The first regular meeting of this Le Ige was held on Thursday , the 9 th inst ., under very excellent auspices , two joining members being balloted for , aud three ceremonies of initiation being

performed , of whioh we shall give a report in a fatere issue . There was a very good attendance of members of the Lt Iga , and ot-visitors , amongst tho latter being Bros . Pei >'•: P id Abbott Prov ' ucial Grand Officers .

Stone , as a candidate for initiation at fche installation meeting in March . Apologies were tendered from Bros C . W . PeMrs P . M . Secretary and Bowles I . G . for non-attendance . The business of tbe Lodge ended , the brethren adjourned to an

excellent supper , after whioh the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were ably given and received , BI also that of the Pro Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and the rest of the Grrnd Officers Present and Past . Brother Ellson gave the toast of **' io Worshipful Muster with very great pleasure , and in that oht'u * for the last time . He had conduced the busine- * s of the Lodge with y . been read aud confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Messrs . Henry Guyon Appleyard , Victor Lyon Samuel , and George Lewis Manning , and they were initiated by the W . M . in an excellent style . Brother Handcock was then passed , and the following brethren raised : —Bros . Anderson , Pink , Fred Harvey , Carey , J . L . Harvey ,

and Napoli . On the motion of Brother Warner it was unanimously resolved that 20 guineas be taken from the Lodge funds and placed on the list of the W . M . aa Steward for the Boys' School , for whioh the W . M . gave his best thanks , and remarked that if the brethren wonld make up the amount to £ 50 out of their own pockets , he wonld

himself give £ 50 , which wonld swell the amount to £ 100 . Ifc is pleasing to record thafc this amount ' waa immediately forthcoming . Ifc waa unanimously resolved to aend a letter of condolence to Bro . Palmer on the death of his wife . Tha Lodge waa then closed , aud the brethren partook of a superb banquet whioh waa prepared by Brother Cloots , in hia uiual perfect style .

DUKE OP CONNAUGHT LODGE , No . 1834 . AT the regular meeting of this Lodge , held on the 28 th ultimo , at Freemasons' Hall , Commercial Road , Landport , there was a very large attendance of brethren , invitations having been sent ont to the Worshipful Masters and Officers of every Lodge meeting in the neighbourhcod—some 16 in number , and altogether about 130 visiting brethren were present , including many Provincial Grand Officers . The Lodge having been opened , the minutes of the

installation meeting were read and confirmed . A Committee was appointed to revise the bye-lawa of the Lodge and to bring up a report . The W . M . Bro . Alexander Howell , who is the local Secretary in the Pruvinc J of Hampshire and the Iale of Wight of fche Quatuor Coronati Lodge Correspondence Circle , then delivered a most interesting lecture upon " The History of the Constitutions of the Fraternity , "

commencing with the Regius MS ., the oldest Masonio document extant . Extracts from the charges in thia ancient poem were read , aud the opinions of commentators npon its age and characteristics were quoted , wherein it is argue i that " the Old Charges or Mainscript Constitutions hr'l beiome fixed or crystallised before the Regius MS . took form as a writing , " and that it points to the

actual existence of a Symbolical or Speculate Masonry at the date from which ifc speaks . Several version of fcho Manuscri pt Constitutions were then referred to , and the charges contained in the " Graud Lodge , No . 1 MS . Roll , " of 1583 , were read at •length in order t •> show to the brethren fche nature of the regulations of the Craft at that early date . A sketch

of the History of Masonry or Legend of fche Guild , " as contained iu the several MS . Constitutions , was given , after which Brother Howell referred to the copy of the Old Chrrges in the handwriting of Randle Holme , the Chester Herald , made 1665 , in whioh the form of oath to be » Iminisfjred to candidates is given , and which " reveals the fact that the Masoric tokens of rei ignition were even

then of a complex nature . " The erection of the Grand Lt Ige in 1717 having been related , the first < lition of Dr . Anderson ' s Book of ConstitutorS came rider review , the unauthorised additions to the Legend of tho Grid being noted , aud the "Regulations" then for the first time necesspvy , in consequence of Lc Igea being subordinate to Grand Lodge , were consider ! J . The second edition of Anderson ' s

Constitutions was also referred to . The Constitutions of 1815 next claimed attention , aud several of the new Regulations were nentioned , and , finally , the editions of 1884 and 18 * . ' 1 were briefly referred tx The VV . M . exhibited the several volr-nea of R } prints of the OM Charges and of Anderson ' s Constitutions , which have been issued by

PORTSMOUTH TEMPERANCE LODGE , No . 2068 . ON Monday evening , the 27 th ultimo , Brother George Boyce waa instrUad as the Worshipful Master of this flourishing Lodge . The ' . remony wei carried out in a very impressive manner by Brother E . E . Fisher the retiring Worshipful Master , who waa presented clnring fche evening with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel in recognition c ? J- ' -j valuable and efficient services daring the year .

