Cycling Masons.

CYCLING MASONS .

VTI / E refer below to a smoking concert . given last T ? week by the Liverpool Masonic Cycling Club , which now enjoys a membership of 115 , and which induces us to agam ask the question—more than once

propounded in our columns—how is it that London and other' large centres cannot boast a similar . organisation ? .. It seems to us that the association of

Freemasonry and Cycling should form a splendid nucleus on which to build a number of prosperous clubs in the metropolis and other , large towns of the

country , and we know several Brethren , patrons of the wheel , who share that opinion , and yet the Liverpool Club is the only one we hear of in active existence .

We' should be very pleased to take a ' part in establishing a Masonic Cycling Club for the northern parts of the metropolis , and should like to . hear from

Brethren in the district . willing to co-operate , or from others outside of it who " would undertake a like duty for their neighbourhood and , later on , we should like to arrange- for runs of a distinctly Masonic character .

It has long been areproach to Freemasonry that its members spend most of the time they devote-to Masonic meetings around the festive board at their Lodge quarters , but there have been many signs of

changes in this respect in recent years , and it seems to us Masonic Cycling runs might advantageously take their share with summer outings and pic-nics in

bringing members of the Craft more into the light of day , and at the same time afford them the means of offering a little pleasure to those not yet permitted to participate in the privileges of the Craft .

Bro . Bowers , F . R . H . S ., will lecture on " King Solomon ' s Temple , its builders and destroyers , " at the Israel Lodge of Instruction , the Rising Sun Tavern , Globe Road , Bethnal Green , E ., one Sunday evening in April . Brethren should pay an early visit to the Lodge , to ensure an invitation .

The Fifteen Sections will be worked in the Guelph Lodge of Instruction , No . 1685 , at the Plough and Harrow , Leytonstone Road , E ., on Wednesday , 22 nd inst ., commencing at 7 p . m . Bro . James Oxley P . M . 1306 will preside , and will be supported by some of the best known Section workers of the day .

For a long series of years the Brethren of the Hamer Lodge , No . 1393 , have annually had a reunion and ball , and that for the current season , held in the Liverpool Assembly Rooms , Hardman Street , on Wednesday , 22 nd ult ., was in every respect as enjoyable and successful as the best of its

predecessors . A capital programme of dance music had been arranged , and in the intervals songs were contributed by Bro . H . Fairfield , Mr . A . Hampson , and Miss Elmslie . Bro . J . Pilling P . M . P . P . G . St . B ., and Bro . F . E . Marshall were the

M . Cs ., and the various arrangements were in the hands of a Committee , of which Bro . A . E . M'Dougall W . M . was Chairman , Bro . N . Christensen P . M . Treasurer , and Bro . F . Minshull Secretary .
