wishing the Mariners' Lodge every happiness . A pleasing feature in the evening ' s programme was the presentation of a set of diamond studs to Bro . J . K . Smith P . M ., and a magnificent black marble timepiece and two bronze vases to Bro . J . Hayes P . M . Tho clock bore the following inscription : — " Presented to Bro . Hayes P . M ., as a token of the re « ard and esteem in which ho is held by the members of the

Mariners' Lodge , No . 2-19 . Jnly 4 th 1878 . " Tho pleasures of tho evening were greatly enhanced by a recitation given by Bro . Conrtney in a most accomplished manner , and by the harmony contributed by Bros . M . Hart , Davies , Bell , Ilowarth , and others , accompanied by Bro . Bryan on the piano . The brethren , after spending a vory agreeable evening , dispersed at an early hour .

Northern Counties Lodge , No . 406 . —The regular meeting •was held ou Wednesday , tho 3 rd inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Maplestreet , 'Newcastle-on-Tyne , the W . M . Bro . R . L . Armstrong in the chair , J . Pa <* o S . W ., R . G . Salmon J . W ., G . W . Lax Sec , S . M . Harris S . D ., Macdonald as J . D ., "W . Monday P . M . D . C , J . S . B . BollI . G ., and G . S . Sims Tyler . The Lodgo being opened , and tho minutes conlirmed , the

ballot waa taken for Messrs . Marrison , Turnbull and Bourgoyne , which proving successful , and thoso gentlemen being in attendance , they were initiated , in a most creditable manner , by the W . M . No other bnsiness offering itself , the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to refreshment . Hero a very pleasing incident occurred : a deputation from St . Peters Lodge , No . 481 , consisting of Bros . R . Evnow W . M ., IF . S . Sewell I . P . M ., G . Thompson P . M . Treas ., J .

C ' cok P . M . P . P . G . S . W ., , T . Atkinson P . M . and [•] . Gibbon Sec , waited on the Worshipful Master , to convey to Iiim the congratulations ot St . Peters Lodge on his position as Master , and to express tho good feeling that existed between tho two Lodges . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts wero duly given , as also were several complimentary ones , that of St . Peters Lodgo being responded to by the Master , Bro . Eynow . Tho Tyler's toast concluded a very pleasent evening , which had been enlivened by some singing and recitations .

St . Peters Lodge , No . 481 . —The installation meeting of this Lodge took place on Monday , the 8 th inst . The brethren met at three o ' clock , nt the Masonic Hall , Maple-street , Newcastle-on-Tyne . Tho chair was taken by tho W . M . Bro . It . L ' ynow , supported by tho following Officers : —R . L . Armstrong W . M . 40 (> S . W ., J . Atkinson P . M . as J . W ., G . Thompson P . M . Treas ., E . Gibbon Sec , J . Watson

S . D ., J . Usher J . D ., Duckett I . G ., Goss and Prentice Stewards , and G . S . Sims Tyler . The Lodgo waa opened , aud the minntes confirmed , tho ballot was then taken for Mr . TJrwin , which being unauimous , thafc gentleman was initiated into our Order by the W . M . After whioh Bro . E . D . Davis P . M . Prov . G . D . C took the chair , and Bro . Eynow W . M . was presented to him for re-installation , having

been re-elected Master for the ensuing year . This having been done , and the brethren having duly sainted the newly installed Master , he appointed the following brethren as his Officers : —H . S . Sewell I . P . M ., J . "Watson S . W ., J . Usher J . W ., J . Duckett S . D ., J . Goss J . D ., G . Thompson P . M . Treas ., E . Gibbon Sec , T . Prentice I . G ., Ford and Stafford Stewards , and G . S . Sims Tyler . The usual address was

then given by the installing Master , and all other routine business having been disposed of , the Lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the Queen ' s Head Hotel , Pilgrim-street , where they sat down to a banquet replete with every delicacy of the season , and complete in all the appointments , reflecting the greatest credit on mine host Phillips for the admirable manner he studied the comforts

