R . M . I . BOYS .

AS announced last week Bro . J . W . Woodall attended at the School oo Tuesday , 7 th inst ., and delivered a lecture to the Boys on Canada . After giving a short account of the races who have inhabited Canada at different times , and showing a map of the country on a large scale , the lecturer proceeded to explain several beautiful views which were thrown on the sheet . There were , among others , some pictures of the great waterfalls of Canada , and a winter scene in which the water which splashed up from below had frozen into a cone of ice . The

winters iu Canada , he said , are much more severe than with us , but their severity is compensated for by the pleasures of tobogganing , which is known but little of in England . In summer , however , the temperature is delightful , but mosquito s abound . Apropos of these insects , Bro . Woodall told an amusing story , which he heard forty years ago , of a man who was so

worried by them that he put an iron pot over his head to keep them away . But as each sting penetrated the pot the victim clinched it , and thus fixed the mosquito . At last their numbers became so great that they flew away with the pot ! Bro . Woodall gave some interesting facts about the great towns of Canada ; especially Quebec , replete with the memories

of the heroism of General Wolfe ; and Montreal , noted for its bridge over the St . Lawrence , one of the most wonderful engineering feats that the world has known .. He also described , with the aid of illustrations , the interior of a Canadian saw mill ; these mills are worked by water instead of steam , and there are

no furnaces to consume the saw-dust , so it is thrown into the river—a very serious disadvantage , as it contaminates the water and destroys the fish . The lecture was listened to with rapt attention , and the Bovs showed their amareeiafcion of itbv t . Vn-RP . Vina . rlv f . Vmnrs .
