After the minutes were read and confirmed , the ballot was taken on behalf of Messrs . Henry Treadwell , William Nice , Harry T . Davey . and Henry Alexr . Harvey , which proved unanimous . The chair was then taken by Bro . Forss , who performed the ceremony of raising Bros . 0 . W . Widdett , J . W . Swan , E . G . Stafford , and H . E . Turner . Needless to say the ritual was

conducted in a most admirable manner , Bro . Forss being the Preceptor of the Lodgo of Instruction . Bro . Walklin again resumed the ohair , when Bros . T . A . Frost , A . E . Brunton , L . Drake , H . J . Simmons and J . A . Merchant wero passed to the second degree . The chair was next occupied by Bro . Lygo , when Messrs . Treadwell , Nice , Davey , and Harvey were admitted , and regularly initiated into Freemasonry . This division of the work gave great satisfaction to the Lodge , and the interest of the Brethren was considerably increased thereby .

Bro . Edward Martin , of the Merchant Navy Lodge , No . 781 , was received as a joining member . The W . M . then entered the Lodge , and assumed the chair . Bro . Bonaldson proposed that the sum of ten guineas be voted from the funds of tho Lodge as a contribution to the Widows and Orphans ; but Bro .

Spencer Bowen S . W . moved as an amendment that twenty guineas be given . The stirring scenes in connection with the departure of the troops to the war , recently witnessed at Gravesend , had evidently aroused the patriotism of the Brethren , for the amendment was carried with acclamation , and after discussion it was decided to divide the amount between the Mansion House Fund and the local branch of the Sailors and Soldiers Families Association .

Bro . Wm . Hawker announced his intention of going up as a Steward at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and said in due time he would ask the Lodge to give him a donation . One candidate and one joining member were propos d for election at the next meeting , and there being no further business the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony .

The Brethren afterwards dined together , and a pleasant evening followed . After the dinner the Charity Box was passed round and a liberal contribution was collected . The usual toasts were proposed and acknowledged , and the festivities were concluded by a very hearty rendering of the National Anthem .

WALPOLE LODGE , No . 1500 . THE installation meeting took place at the . Masonic Club , 47 St . Giles ' s Street , Norwich , on Thursday evening , 2 nd inst ., Bro . A . F . Hardyment Prov . G . Steward W . M . Brondesbury Lodge , No . 2698 , J . W . 1489 , being placed in the chair of King Solomon for the ensuing year . The Prov . G . M . of Norfolk Bro . Hamon le Strange honoured the occasion by attending , and there was an exceptionally large number of visitors , many having journeyed from the London Lodges with which the W . M .-elect is connected .

Letters of apology for non-attendance included one from the D . Prov . G . M ; Sir Francis Boileau . There was a deal of business to transact before the installation took place , and Lodge was called for' 5 . 30 . The second degree having been worked , Bro . A . S . Wilde W . M . P . P . G . O . performed the principal function of the evening in a most able and impressive manner and himself was the recipient of a

handsome Past Master ' s jewel and illuminated address at the hands of the new W . M ., and which marked -the sense of the Lodge's appreciation of his conduct in tho chair during the twelvemonth , Bro . Hardyment speaking highly of his zealous work . The W . M . appointed and invested his Officers . A banquet and the usual speeches followed , the latter all breathing of

the very healthy condition of Freemasonry in general in the Province , and of the Walpole L _ ge in particular . The Prov . G . M . had a most hearty greeting in replying to the toast of his health , and he took occasion to refer in most feeling terms to the loss the Province had sustained in the death of Bro . Bridgman .

Bro . Stackard , F . Havers , and Campling were the replicants for Provincial Grand Lodge . In submitting the W . M ., the Prov . G . M . was very warm in his praise , and paid a well-deserved compliment to the Officers generally for their

excellent work in the Lodge . He mentioned that it was not often that a Lodge had to get a dispensation from Grand Lodge for a Master of another Lodgo to be installed in a similar capacity , as was the case with their W . M ., who presided over a London Lodge also . The W . M . was most warmly received and made an able response .

CONCORD LODGE , No . 1534 . THE annual meeting and Festival of St . John took place at Prestwich , on Thursday , 19 th ult ., Bro : Dr . F . Stephenson W . M . Bro . Jas . Kershaw S . W . Worshipful Master-elect was installed into the chair of K . S . by Bro . Stephenson , assisted by Past Masters of the Lodge .

The Festival of St . John was held at tho Liberal Club , adjoining the Lodge rooms . Loyal and Masonic toasts were pleasantly varied with songs , rendered by a specially selected choir . During the evening a handsome jewel was presented to the retiring Master , which bore thefollowing inscription :

minutes of the regular meeting held 7 th October having been read and confirmed the Lodge was opened in the second degree , when Bros . Wiggington and Steer being candidates to he raised to the degree of M . M . were interrogated , entrusted , and retired . The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and the ceremony completed . Bro . Coulson was duly passed to the degree of F . C .

