being present in the town of Lurgan at , the Masonic function when the foundation-stones of that Flail were laid . He had been so impressed on that occasion with their cordiality and hospitality that he had invited himself back , and he was so pleased with the reception accorded them that day that he

hoped to have the privilege of meeting , them again at no far future date . Bro . Crawly then proposed the health of Bro . Thomas Faloon 24 , Bro . james Malcolm 134 , and Bro . J . A . Thompson 151 , all of whom , he thought , deserved well the esteem of their Brethren . The sentiment . was heartily received .

Bro . Thomas Faloon regretted that the number of his Lodge—24—was so low down on the calendar on this occasion , for he would have preferred some other member to have spoken before him . However , he thanked Bro . . Crawly very warmly for the eloquent manner in which he had proT

posed the health of the members of the three Lodges . When invited to come down and assist in the dedication' ceremony the Officers of the Grand Lodge responded so heartily that

he felt the honour was on the other side . In Lurgan they had endeavoured to work together harmoniously for the benefit of the Order , and he thought they had in some measure succeeded in . doing it .

Bro . James Malcolm , D . L ., on behalf of 134 Lodge , returned most sincere thanks for the very hearty manner in which the Grand Officers , through Bro . Crawly , expressed their appreciation of their little hospitality . The return for it was very much greater , and he hoped that the result of

their meeting that day would be another impetus to the Brethren . It was gratifying'to , the members of the Craft in Lurgan , and it must be . to the architect also , that the building met with the approval of : the Officers of the Grand Lodge . The Hall would be a credit to the town . He then

paid a fitting tribute to the assistance rendered to the' Order by the Duke of Abercorn , whose . wise counsel and ready experience were so often required . . , They were all sorry that the Deputy Grand Master Sir James Creed Meredith-was

unable to be present , on account of illness , and they hoped he would soon be restored to-perfect health . Bro . J . A . Thompson , for the members of Lodge 151 , in a few well-chosen words returned thanks , and the proceedings then terminated .

. r n Bro . Sheriff . Joseph Lawrence , the well-known'Chairman of the Linotype Company , was born in . 1848 , oh the shores of the Mediterranean , and was educated at Owens College , Manchester . lie is a son of the late Mr . Philip Lawrence , of

Liverpool , and began his business career under Sir Edward W . VVatkin , Bart . For . twenty years he . devoted close attention to engineering pursuits , and in addition to-his position as head of the Linotype Company he is closely connected with the Manchester Ship Canal , of which he was

one of the founders . Amongst his other business connections we may mention that he is the Chairman of the Machinery Trust , Limited , the Chairman of the . Edison Ore Milling Syndicate , and a Director of the British Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company , Limited- In 1897 a service of

plate , valued at over ^" 2 , 000 ^ was presented to him b y a number of proprietors , managers , and leading members of the staff of several newspapers , in recognition of the benefits that had been effected by the Linotype to the newspapers of the world . He belongs to the Association of

Lancastrians in London , has been a Freemason for over twenty years , and was one- of the co-founders , with the late Lord Lathom , of the Lancastrian Lodge in London , whilst he also attends the Quarterly Meetings of the Catefham Lodge , lie is a County Councillor for Surrey , and Chairman

( co-opted ) of the Coulsdon Parish Council . Further , he is a Volunteer Officer , having served as Captain of the 40 th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers for five years . For years he has been closely identified with charitable enterprise . He is a member of the Loriners' Company , the Coachmakers '

Company , and the Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers' Company . He was married about twenty-eight years ago , and has one daughter , who is married to Mr . Arthur Hungerford Pollen , M . A ., barrister-at-law . Bro . Sheriff Lawrence will be supported in his duties by his . wife . — " Citizen . "

» At the banquet following the first meeting of the session of the Mornington Lodge , No . 1672 , held last week , at the Holborn Viaduct Hotel , the W . M ., on behalf of the Lodge , made , a presentation of ; a massive silver tray to Brother J .

Perkins P . M ., to mark a double event—his marriage in June and his retirement from the Secretaryship after fourteen years service , on account of failing- eyesight , to rectify which he is about to undergo an operation . - Bro . Perkins warmly thanked the Brethren for this mark of their esteem , and of their appreciation of his long service .

The ninth service ( annual ) for Freemasons of the Three Towns and neighbourhood will be-held at St . Paul's Church , Morice Town , to-morrow , Sunday , nth inst , at 3 . 30 p . m .

The Rev . T . C . Lewis Past Prov . G . Chap , will preach , and a collection will be 'taken in aid of the funds of the Royal Albert Hospital . -It is hoped the' Brethren of the varidus local Lodg ' es will attend arid generously aid this excellent Institution .
