, , , The Lodge having been duly opened , the minutes of the last meeting ¦ were read and confirmed . The ballot was then taken , and proved unanimous in favour of Mr . Frank Spurr , and that gentleman being in attendance he was introduced and regularly initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry . Bro . Albert George Knight , having proved his proficiency , was passed to the degree of a Fellow Craft . Both these ceremonies were chair for

performed by the Worshipful Master , who then vacated the Bro . Westwood , who opened the Lodge in the third degree , when Bro . David Boss was raised as a Master Mason and took his seat in ' the Lodge . Bro . Frederick James Salter was admitted as a Joining Member . Bro . F . G . Bird I . G ., having left the district , tendered his resignation , and Bro . B . Atkins was appointed to the vacant office . There being no other business the Lodge was closed in perfect harmony , and the Brethren adjourned to supper . The post prandial proceedings were of the customary complimentary character , and were considerably enlivened by some capital songs by Bros . Borradaile , Pean , Melvin and Sivewright , while Bro . Matthews kindly officiated as accompanist .

Various rumours of future celebrations were afloat during the evening , among which were a Masonic Ball early in the new year , the centenary memorial service of the Prestonian Lodge of Friendship , and the rehearsal of the consecration ceremony , by a popular member of Grand Lodge , at the Lodge of Instruction .

MADOC LODGE , No . 1509 . THE annual installation took place on Tuesday , 1 st inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Portmadoc . Bro . John Hughes , of Portdinorwic , was installed W . M . for the year , the installation ceremony being performed by Bro . Dr . Jones-Morris . ¦ The banquet was served at the Sportsman Hotel , there being a large attendance of Visiting Brethren .

ST . CECILIA LODGE , No . 1636 , AT a meeting held under the presidency of Bro . Colonel Tester P . P . G . W ., at the Boyal Pavilion , Brighton , on Tuesday , 9 th inst ., Bro . Alfred Upton was elected W . M . and Bro . W . Balchin jun . was re-elected Treasurer for the ensuing year .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1736 . ON Wednesday , 2 nd inst ., the annual meeting was held at Halifax , when Bro . W . W . Sykes was installed W . M . At tho close of the Lodge work the banquet was served by Bro . Hack , at which there were present sixty . The musical portion was ably provided by Bros . Buckland , W . S . Milligan , J . P . Varley , and J . H . Sykes .

WALTHAMSTOW LODGE , No . 2472 . THE annual supper of the Walthamstow Lodge of Instruction took place with considerable success on the 27 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Walthamstow . The arrangements were in the hands of Bros . B . J . Carter and C . H . Bestow the joint Secretaries , who must be congratulated upon the result of their efforts . As a special attraction Bro . F . A . Philbrick Grand

Begistrar of England and Deputy Grand Master of the Province of Essex , who is also the President of the Lodge , arranged to give a rehearsal of the Consecration Ceremony , and it was not therefore surprising to see such a large assemblage of the members and their friends . Bro . A . Lucking Prov . Grand Director of Ceremonies attended with the golden consecrating vessels , so that the ceremony was given in all its details .

Judge Philbrick was ably assisted by Bros . William Shurmur P . P . G . T . the Preceptor of the Lodgo as S . W ., Wm . Gower W . M . of the Walthamstow Lodge as J . W ., Bev . J . H . Clarabut as Chaplain , A . Lucking as D . C , and Percy Trickett as I . G . It is needless to say that thc ceremony was perfectly rendered , and proved of great interest to the Brethren . A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Philbrick for his kindly services , to which his Honour responded with his usual verve .

The Lodge was then closed and the company adjourned to supper , admirably served by Bro . Hallowes , of the Chequers Hotel , Walthamstow . At its termination the Queen and the Craft were duly honoured , after which the President was admirably complimented . The toast of the evening was of course the Walthamstow Lodge of

Instruction , but it was joined with another , the Walthamstow Masonic Benevolent Associations , as Bro . Philbrick considered they were intimately connected . He bore testimony to the good work achieved by each , and remarked that they were a credit to the Province and worthy of all imitation . The D . P . G . M . subsequently submitted the Preceptors .

Bros . W . Shurmur and W . Gower responded , and thanked the President for his kind appreciation . The toast of the Visitors was proposed by Bev . W . H . Langhome , Vicar of Walthamstow , and responded to by Bro . Basil Stewart . Besides those above mentioned there were present Bros . James Speller P . P . J . G . D . P . M . 2256 and 2374 , H . F . Bromhead P . P . G . S . W . P . M . 2501 , Gaorge Graveley P . M . 461 , G . W . Knight , J . Weedon , W . Dunstan , & c .

The speeches were interspersed with some excellent songs , and a very pleasant and profitable evening was spent .

ST . NICHOLAS LODGE , No . 2586 . THE installation of Bro . George Ball S . W . as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year took place on Monday evening , at the Masonic Hall , Scarborough , in the presence of a large number of Brethren , including visitors from other Lodges . The installation banquet was subsequently held at the Albemarle Hotel , after which the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured .
