D ., J . Bailey as J . D ., A . E . Trigg as I . G ., W . Brown Steward , and C . P . Bellerby P . M . The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Bro . Cobden , and were passed and confirmed . The ballot for Mr . William A . E . Holdup being unanimous he was duly initiated , rather impressively , by tbe acting W . M .
Bro . James Hemming P . M . 2398 having arrived be occupied the chair and opened the Lodge in the second degree . Bros . W . H . Street and A . Luker answered the questions capitally and were entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the third degree and they were raised to the sublime degree of M . M ., in a perfect rendering of the beautiful ritual , suoh as only an eloquent Preceptor , like Bro . Hemming , could deliver ; after which he gave an interesting exposition of tbe use of tho operating instruments of a Master Mason .
It being election night , with fraternal unanimity Bro . W . M . Ridley became W . M .-elect , Bro . C . P . Bellerby P . M . Treasurer , Bro . D . Ellis Tyler ( fe-elected ) , and Bros . W . Brown and Holdup were added to the Audit Committee . A Past Master ' s jewel was cordially voted to the W . M . Bro . Everard .
The amended Bye-Laws were passed for printing and circulation . Bro . Cobden made an eloquent appeal on behalf of the Charities . A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to P . M . Bro . J . Hemming , for the able services given by him to the Lodge , which Bro . James sweetly acknowledged and then closed .
An excellent repast was provided by Bro . Page , to which due justice was done , and at this entrancing function P . M . Bro . 0 . Bellerby presided and forwarded the proceedings with fluent energy . The usual toasts were duly honoured ; Bro . Ridley was warmly acclaimed , as W . M .-elect , Past Master Bellerby was congratulated as Treasurer , and Bro . Holdup , as the Initiate , was carefully attended to and duly honoured . The three Brothers briefly acknowledged the compliments .
The Officers and Visitors were accorded a bumper , and Bros . Cobden , Manlove , Hemming , Hope and Garrett acknowledged the same . The Tyler's toast finished a thoroughly enjoyable meeting , and some twenty Brethren returned to town in a spacious G . W . R . saloon .
CLARENCE LODGE , No . 2386 . AN important gathering of local Masons took place at the Masonic Hall , Chester , on Thursday evening , 4 th inst ., the occasion being the installation of Bro . Joseph Potts as Worshipful Master . The installation ceremony was performed by Bros . J . Thomas P . M . and Edwards P . M . At the conclusion of the business the Brethren sat down to a banquet .

Haines , who had been a member of the Lodge for many years , and proposed that a letter of sincere sympathy and condolence be sent to his son , daughter , and relatives , also that a wreath should ha sent by the members of the Lodge , for which the Brethren most liberally subscribed .
