SOUTH WALES .

ON Monday , 24 th ult ., Sir Edward Stock Hill , K . C . B ., M . P ., was installed as Provincial Grand Mark Master , at the Masonic Temple , Cardiff . The ceremony was performed by the Right Hon . the Earl of Euston Pro Grand Master , and there were also present at the ceremony Bro . W . W . B . Beach Deputy Grand Master , Bro . Alan de Tatton Egerton Prov . G . M . Cheshire , together with other Grand Officers .

The history of Mark Masonry in South Wales extends back over very many years , and up to 186 9 the Lodge established at Cardiff worked under the Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland . In that year , however , it transferred its allegiance to the English Grand Mark Lodge . It was not until 1880 , however , that a Provincial Grand Lodge was formed for the

southern half of the Principality , and this was placed under the rule of the Grand Registrar of England . The first meeting of this Lodge took place at Cardiff on 19 th April 1880 , and in the following year Sir Pryse-Pryse , of Gogerddan , was appointed by the Prince of Wales as Master of the Province , and Bro . N . D . Marks , of Cardiff , was appointed Provincial Grand Secretary , a position which he has held to this day .

Bro . Sir Edward Stock Hill , K . C . B ., M . P ., succeeds Sir Pryse-Pryse , so that a similar event to that which took place on Monday has not happened in . South Wales for nineteen years . In addition to the installation of Sir Edward Stock Hill , there was another interesting ceremony , viz ., the recognition of Bro . Robt . Lock P . P . S . G . W ., as Prov . Grand Senior Warden in charge of the Province .

After his installation the new Provincial Grand Master appointed his Officers , as follow :

Bro . T . P . Kerman 28 .... Senior Warden BL J . Gregory 256 .... Junior Warden Bev . David Bowen 256 ... Master Overseer I ? . Martin 28 - - - - - Senior Overseer Thomas Rogers 297 - - - - Junior Overseer Bev . G . L . Bowe . - - - - Chaplain

whole of the arrangements , deserves high praise upon the success which attended the gathering . A banquet followed at the Angel Hotel , Sir Edward

Hill presiding . During the evening a well-arranged programme of music was gone through , under the direction of Bro . E . T . Roberts . Miss Rebecca Mander , R . A . M ., was pianist , and her brilliant playing was much commented upon .

LEBANON , LODGE , No . 325 . AT the annual meeting at Lostwithel , last week , in the presence of a large gathering of Past Masters Bro . Robert Pease was installed W . M . by Bro . Shanks P . M .

The Treasurer reported that the financial condition of the Lodge was satisfactory . Bro . Shanks was highly complimented on the manner in which he had performed the ceremony of installation .

A Tercentenary edition of Bro . D . Murray Lyon's History of the Lodge of Edinburgh ( Mary ' s Chapel , No . i ) , embracing an account of the rise and progress of Freemasonry in Scotland , will be published in July- The work is dedicated

by permission to the Right Hon . Lord Saltoun M . W . Grand Master Mason of Scotland . The history , a second edition of that published in 1873 , is based upon the oldest Lodge

records extant and other MSS . claimed to be of unquestionable authenticity . The cost of the book to subscribers is one guinea , orders for which should be sent to R . W . Hawks , Frederick Street , Edinburgh .

A very enjoyable Ladies' night was organised by . the Brethren of the St . Clement ' s Lodge , at the Public Hall , Leigh , on Wednesday , 3 rd inst . Bro . George Mills Worshipful Master and Mrs . Mills received the Brethren and

their lady guests at eight o'clock . At a convenient interval , Bro . Ramu 2 stepped forward and congratulated the Worshipful Master upon the success of the dance . The

Brethren ought to think themselves fortunate , he said , in having such a genial W . M . He hoped that the Lodge would continue to prosper , be of benefit to Masons , and an example to surrounding Masonic Institutions .

We are pleased to notice another sign of progress in our midst—the appearance of a "Masonic Column" in the '' Manchester Herald . " We have often thought there is a

wide field open for Masonic workers in the establishment of such departments in the papers of the country ; and believe local Masonic columns night be made alike interesting and useful to the home Brethren and to the Craft at large .
