( Late Terriers Lodge . ) /^ 1 RAND Lodge having requested that the name of The Terriers should be \ JT discontinued in connection with this Lodge , as two Lodges under different names may not be held under the same Warrant , it will in future be known under the above title , meeting as usual every Wednesday , at 3 p . m ., at the Dover Castle Hotel , Westminster Bridge Road , and will continue to be under the able Preceptorship of Bro . A . Darch P . M .

At the meeting on Wednesdav there were present Bros . F . Holden Treas . as W . M ., B . Cohen S . W . F . Holmes J . W ., A . Darch P . M . Prec , E . Sinclair P . M . Sec , C . Riley S . D ., C . Randall J . D ., E . Almaio I . G ., A . Nelson , T . Holland W . M . 720 , J . Wynman , and others .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Nelson candidate , and that Brother subsequently answered the questions leadiDg to the second degree . Bro . Darch worked the second section of the lecture . The W . M . and J . W . now changed places , and Bro . Holmes rehearsed the second ceremony , with Bro . Holland W . M . 720 as the candidate .

The W . M . resumed his chair , Bro . A . Nelson was elected a member , and Bro . B . Cohen ' chosen to preside at the next meeting , on Wednesday .

Neville P . M . acting Prec , R . W . Nicholls W . M . 2593 Treas ., Henry Thos . Kobelt Sec , J . W . Whipps S . D ... F . Aries J . D ., G . Sutton I . G ., J . Mayhew , H . Ramsbottom , J . The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Ramsbottom acting as candidate . Bro . Kobelt answered the questions leading to the second degree , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Bro . H . B . Neville P . M . acting Preceptor congratulated Bro . Nicholls W . M . of the Mother Lodge on the large amount he had secured for the Centenary Festival of the Boys School , and heartily complimented him on the result of tho efforts he had made .

Bro . Nicholls sincerely thanked Bro . Neville for his congratulations and compliments , and also most heartily thanked the Brethren for their liberal support . He was happy to say that since the foundation of the Lodge , and it was only three years old , the Hugh Owen had presented to the Masonio Institutions the sum of £ 620 , which announcement was received with acclamation . .

Bro . Nicholls proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes for the excellent manner in which Bro . Neville had acted as Preceptor that evening , and complimented him for the able assistance he had rendered to the Brethren , which proposition was seconded , supported , and unanimously agreed to .

Bro . Neville acknowledged the compliment in a neat speech , saying it did not deserve to be recorded on the minutes . What he had done was the duty of every Past Master , who should give all the assistance that was required . Bro . J . W . Hunt S . W . of the Mother Lodge was elected W . M . for the next meeting , and we wish him a full attendance .

PROVINCIAL .

LODGE OF INDUSTRY , No . 48 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , Gateshead , on Monday , 23 rd ult ., Bro . Holzappel Worshipful Master . It is with pleasure we record a very important function in connection with the business of the evening , namely , the presentation to the Lodge of a portrait in oils , the subject of the painting being Bro . Joshua Curry , T \ ler .

The presentation was intended , as a mark of recognition on account of long and valued services in the cause of Freemasonry , which extended to a period of thirty-five years . The very admirable portrait , a gift of one of the Past Masters of the Lodge , received many favourable comments from those present , and was the work of Bro . William Irving , an artist of considerable merit and distinction in this especial line .

The W . M . proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the donor , and expressed a wish , which received general concurrence and approbation , that Bro . Curry might long continue to discharge his important duties to the Lodge . Bro . W . Brown P . M . seconded the vote of thanks , and also added a few appropriate words in praise of Bro . Curry .

A proposition was made which received unanimous support , that a suitable inscription should be added , so that tho memory of one of the most popular Tylers in the county might be held in kindly remembrance by all the Brethren connected with the Craft , who were familiar with the subject of the portrait .

AMITY LODGE , No . 137 . A VERY interesting ceremony took place in connection with this Lodge , on Wednesday , 1 st inst ., when a celebration was held on the occasion of the initiation of the 500 th candidate , in the person of the Hon . F . J . N . Thesiger , son of Lord Cbeimsford , and son-in-law of Lord Wimborne . The ceremony was impressively performed in the Lodge Room , Market Street , Poole , by Bro . Herbert Saunders W . M ., who was assisted by Bro . J . H . Whadcoat I . P . M ., F . P . Oakley S . W ., F . A . Sharp Chaplain , C . J . Woodford Secretary , and Rev . W . M . Heath .

There was a large number of members present at the ceremony , and ¦ visiting Brethren from the Province of Dorset and other Lodges in Bournemouth and neighbourhood . After the ceremony the Brethren adjourned to the Guildhall for the banquet , a recherche repast being served by Bro . G . W . Green .

The toast of the Worshipful Master was proposed by Bro . J . H . Whadcoat , and responded to by Bro . H . Saunders . The health of the newly initiated candidate , the 500 th , was given in

appropriate terms by Bro . Dugdale , who congratulated the Lodgo on the member they had that afternoon admitted , and on behalf of the Lodge expressed the pleasure they felt in welcoming him amongst them . Bro . Hon . F . J . N . Thesiger responded , thanking the Brethren for the cordial and gratifying way he had been received . As the members of Amity had extended to him the right hand of friendship , and thereby met him half way , it should be his endeavour to cement the friendship between them by close attention to the duties required of him .

