A sum not oxceeding five pouuds was voted to tho Industry Chapter , No . 361 , Hyde , towards the expenses of the meeting . Pursuant to notice of motion , Comp . Herbert Finch moved that a sum of twenty guineas bo voted to tho newly

established local Charity—tbe Cheshire Masonic Benevolent Institution , and that it bo apportioned by ballot in two sums of ten guineas each amongst tho Chapters of the Province who were in good standiug , to qualify the M . E . Z .

as Life Governor in perpetuity . This was seconded by Comp . Fenlow and carried unanimously . The ballot for the two Chapters was thereupon taken , and the Warren Chapter , No . 533 , Congleton , and the Grosvenor Chapter , No . 721 , Chester , were the " prize-takers . "

All business being ended , the Provincial Grand Officers retired , and the Chapter was closed by tho Officers of the local Chapter , No . 361 .

The Companions afterwards dined at the Norfolk V . rms Hotel , under tho presidency of Companion Salmoi , and afterwards of Lieut .-Col . Ferneiey the newly appointed Prov . G . H .

rpHE annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter ¦ *• was held in the room of the Holy Mount Chapter , No . 121 , Penzance , on Monday , the 6 th inst ., the Right Hon . Lord Mount Edgcumbe Prov . G . Superintendent presiding . The Chapter was constituted in the Alverne Hall , which

presented a beautiful appearance , the banners and emblems of the Order being brightened by charming shrubs and plants , kindly lent by Comps . Major Ross and Percy Chirgwin .

The Prov . G . Superintendent ( Earl of Mount Edgcumbe ) was attended by a large number of his Officers . The roll of the Chapters was called , and all those working in the Province were represented .

A grant of ten guineas each was made to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys and Girls respectively . The Prov . G . Superintendent invested his Officers for the

THE annual Grand Chapter was held at the Town Hall , Wells , under the banner of the Avelon Chapter , No . 446 , wben there was a large gathering of Companions . The handsome Council Chamber was arranged with taste , and evoked great praise from the visitors . The Chapter

was opened shortly before two o ' clock by the Grand Superintendent Comp . R . C . Else P . G . Standard Bearer England , Comp . W . Long P . G . H ., and Comp . E . Wbite P . G . J . Tho roll of the Chapters was called by the Scribo

E . ( Comp . E . Noke ) , and all , with one exception , were represented . The rainutes of the last Provincial Grand Chapter was read and approved , and the Treasurer ' s accounts , showing a substantial balance in hand , were

passed . It was decided to invest £ 100 in suitable and approved securities in the names of the three Principals and the Treasurer . Comp . B . IT . Watts was re-elected

Treasurer with acclamation , and the Officers wero appointed and invested . Comp . Haddon , on behalf of Comp . T . Meyler , who was unavoidably absent , proposed , after duo notice , " that a sum of ton pounds be granted from the

funds of Provincial Grand Chapter to the widow of a late Companion . " After discussion , the motion was withdrawn , and the matter left to the threo Principals and the Treasurer to deal with as thoy considered expedient . This concluding the business on the agenda , alms were collected

and amounted to £ 1 16 s , which were voted to the Wells Nursing Institution , and handed to Comp . Crosse . The Chapter was then closed in accordance with ancient custom , and the Companions subsequently sat down to a dinner at the Swan Hotel , under tho presidency of the Z . of tho Avelon Chapter , Comp . H . B . Crouch .

ROYAL PAVILION CHAPTER , No . 315 . f PHE annual meeting was held at Brighton , on tho 17 th ultimo . JL Comp . E . T . Cookey was installed M . E . Z ., the other Principal installed being Compa . John Wood H . and James Terry J . On the dosing of the Chapter the Companions sat down to a banquet , tho visitors including Companion General Randolph Provincial Grand Snperintendent .

INKERMAN CHAPTER , No . 1222 . t . THE annnal meeting was held at the Masonio Hall , Weston . snper-Mare , when Comp . F . W . S . Wiokstead P . Z . was installed in the ohair of First Principal , Comp . S . J . Sellick Second , and J . P . Capoll Third . Tho ceremony was ably performed by Comp . R . C . The half-yearly meeting of tho Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire will be held in the Free Trade Hall Assembly Rooms , Peter Street , Manchester , on Friday , 24 th inst ., at half-past two o ' clock .

" The other day , writes our Manchester representative , " I came across the September nnmber of the South Australian Freemason , and in glancing over Lodge news , saw the name of Bro . R . K . Threlfall , who is acting in

the capacity of Treasurer to the United Tradesmen s Lodge , No . 4 , Adelaide . I had the pleasure of meeting Bro . Threlfall about twelve months ago at the Albert Victor Lodge , No . 1773 , Pendleton , where his respected brother

is now Worshipful Master , and I was very much impressed at the time with the very excellent remarks he uttered , and the amount of information he tendered with

regard to work in the Antipodes . If the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE should reach Bro . Threlfall , will he accept fraternal greetings from one who wishes him well ?"

Bro . Ed' / ard Torry made bis reappearance in London , after his Australian tour , on Monday evening , before a crowded andience at the Elephant and Castle theatre , in Mr . A . W . Pinero's play " Sweet Lavendsr . "

The Dor 3 and Chinloy line of tho Midland Railway , constructed at a co 3 t of i early a million etorling , was opened for goods traffic on Monday . It is 20 miles long , and has the second longest tunnel in the kingdi rn . The Midland jonrney to Manchester will be shortened by 20 mies by this new route . Passenger traffic will commence next spring .