The ballot having proved unanimous in his favour , Mr . Capel Lambe was initiated into the privileges and mysteries . The Lodge was called off , and the W . M . having arrived , the Officers and Brethren resumed their seats , and Bro . W . Langdon S . W . was presented by Bro . John Mason P . G . Std . Br . Director of 0 remonies to receive the benefit of installation , which was carried out with the customary formalities .

Tbe Brethren of the Lodge having saluted the newly-installed W . M . he appointed and invested his Officers , as follow : Bros . H . G . R . Dailey S . W ., A . E . Mason J . W ., E . W . The balance sheet and the report of the Audit Committee was presented , the statement showing a balance of £ 43 carried forward . The sum of £ 10 10 s was voted to Bro . A . J . Davis , who will represent the Lodge at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent In stitution . A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Tyler .

The Brethren retired for a short time , and at seven o ' clock sat down to one of the best banquets ever supplied by and under the personal superintendence of Bro . H . P . Harris the host . The toasts wero short , and in their brevity sweet .

Bro . Win . Fisher Asst . G . Purs . Eng . and P . G . Treasurer of the Province replied on behalf of the Grand Officers , and Bro . Terry P . G . Swd . Br . England , the well known and highly esteemed Secretary of the Benevolent Institution , who was described by Bro . Fisher as a " giant in oratory , " replied to the toast of the Masonic Institutions , in one of his characteristic speeches .

The Musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . W . T . Dillon P . M . Asst . G . D . O . Middx ., assisted by Miss Isabel Dillon his talented and charming daughter , who delighted the company both by her presence and excellent rendering of two songs , in one being accompanied by Bro . T . Z .

Choveaux Org . 1622 , & c . ; Mrs . G . Langdon junr ., who sang tbe National Anthem , and "Needles and Pins ; " Miss E . Dollie Langdon ( accompanist ) and the Kew Glee Singers ( Patron H . R . H . the Duke of Cambridge ) : Bro . R . J . Wood , Messrs . Fred Turner and Philip Barnham , whose rendering of the Grace "Laufli Spiritual ! " was particularly good . .

Bro . T . Z . Choveaux Org . 1622 very kindly presided at the Organ during the installation of Bro . Langdon . Bro . W . Langdon is also the I . P . M . and one of the Founders of the Rill Call Lodge , No . 2523 .

MINNEHAHA MINSTREL LODGE , No . 2363 . THE annual meeting and festival of St . John took place at the Victoria Hotel , Manchester , ou Monday , 23 rd ult ., Bro . Thomas Hamnett Worshipful Master . A passing had been announced ( Bro . R . C . Irwin ) , but this was postponed by consent of the candidate , so that the principal business of the afternoon

was that of installing Bro . Sam Luke S . W . into the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being performed by Bro . Fred Hilton P . M . P . P . G . D . C . ( brother-inlaw ) , assisted by the following Past Masters , viz ., Bro . Cyril H . Beever , who delivered the various addresses ; F . W . Bro . Luke will commence his year of office under very excellent auspices , for he has already in prospect one ceremony , with a likelihood of others , besides a joining member , and we wish him every succe'S duriug his Mastership .

THE MANCHESTER LODGE , No . 2554 . THE annual meeting and festival of St . John took j ; lace at the Freemasons ' Hall , Manchester , on Friday , 13 th ult ., Brother William Alderley Boyer Deputy Provincial Grand Registrar Worshipful Master , with a good attendance of members and visitors , to witness the installation into the chair of K . S . of Brother Arthur Clowes Knight Smith S . W .

The balance sheet and the report of the Audit Committee was presented , the statement showing a balance of £ 43 carried forward . The sum of £ 10 10 s was voted to Bro . A . J . Davis , who will represent the Lodge at the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent In stitution . A Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Tyler .

The Brethren retired for a short time , and at seven o ' clock sat down to one of the best banquets ever supplied by and under the personal superintendence of Bro . H . P . Harris the host . The toasts wero short , and in their brevity sweet .

Bro . Win . Fisher Asst . G . Purs . Eng . and P . G . Treasurer of the Province replied on behalf of the Grand Officers , and Bro . Terry P . G . Swd . Br . England , the well known and highly esteemed Secretary of the Benevolent Institution , who was described by Bro . Fisher as a " giant in oratory , " replied to the toast of the Masonic Institutions , in one of his characteristic speeches .

The Musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . W . T . Dillon P . M . Asst . G . D . O . Middx ., assisted by Miss Isabel Dillon his talented and charming daughter , who delighted the company both by her presence and excellent rendering of two songs , in one being accompanied by Bro . T . Z .

Choveaux Org . 1622 , & c . ; Mrs . G . Langdon junr ., who sang tbe National Anthem , and "Needles and Pins ; " Miss E . Dollie Langdon ( accompanist ) and the Kew Glee Singers ( Patron H . R . H . the Duke of Cambridge ) : Bro . R . J . Wood , Messrs . Fred Turner and Philip Barnham , whose rendering of the Grace "Laufli Spiritual ! " was particularly good . .

Bro . T . Z . Choveaux Org . 1622 very kindly presided at the Organ during the installation of Bro . Langdon . Bro . W . Langdon is also the I . P . M . and one of the Founders of the Rill Call Lodge , No . 2523 .