EASTERPORD LODGE , No . 2342 . ON Thr .. day , 2 nd inst ., there waa a full muater of the membera of this Lodge . and a number of distinguished visitors to witness the installation of Brother Captain Wefcherall as W . M . for tbe ensuing year . The regular meetings of the Lodge are held at

the Angel Hotel , Kelvedon , bnt by special dispensation from Lord Brooke Provincial Grand Master for Essex the ceremony took place in the Library at Felix Hall , the residence of Captain Wetherall . It waa hoped that Lord Brooke himself wonld hava been present , bat

installation meeting were read and confirmed . A Committee was appointed to revise the bye-lawa of the Lodge and to bring up a report . The W . M . Bro . Alexander Howell , who is the local Secretary in the Pruvinc J of Hampshire and the Iale of Wight of fche Quatuor Coronati Lodge Correspondence Circle , then delivered a most interesting lecture upon " The History of the Constitutions of the Fraternity , "

commencing with the Regius MS ., the oldest Masonio document extant . Extracts from the charges in thia ancient poem were read , aud the opinions of commentators npon its age and characteristics were quoted , wherein it is argue i that " the Old Charges or Mainscript Constitutions hr'l beiome fixed or crystallised before the Regius MS . took form as a writing , " and that it points to the

actual existence of a Symbolical or Speculate Masonry at the date from which ifc speaks . Several version of fcho Manuscri pt Constitutions were then referred to , and the charges contained in the " Graud Lodge , No . 1 MS . Roll , " of 1583 , were read at •length in order t •> show to the brethren fche nature of the regulations of the Craft at that early date . A sketch

of the History of Masonry or Legend of fche Guild , " as contained iu the several MS . Constitutions , was given , after which Brother Howell referred to the copy of the Old Chrrges in the handwriting of Randle Holme , the Chester Herald , made 1665 , in whioh the form of oath to be » Iminisfjred to candidates is given , and which " reveals the fact that the Masoric tokens of rei ignition were even

then of a complex nature . " The erection of the Grand Lt Ige in 1717 having been related , the first < lition of Dr . Anderson ' s Book of ConstitutorS came rider review , the unauthorised additions to the Legend of tho Grid being noted , aud the "Regulations" then for the first time necesspvy , in consequence of Lc Igea being subordinate to Grand Lodge , were consider ! J . The second edition of Anderson ' s

Constitutions was also referred to . The Constitutions of 1815 next claimed attention , aud several of the new Regulations were nentioned , and , finally , the editions of 1884 and 18 * . ' 1 were briefly referred tx The VV . M . exhibited the several volr-nea of R } prints of the OM Charges and of Anderson ' s Constitutions , which have been issued by

the Quatuor Coronati Li Ige . A discussion followed , in which severr' of fche visiting brethren i : ok part , and a heprty vote of thanks having been tccorded t ) tho W . M . for hia lecture , the Lodge waa clc led . As a memento of his installation , Bro . Alexander Howell 1 " ) 3 presented each mem ! ir of fie Lclge with a copy of Crowe ' a " Master Masons' Handbook . "

PORTSMOUTH TEMPERANCE LODGE , No . 2068 . ON Monday evening , the 27 th ultimo , Brother George Boyce waa instrUad as the Worshipful Master of this flourishing Lodge . The ' . remony wei carried out in a very impressive manner by Brother E . E . Fisher the retiring Worshipful Master , who waa presented clnring fche evening with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel in recognition c ? J- ' -j valuable and efficient services daring the year .

EASTERPORD LODGE , No . 2342 . ON Thr .. day , 2 nd inst ., there waa a full muater of the membera of this Lodge . and a number of distinguished visitors to witness the installation of Brother Captain Wefcherall as W . M . for tbe ensuing year . The regular meetings of the Lodge are held at

the Angel Hotel , Kelvedon , bnt by special dispensation from Lord Brooke Provincial Grand Master for Essex the ceremony took place in the Library at Felix Hall , the residence of Captain Wetherall . It waa hoped that Lord Brooke himself wonld hava been present , bat
