbourhood , who had been

proposed as members , were balloted for , and at the conclusion of tbe business an interesting lecture on the antiquity of Freemasonry was delivered by Bro . the Rev . W . M . Hope , curate of Newbury Parish Church , and Grand Chaplain for the Province of Oxfordshire . o o o

TRUE LOVE AND UNITY LODGE , No . 248 . THE regular monthly meeting was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Brixham , on Monday , 15 th ult . After the ordinary business had been disposed of , Bro . W . J .

Bradden W . M ., on behalf of Bro . G . T . Barry P . M . P . P . G . P . and P . Z ., begged the acceptance by the Lodge of a life size portrait of the latter , in a massive gilt frame . Bro . W . C . Gregory P . M . Treas ., in moving that the picture be accepted , and that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Brother Barry for his generous gift to the Lodge , said that as next

Past Master in seniority to Bro . Barry in that Lodge , he was pleased to add his testimony to the sterling worth of Bro . Barry as a Mason , and the oldest Past Master of that Lodge . For forty years he had been most assiduous in his labours for the Craft in general , and of that Lodge in particular .

Bro . T . W . Atherton P . M ., in seconding , said that as a Mason he had known Bro . Barry twenty-five years and he was seldom , if ever , absent from any of the meetings of the Lodge . He , too , was pleased to add his testimony to the value of Bro . Barry as a Past Master of the Lodge .

Bro . C Janes P . M . P . P . G . A . S . in supporting , trusted that Bro . Barry would be long spared to give them his presence and valued counsel . The motion was then carried with acclamation , and Brother Barry having thanked the Brethren for their kind remarks and the acceptance of the portrait , it was decided to place it side by side with that of the late Samuel B . Colestono P . M . P . Prov . G . S . of Works .

A REGULAR meeting was hold at the Freemasons' Hall , Yx . Manchester , ou Wednesday , the 31 st ult . There was an attendance of about forty members ami Visitors , amongst the latter being Bros . Robt . Fox W . M . 2412 , F . Baxter W . M . 2368 , H . Powell Jones P . G . Std . B . 1957 , W . Dyson Fryer P . M . 1375 , H . Sharp 54 , T . J . Parker 688 , 3 . J . Gissing 1056 , J . H . Greenwood 2387 .

The principal business was tlio raising of Bro . Alfred Cresswell , the ceremony being performed by Bro . J . M . H . Blarney W . M ., assisted by Bro . Wildgoose P . M . P . P . J . G . D , the latter presenting and explaining the Working Tools , and also delivering the Traditional History ; the work of both Officers being done in a manner which fully sustained the credit of the Lodge for excellence of ceremonial .

At the festive board , Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , an opportunity being taken to wish " God speed " to the newlyraised Brother , who is leaving Manchester to tako up his residence in the metropolis . Bro . R . Alf . Hepworth S . W . proposed fche health of the W . M ., fco which Bro . Blarney said , in reply , that the Brethren , who had been so eulogistic in praise of his work , had done their best to upset him completely . It afforded him the

greatest possible pleasure to respond to the toast so ably put by the S . W . His own term of office had been a very pleasurable one , and he had always endeavoured to do his work in the besfc possible way . He had not had an opportunity of performing a Raising before , and from his heart he thanked the Brethren for the friendly feeling which they had expressed with regard to his first effort in that direction . He concluded by adding that apart from his business and home , Freemasonry was his chief thought .

ON Wednesday of lasfc week this Lodge held a very successful dinner at the Bunch of Grapes Tavern , Lime Street , about 40 members of the Craft sitting down to the excellent fare provided by Host Wort .

The chair was occupied during the evening by Brother W . Belchamber I . P . M . Preceptor , supported by the Treasurer of the Lodge , Bro . W . Wood , and Past Master Hart , whilst the vice-chair was ably filled by Bro . Pitt P . P . G . S . B . Surrey .

The usual Masonic toasts wero honoured , says the " City Press , " and a very enjoyable evening was spent . o o o

TPHE Installation was held afc Freemasons'Hall , on the 5 th mst ., I under the presidency of Bro . James Edward Hambleton Worshipful Master . Bro . Francis Henry Macklin was installed as Master by Bro . Hambleton , and after the appointment and investiture of the other Officers the Lodgo constituted itself a Vice President of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , for the

next festival of which the new Master offered himself as Steward . Bro . W . S . Penley ( " Charley ' s Aunt" ) volunteered himself Steward for the Boys School , and tho Lodge voted ten guineas to his

list . Tho Lodge , which was founded twenty-four years ago for the convenience of members of the dramatic and musical professions , has now , after liberally assisting many cases of distress , nearly £ 1 , 000 in its Benevolent fund . o o o

THE Installation meeting was held at the Cafe Royal , Regent Street , on Wednesday , the 10 th ult . There was a large gathering of members and distinguished Visitors present to witness the ceremony , among the latter being the Rev . R . J . Simpson , M . A ., P . G . Chap ., Ralph Gooding , M . D ., P . G . D ., and Dr . Lott P . G . Org . Brother Jacob Pickett , M . D ., was installed as Master for the

ensuing year . The Auditors—C . Luxmore Drew , M . B ., Barrister-at-Law , and W . Arbufchnofc Lane , M . S ., F . R . C . S . —brought up the statement of accounts , which showed a large balance in the hands of the Treasurer , £ 20 out ; of which was voted to Masonic Charity . The Lodge having been opened and the minutes confirmed was advanced to the third degree , when Bro . Rev . G . E . Gardner was raised , that ceremony being followed hy the initiation of Mr . Harry de Couves Matthews and Dr . Walter Rough ton . The way in which
