OSBORNE LODGE , No . 2169 . TH E Annual meeting was held on Thursday , 1 st inst ., at East Cowes . The choice of the Lodge had fallen upon Bro . G .

Groves , who is well-known and highly respected in East Cowes , he being a member of the Local Board and having dono excellent work in connection with various movements of a semi-public character . For some years past Bro . Groves has been a member of the Lodge , and has held various offices , the duties of which he has carried out with credit to himself and the whole of the fraternity . That being the case a goodly number of Brethren assembled to do honour to the occasion .

The usual Lodge business having been transacted the duties of Installing Master was undertaken by Bro . VV . H . Brading , who carried out the work most impressively and with great efficiency . In token of the Lodge ' s appreciation of the services rendered to the Lodge by the retiring W . M ., a handsome gold jewel was presented to Bro . Brading . In the evening the Installation banquet was held .

Bro . Brading I . P . M ., in eulogistic terms , proposed the health of the Worshipful Master Bro . Groves , for whom he wished a pleasant and successful year of office . The W . M ., in reply , said that was a red letter day with him , he having attained to the honour which had been his ambition ever since he became a Mason . The more he saw of the Craft the better he liked it . He would do his best for the Lodge , which he trusted would continue successful .

Bro . Wheeler proposed the Charities , which he said wore the bulwarks of Masonry . Not only were old and distressed Masons and Widows looked after , but their children were well cared for , fed , clothed , and educated as well as they would be in college . Locally there was an Institution which made grants for the education of the children of poor Masons , they remaining under the care of their parents .

While Bro . Wheeler was singing " Hard Times " a collection Was made for the Charities , which , with £ 2 17 s found in the Charity box , and £ 2 12 s contributed hy the Tyler , Bro . Young , from the discount on articles supplied to the Brethren , amounted to £ 9 .

Bro . G . Fellows S . W . 35 , in responding for the Charities , thanked the Brethren , and especially the Tyler , for their handsome contribution , which would enable the Lodge to obtain another vote in one of the Institutions . Much good had been done in the past , but more help was required to do all that was asked .

During the afternoon a P . M . ' s jewel was presented to Brother Brading , on behalf of the Lodge , by Bro . Rogers . o o o

o o o LODGE OF TRUTH , N 0 . 1458 . THE Regular meeting was held at the Wheat Sheaf Hotel , Manchester , on Saturday , the 3 rd inst ., Brother Hamlet L .

Burgess W . M . In the absence of Bro . Shepherd S . W ., on account of sickness at home , his chair was occupied by Brother Robert Cauldwell P . M . P . P . G . S . B ., while Bro . Buckley Carr P . M . acted as J . W ., so as to enable Bro . Worsley to preside at the organ .

The minutes of fche lasfc meeting having been read and confirmed , a successful ballot was taken for Brother Max Sachs , Merchant , Stockholm , who was desirous of becoming a Joining Member . Bro . Fred Hilton P . M . P . P . G . D . C . then assumed the chair , the

Lodge was advanced , and Bro . Sandiford was raised to the sublime degree by Bro . Hilton , who afterwards vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Carr , the latter raising Bro . Wbittaker to the degree of a Master Mason . In this instance the W . M . acted as J . W .

Bro . Burgess having again taken the chair , Bro . Alfred Hebden P . M . P . P . G . D . D . C presented the Working Tools , and delivered the Traditional History of the degree to both candidates . The election of Officers afterwards took place with the following

result : —Bro . Shepherd S . W . W . M ., Bro . Fred Hilton Treasurer , Bros . Herbert Hellewell , Leech , and Sidney R . Muller Auditors . The Secretary was instructed to forward the best wishes of the meeting to Bro . Vincent , the former Treasurer , with an expression of regret that other duties prevented his retention of the office .

The usual festive board followed , Loyal and Masonic toasts being honoured . In proposing the health of the newly-raised Brethren , the VV . M . said that Bro . Sandiford and Wbittaker had shown by their demeanour that they fully appreciated the solemnity of the ceremonies through which they had passed . No doubt the

very excellent manner in which the work had been performed had added an additional impressiveness which could not have been obtained hy mere slipshod utterance . The efforts of that day would be a credit to any Lodge throughout the length and breadth of the land .

Bro . Wbittaker said he had been very much impressed with the whole of the ceremonies through which he had passed , and in looking back did not regret the step he had taken . He had come amongst them upon the recommendation of the W . M . and Brother Shepherd , and although he was a stranger and had been taken in ,

felt it to be an honour to belong to a Freemason ' s Lodge . Bro . W . H . Worsley J . W . proposed the toast of the Visiting Brethren , saying that he welcomed them with that heartiness which was peculiar to the Truth Lodge . They were not very great

with regard to this element , but what they lacked in quantity was compensated for by quality . He gave a humorously characteristic description of those who had remained to participate in the hospitality of the festive board .

Bros . W . B . Russell W . M . 1219 P . P . G . D . D . C , W . J . Herring W . M . 815 , Robert Williams J . W . 1052 , T . W . Start P . M . 1052 , and Edward Roberts P . M . 1459 ( FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE ) responded , all paying a well-deserved compliment to Brothers Hilton , Carr , and Hebden for the manner in which the ceremonies had been performed .

Bro . Fred Hilton , in proposing fche health of tho W . M ., said the hearty manner in which the Brethren had received the announcement of Brother Burgess ' s name led him to consider that he had performed his duties satisfactorily and well . His reason for not

having taken his share of that day ' s work was because he had recently been so much engaged upon election matters , and it had been impossible to give that attention which was necessary . By previous experience of him , however , he was justified in saying that
