ON Thursday afternoon , 3 rd inst , the annual meeting of this Provincial Grand Mark Lodge was held in the Freemasons' Hall , Grainger Street West , Newcastle , when there was a very large attendance . The Provincial Grand Master Bro . Rev . Canon Tristram , D . D ., presided , and was supported by the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge .

The Prov . Grand Secretary Bro . John Heppell read the report of the Committee of General Purposes , which was proposed for adoption by Bro . Jacob Barker , seconded by Bro . C . D . Hill-Drury P . P . S . G . W . and carried .

The sum of twenty ' guineas had been allocated to the Benevolent and Educational Institutions , and the balance in the Treasurer ' s hands was £ 29 14 s iod . It was agreed that £ 10 10 s be granted to the Mark Benevolent Fund and a similar sum to the Mark Educational Fund .

The numerical strength of the Province was about the same as last year . . The roll of Lodges was called , when satisfactory reports were presented . The Provincial Grand Master afterwards addressed Provincial Grand Lodge , congratulating the Brethren on the

visit with which they were honoured that day , in having just received Bro . Lord Euston ' Pro Grand Master of England , and other Officers of the Grand Lodge of England . They all deeply regretted to hear of the serious illness of the

Deputy-Prov . G . M . Bro . T . Purvis , whom they looked upon as a model Officer . They all felt deeply that he had been obliged through ill-health to resign the appointment . He was glad to hear the reports of the several Lodges , which were upon the whole satisfactory .

Bro . G . W . Bain , Sunderland , was afterwards re-elected as Prov . Grand Treasurer . Bro . Col . W . M . Angus was introduced to the office of Deputy P . G . M . by Lord Euston , and invested by the Rev . Canon Tristram , D . D ., as his Deputy .
