The Lodge was opened at 4 * 30 p . m ., when the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed .
Bro . B . T . Crabtree , who had been initiated at the previous Lodge , waa presented to be passed to the higher degree , and was duly entrusted , after satisfactory proof of his efficiency as an Apprentice . The Lodge was then opened up , and Bro . Crabtree was regularly passed to the degree of Fellow Craft . This ceremony being ended , the W . M . resumed the Lodge to the first degree , when the following candidates were introduced , after the ballot had
been proved unanimous m their favour : Mr . Amos Cooper , Mr . Charles Gerrard , Mr . Percy A . Whitbread , and Mr . Walter Gabriel Monteillet . In regular order these , four gentlemen were initiated into the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry , in connection with which work we may express agreeable surprise at the ability displayed by the W . M ., who filled the honourable position of Worshipful Master for the first time since his installation as ruler of the Lodge .
The Worshipful Master proposed that the Lodge should arrange for a summer outing , a suggestion which was seconded by Bro . A . Darch P . M . Russell was dangerously ill , which report was received with considerable regret . The W . M . proposed that a letter should be sent from the Lodge , expressing the regret of the members , and wishing Bro . Russell a speedy recovery , which suggestion was unanimously supported .
Letters of regret at inability to attend were read from several Brethren , hearty good wishes were tendered to the W . M ., and the Lodge was closed , the company adjourning to the Banquet Room , where an excellent repast was provided under the personal superintendence of Mr . L . Barry , Manager of this famous old Masonic house .
After the Loyal toasts Bro . Smith I . P . M . assumed the gavel , and expressed the pleasure it afforded him to be in the position to propose the health of the Worshipful Master of the Lodge . By the perfect manner in which their ruler had carried out the work that evening he had proved to the Brethren that they had selected the right man to preside over them . In everything he undertook there was promise of efficiency , and he felt sure there was a great future before the Royal Jubilee Lodge , the members of which must heartily wish Bro . Taylor a prosperous and busy year of office . The toast was most enthusiastically received .
The W . M ., on rising to respond , again met an ovation . He first sincerely thanked the I . P . M . and Brethren for the toast , and then assured them he should do everything in his power for the welfare of the Lodge while it remained under bis direction . Time was short , and he should have to curtail his remarks , but he could not omit an expression of his pleasure at
seeing so many familiar faces from Lambeth , Chelsea , Cheshunt and elsewhere ; he hoped to have the pleasure of seeing the Brethren present again on many future occasions . He also desired to tender a word of thanks to the Officers of the Lodge , for the way in which they had supported him in the work of fche day .
The W . M . nexfc proposed the toast of tha I . P . M . He could not find words to sufficiently thank Bro . Smith for the kind assistance he had rendered , and hoped to receive similarly loyal support from him during the remainder of his year of office . He felt the Brethren would join him in the wish that Bro . Smith would be with them in the Lodge for many years to come .
Bro . Smith thanked the W . M . and Brethren for their good wishes , and was delighted to be called upon to respond to such kind remarks . He had been told by fche worthy Treasurer and Secretary that he had made a record during his term of office , and he was pleased to hear so , but the present Worshipful Master would , he was sure , beat that record . He had undertaken to represent the Lodge at the next Festival of the Boys School , to which he had made a contribution in his own name , while several of the Brethren had
also promised subscriptions , but he should like still more support , as he wished to represent the Lodge with flying colours . He had specially to thank the members for having added twenty guineas from the Lodge funds . The nexfc toast was that of fche Initiates , who were heartily welcomed by the W . M ., who not only gave them a few words of encouragement , but expressed the opinion thafc fche latest additions to the Lodge would prove a considerable benefit ; to it .
