ENTERTAINMENT IN AID OP THE MASONIC CHARITIES .

THE Minnehaha Amateur Minstrels entertainment at the Albert Hall , Bolton , on Wednesday , 1 st inst ., was , from whatever standpoint it is looked at , an unqualified success . The hall never perhaps looked more brilliant , owing to the presence of the crowded and fashionable audience , aud as the entertainment ; was inaugurated by the local Lodge ? , and many of the brethren appeared in the

clothing appartaining to thoir degrees , tho appearance of the hall was unique and gay . The reputation of tho Minnehaha Minstrels has reached most of the Lancashire towns , and their efforts in the cause of charity have been so successful that the visit of these talented amateurs was looked forward to with interest , but those who had not heard them were scarcely prepared for an

entertainment of such a high order . Numbering , with choir and orchestra , nearly eighty performers , fchey go through an entertainment of the minstrel type which is at once comic , sentimental , refined in ch & racter , ' and generally excellent all round . The minstrels are first-class vocalists and musicians—the item by the mandoline and guitar band was an especial feature—and the funniosifcies

perpetrated by the corner men , while never vulgar , kept tho audience in a titter of merriment . Of the sentimental items Mr . S . B . Ince with " Whisper and I shall hear , " Mr . L . Griffiths with "The old folks at home , " Mr . Scott with " Come back to me , " and Mr . E . Carter " Star of the Desert , " were particularly admired , whilst the comic element was supplied by Messrs . Mason— " The Whistling

Coon , " H . Davies " The hen flew over fche garden gate , " F . C . Smith " I burst out a laughing , " G . R . Ward " George , tell me if yon love me , " J . Allen " Piratical notions , " and Harry Hines " Skating Olympia . " The second part consisted of a step march , a stump oration by Mr . J . Allen , an eccentric song and dance by Messrs . J

Allen jun . and W . Naylor , and rapid sketches by J . S . Smith . The entertainment was heartily enjoyed from first to last , and in addition to the long list of charities benefited by these generous minstrels to the extent of nearly £ 8000 , the East Lancashire Systematic Educational and Benevolent Institution will be gainers by this entertainment by something over £ 100 .