of the brethren , and it was only to be regretted thafc there was so few present . Grace being said by Rev . Bro . Hind , the W . M . rose to submit the first toast—one always drunk with enthusiasm , and by Masons with Loyalty—namely , the Qneen . The next toast on the list was H . R . H . the Prince of Wales Most Worshipful Grand Master . In calling on the brethren to honour this toast , the W . M . hoped he

would long live to rule over ns , he being a good and straightforward Englishman aud a good Mason . The health of the Pro G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , the D . G . M ., and Officers of Grand Lodge was likewise drunk . The W . M . then rose to givo the health of the K . W . Prov . G . M . tho Earl Percy and Officers of Prov . Grand Lodge . Ho trusted the rumour of the Earl giving up his Grand Mastership

wonld prove only talk , and that ho would long continue to rule over the Province . The Rev . Bro . Hind then proposed the toast of tho R . W . Prov . G . M . of Durham , John Faivcett , In the course of his remarks he stated he had ruled over that Province for thirty years , and ho was sure there could not be a better Prov . G . M . than lie was . Bro . Terry kindly sang the " Village Blacksmith . "

In a few well chosen remarks the W . M . gave the Initiate , and hoped he had been duly impressed by the ceremony . Ho also trusted ho would be often seen among them . Iu reply , Bro . Unviu expressed his thanks for his health being drunk , and hoped the brethren would have no cause to regret electing him a member . Bro . Sewell I . P . M . then rose to propose the health of tho Worshipfnl

Master . In submitting this toast he was asking them not to perform a formal iask , and he was sure they would drink it most heartily . The Master had been asked by the members to rule over them for another year , which would alone speak for the manner he had gone through his duty in the past . On one occasion only had be been absent , and

then on account of ill health . He had conducted the affairs of tho Lodge creditably , and as a ruler in the Craft should do . single word of discord or unpleasantness amongst any of tho members . He called on the brethren to join with him in wishing tho Master a prosperous year , and personally every happiness . Bro . Waters S . W . favoured tho brethren with ono of his excellent Tynoside songs . Tho W . M ., who on rising was heartily received , assured the brethren he could not find words to express his feelings .

Ho could only thank them for their kind sentiments , and hoped he deserved a small portion of them . He assured them it was tho last thought in his mind when last year he answered to his health , that he would bo called on again to occupy tho chair . Ho considered ifc a bad thing for any Lodgo to have to put a Past Master in the chair , but he would not go into that , as it was well known tho circumstances

wero those over which they had no control . He wonld do all in his power to merit tho confidence they had placed in him , for which ho again thanked them . Tho Installing Master was next given by tho W . M ., who expressed his regret that Bro . Sowed had been prevented from performing the installation as was intended , bnt all tho brethren knew tho assistance he had rendered at all times in the Lodge . In

replying , Bro . Sewell said it was one of tho keynotes of Masonry that it is the hope of reward thafc sweetens labour , and they had given him tho greatest reward thafc man can have , and which sweetens life . He assured them ho was always happy to do what was in his power to further their interests , and that of the good old Lodgo Sfc . Peter ' s . Ho regretted ho wi \ s not able to be present in the Lodge ,

but ifc was a greater gain to the brethren to be ablo to havo seen tho ceremony gone through by Bro . E . D . Davis , who kindly camo forward afc great inconvenience , being only asked to undertake the installation afc twelve o ' clock that day . He assured them ifc would always bo his endeavour , if at all in his power , to asssisfc tho Worshipfnl Master or any member of tho Lodgo . Bro . R . L . Armstrong ,

W . M . 400 , then rose to propose tho Past Masters , and in doing so coupled tho namo of Bro . G . Thompson P . M . Treas . with tho toast . He knew of no one that lie had greater respect for . If they only looked to what ho had done for the Lodge , they would say with him , he is a true man and Mason . He assured them no one could admire llro . Thompson more than he did , and he called on them to drink to

his health , happiness aud prosperity , as well as that of tho other Past Masters of the Lodge . Bro . Thompson , on rising , was heartily cheered . He returned his most sincere thanks for the toast , and for tho allusion to any slight service he had cheerfully rendered to tho Lodge . The Officers next received their meed of p raise , and the W . M . said , when last year ho had selected his staff ho knew he had picked

