Cycle Exhibition.

CYCLE EXHIBITION .

AT the forthcoming Stanley Show , at the Agricultural Hall , London , the Lozier Manufacturing Company will show , at Stand No . 141 , their famous Cleveland Cycles in three grades , the prices of which will be ten , twelve and fifteen guineas . The success of the firm ' s ten guinea machines during the past season will undoubtedly extend to their 1900 models at that price . These bicycles are constructed from best quality material , and the finish leaves nothing to be desired . The facilities for producing in large quantities makes it possible for the Company to supply such a high grade article at so moderate a price .

The twelve guinea models will undoubtedly excite much admiration . They comprise several important improvements in construction over the cheaper machines , notably in the bottom bracket , the self oiling bearings , cone locking device , & c . The fifteen guinea cycles are the Lozier Company's leading line , and will include the new Cleveland ball and roller bearing , which tests have shown can he run at the rate of 35 , 000 revolutions per minute , against 15 , 000

in the best of the ordinary style bearing . A small roller placed between each ball obviates the reverse friction resulting from balls being in contact with each other , when , although the balls are travelling in the same general direction , yet at the point of contact each ball is revolving in an opposite direction to its neighbour . A very important feature of these machines is the new Cleveland gear case . It is quite the exception to see a well fitted gear

case which is at the same time dustproof and noiseless . The Cleveland gear case combines these three points , and is without doubt the finest case yet introduced , and should prove one of the most important features of the Show . In addition to specimens of each of the above machines , the firm will also exhibit a racing cycle which will be of of interest to all speed men , and a combination lady ' s and gent's tandem .

"A SPRIG OF ACACIA . "

IT is our melancholy duty to record the death , in his fiftyfifth year , of Brother Councillor Moses W . Southern , which occurred at his residence , Quay Street , Manchester , on Saturday , 28 th ult . Bro . Southern , who was a member of the Manchester City Council , and also a valued subscriber

to this journal , had been in delicate health for a considerable length of time . He was a Liberal in politics , and his second term of office as a Councillor had expired . He was , however , again a candidate for municipal honours , and had entered into the thick of a fight , being opposed by a

Conservative . In consequence of Bro . Southern's death the Lord Mayor announced on Monday , 30 th ult ., to the parties concerned , that he had been advised that it would be necessary to countermand the election , and that application would have to be made to the High Court to fix a date for a

fresh election for St . John ' s Ward . Bro . Southern was a younger brother of Alderman James W . Southern , and had travelled a great deal in his time . The funeral took place at

the Manchester Crematorium on Tuesday , 31 st , amongst those present being the members of the Baths , Parks , and Rivers Committees of the Corporation , with which Bro . Southern was connected .

WE have also to announce the death of Brother Ralph Bolland , Concord Lodge , No . 1534 , for more than ten years District Passenger Superintendent of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway . Just a week ago Bro . Bolland contracted a bad cold on the eve of his annual holiday .

Acute pneumonia supervened , and he died at his residence at Prestvvich , on Friday afternoon , 3 rd inst . The news of the sudden termination of his illness came as a painful shock to Bro . Bolland ' s colleagues and friends , by whom he was

greatly esteemed . Bro . Bolland had been connected with the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company since 1871 , and was chief clerk in the Passenger Superintendent ' s Department at the time of his promotion to the office he held at the time of his death .

A MID signs of deep respect and sympathy the mortal _ JL remains of Bro . John Cummings Ban well , aged seventyfour , were quietly laid to rest at the Nottingham General Cemetery on the 12 th ult . The deceased was for thirty-four years librarian at the Bromley House Library , and was the

oldest member of the Newstead Lodge , he having been connected with it for fifty-five years . The service was conducted in the cemetery chapel by the Lodge Chaplain Rev . E . A . Simms .