The Visitors , proposed by Bro . C . J . Woodford , was responded to by Bro . Pitt Lewis , the Recorder , who observed he had in the morning the pleasant duty of receiving from the bands of the Sheriff another pair of white gloves . He esteemed it especially fortunate that his duty brought him there on that day , so that he was enabled to accept the invitation for this auspicious occasion . He congratulated the Lodge on the Brother who had joined , and the W . M . and Officers on the admirable way the ceremony had been conducted .

Bro . F . Griffin , in a few words , expressed the pleasure it gave him to be present , and Bro . David Sydenham , of Bournemouth , said it was within a few months of the fiftieth year since he was initiated in Lodgo Amity . Amongst other toasts were the Masonic Charities , proposed by Bro . Oakley S-W , and responded to by Bro . Diigdale for the three great Charities , and by Bro . C . J . Woodford for the Dorset Masonic Society .

The proceedings were interspersed with songs , given by Bros . Robertson , Palk , Thesiger , Collins , Robinson , Budge , Vye , and Thresh . Bro . White presided at the piano .

NEPTUNE LODGE , No . 1264 . i P 1 HE installation meeting was held on the 6 th inst ., in the Masonic Hall , _ 1 _ Liverpool , and was attended by about sixty members and visitors . Bro . Henry D . Jay was duly installed as W . M . for the ensuing year , the ceremony being efficiently performed by Bro . G . Barclay W . M . At the close of the Lodge the Brethren dined together , and a capital programme of music enlivened the proceedings .

PRUDENCE LODGE , No . 1550 . THE Brethren met on Saturday , 4 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Elymouth , to elect the Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . In the absence of the W . M . Bro . S . G . Edwards , Bro . T . W . Griffiths I . P . M . presided over a good attendance .

The S . W . Bro . W . Pryor was unanimously elected Master , and in returning thanks promised to do his utmost to deserve the confidence which the Brethren had reposed in him . He recognised the great value and importance of the support of the Past Masters , and was assured that their sympathy , as well as that of the Brethren , would be extended him in the carrying out of his duties .

Brother C . Philp P . P . D . D . C . was unanimously re-appointed Treasurer , whilst Bro . J . G . Kevern P . P . G . D . C . was again elected to represent No . 1550 on the Committee of Petitions . Bro . Charles Mutten was re-appointed Charity Steward , and was also nominated as the representative of the Lodge on the Committee of the Devon Masonic Educational Fund . Bro . W . H . Phillips was again elected Tyler .

A letter of sympathy is to be forwarded to the -widow of Bro . F . Batchelor , the late Club Steward .

ASHBURTON LODGE , No . 2189 . ON Thursday , 2 nd inst ., at Ashburton , Bro . C . 3 . Jeffery was installed W . M . by Bro . Hallett P . P . S . G . D . He was subsequently chosen to represent the Lodge on the Committee of Petitions of the Province , and afterwards presided at the annual banquet .

• QUEEN VICTORIA LODGE , No . 2655 . IN May last the members unanimously agreed that a handsome Past Master ' s jewel should be presented to Bro . Shanks the first W . M . of the Lodge , as a mark of the appreciation of the great services rendered by him , and of the excellent way in which he had worked the different degrees during his year of office ; but as Bro . Shanks had already been fortunate enough to receive two such marks of approval from other Lodges , and as he

preferred that the presentation should take the form of helping some charity , the Brethren changed their intention and expressed their good feeling by giving Bro . Shanks a Life Governorship in the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , for his daughter , who is already a Vice-Patron of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , and a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

The presention took place at tho meeting of the Lodge on the 1 st inst ., when a Jaigo number of members and visitors were present . Bro . Fage W . M ., in a very appropriate speech , offered the gift in the name of the Lodge . Bro . Shanks , in a few well-chosen sentences , heartily thanked the Brethren for their great kindness , and expressed the hope that the Lodge would continue to prosper , as it certainly had done during its first year of existence .

DUNDAS CHAPTER , No . 1255 . A CONVOCATION was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Princess Square , Plymouth , on Thursday , 2 nd inst ., when the Principals were installed , and the Officers for the ensuing year were invested . The ceremony of installation was very impressively performed . Comp . Geo . Hooper was installed Z ., L . Wells H ., and 0 . P . Potts J .

THE Directors of Spiers and Pond Limited notify that the transfer books will be closed from the 14 th inst . to tho 30 th inst ., both inclusive , for the purpose of preparing the interest warrants , on the 5 per cent . First Mortgage Debentures , the 5 per cent . " A " Mortgage Debenture Stock , and the 5 per cent . " B " Debenture Stock , and the 4 per cent . " C '' Debenture Stock of tho Company . The warrants will bo posted on the evening of the 30 th instant .