Ofticei-s who would do their duty , and he was glad to say ho had not been disappointed . Tho Visitors next received duo honours , and a very hearty welcome , and tho Tyler was then called , who brought ; to a conclusion the toast list . Amongst those brethren who contributed to tho evening ' s enjoyment by singing wero Bros . Ord , Decu , Rayner , Cook and Gibbon . The Visitors present wero Bros . J . Cook P . M ., Bord W . Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction No . 860 . —Held its weekly meeting on Tuesday evening last , at Bro . Smyth ' s , Sistera Tavern , Pownall-road , Dalston . Bro . Gilham WM ., Wardell S . W ., Christian J . W ., Williams J . D ., Dallas Secretary , Smyth Treasurer , P . M . Wallington Preceptor ; Bros . Hunt , Chandler , Brasted , C . Lorkin and others . The Lodgo was opened and the minutes read . The

ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Chandler candidate . The Preceptor then took tho chair . Bro . Hunt answered the questions , tho Lodgo was opened up , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Tho Lodgo was then opened and closed in the third degree , and tho W . M . resumed tho chair . Bro . Brasted worked tho first section of tho first lecture , assisted by tho brethren . A vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Gilham for his able working .

Whittington Lodge of Instruction , No . 862—On Wed . nesday , the 10 th inst ., at Bro . Hyde ' s , Red Lion , Poppin ' s ^ courfc , Fleetstreet . Bro . Tate W . M ., Brown S . W ., Hallam 3 . W ., Marston S . D ., Pate J . D ., Abell I . G ., Long P . M . Preceptor . The second ceremony

was ably rehearsed by the W . M ., after which tho whole of the sections wore worked by the brethren . Bro . Hallam jnn . was elected a member , and Bro . Brown elected W . M . for tho ensuing week . The Lodge was then closed . In spite of the summer weather this Lod ° -e keeps up an average attendauce of members .

Neptune Lodge , No . 1264 . —The monthly meeting of this Lodge was held on 1 st July , afc tho Masonic Temple , Liverpool . Bros . Joseph Korn AV . M ., W . C Webb S . W ., A . C Wylie J . W ., J . 11 Linaker Sec , P . B . Gee P . M . Treas ., A . Cotter P . M . D . C , T . H . Arden S . D ., G . Cruto as J . D ., J . Tickle Steward , J . S . Warden I . G ., P . Ball Tyler . P . M . ' s Bros . J . Healing , J . W . Burgess 1325 . The Lodao

having been opened and preliminaries gone through , the W . M ., in a thoroughly efficient manner , passed Bros . Fender , Cavers , Kirkpatrick , and Bros . Robertson , and Sheffield ( Downshire Lodge , No . 594 ) to the Fellow Craft degree . The Lod ge was then worked up , and Bro . Adam Williamson was raised . This ceremony was also performed by Bro . Korn iu a very able manner . This the more redounds

to his credit , as it was the first meeting after his installation . After business of a character interesting but to tho members , the Lodgo was closed , and the brethren adjourned to refreshment . A very pleasant evening was spent , and tho Worshipful Master received tho congratulations of the brethren for his admirable working , and their thanks for his genial presidency .

Hamer Lodge , No . 1393-The installation meeting waa held on Inday , 28 th ult ., at tho Masonio Hall , Liverpool . Amongst those present wo noticed Past Masters Bros . ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Chandler candidate . The Preceptor then took tho chair . Bro . Hunt answered the questions , tho Lodgo was opened up , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Tho Lodgo was then opened and closed in the third degree , and tho W . M . resumed tho chair . Bro . Brasted worked tho first section of tho first lecture , assisted by tho brethren . A vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Gilham for his able working .

A very pleasant evening was spent , and tho Worshipful Master received tho congratulations of the brethren for his admirable working , and their thanks for his genial presidency .
