Marquess of Bipoil Lodge , No . 1489 . —The annual installatiou meetiner of this Lodgo was held on Friday , tho Sth inst ., in the Hall of the Metropolitan Societies' Asylnm , Ball's Pond-road , Dalston . In the absence of the W . M . Bro . W . Stephens P . M ., Treasurer , opened the Lodge , with tho assistance of Bros . J . E . Walford S . W ., Grist as J . W ., W . J . Mnrlis P . M . Sec , & c . Tho preliminary business of the
meeting having been disposed of , the report of the auditors was submitted and adopted , it showed that after paying all expenses incurred by tho Lodge a considerable balance remained in hand . A board of Installed Masters was next formed , and Bro . J . E . Walford O . C ., P . M . 177 and W . M . elect , being formally presented , was in . stalled by P . M . W . Stephens , in a most impressive manner . On the
re-admission of the brethren , and the usual salutations over , Bro . Walford proceeded to invest his officers , as follow : —Bros . Symons S . W ., J . High J . W ., W . J . Murlis Secretary , W . Stephens Treasurer , J . Hastings Miller P . P . G . Onanist , Middlesex , S . D ., J . Glaskin J . D ., Grist I . G ., Smith D . C , Stanton W . S ., Coard Organist , Gilchrist Tyler . The ceremony being over , Bro . Blunt proposed that a vote of thanks
bo recorded on tho minutes to Bro . Stephens , for having so efficiently installed their "W . M . This , having neen seconded , was carried unanimously . During the ceremony Bro . J . II . Miller presided at the harmonium . The Lodgo was then formally closed and adjourned until the first Friday in December . Tho brethren now sat down to a splendid banquet , provided in a most efficient manner by Bro . Grist .
At its conclusion , and after grace had been said , the W . Master rose for the firsfc time as President at their banquet table . He assured the brethren that his remarks in introducing the various toasts would bo very brief . There aro certain toasts given at every meeting of English Freemasons ; tho first of these is always received with sincere earnestness ; he would call upon them to honour it ; it
was that of the Queen , coupled with success to the Craft . This re . ceiving full recognition , the National Am hem was sung , and the W . M . rose to give the second on the list , H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M . He considered it a fortunate circumstance we have a brother of so great importance at our head . He is certainly the right man in the right place , being a Princo and a Mason who endeavours
to discharge his duties with credit . The brethren having drank to the health of tho G . M ., sang " God Bless the Prince of Wales . " The next toast was that of the Earl of Carnarvon , Lord Skelmersdale , and the rest of the Grand Officers . Any brother who attended Grand Lodge would admit that the brethren who were placed at the head of tho Craft wero deserving of any honour wo , as Masons , conld
confer on them . It was very gratifying to him to seo that so many Grand Officers had honoured him by attending at his installation . In the name of the Lodgo he gave them all a hearty welcome , and , personally , he tendered them his warmest thanks . Ho coupled with the toast the name of Bro . John Boyd , who , in replying , referred to some of the duties a Master has to perform during his year of office .
Judging from tho way in which tho installation ceremony had been carried ont , he felt sure that any work which might offer during tho coming year would bo effectually performed by the Master and his Officers . He thanked the brethren on behalf of tho Earl of Carnarvon , who , ho stated , was too popular to need any enlogy from him . With regard to Lord Skelmersdale , if he was not so
well known in London as the Pro Grand Master , all they had to do was to refer to his own Province , whore they would hear the highest encomiums passed on him . In the name of the Grand Officers , and on behalf of himself , ho thanked the brethren for tho reception they had accorded the toast . To propose the next on tho list—the Visitors—was a great pleasure to the W . M .
On the present occasion they were honoured with the presence of several distinguished brethren . On behalf of the Lodge , he tendered them the heartiest thanks , and hoped they would thoroughly enjoy themselves . He called upon an old friend , Bro . M . Haydon , one whom ho had known for many years in Masonry , to respond . Bro . Haydon having briefly thanked the brethren , was followed by Bro .
Pearson , who considered it a great treat to spend a fow hours in tho company of his brethren . From what he had witnessed that evening he looked forward to a pleasurable year for the Lodge , and for this he was sure tho brethren had tho best wishes of the Visitors . Bro . P . M . Wm . Stephens now assumed the gavel , he very much regretted the absence of the I . P . M . ; he should have liked that brother to
propose the health of their present Master , who had been ono of tho founders of tbe Lodge , and had worked through every office . He wished him very success in his present position , and hoped the brethren wonld join in those good wishes . Bro . Grist followed with a song , after which the W . M . rose to reply . He would use his endeavours to promote good feeling in the Lodge . Being an old Past
Master , he knew something of the order of proceedings . It was his ambition , as a founder , to be a P . M . of the Lodge , and this ho trusted wonld be tbe case twelve months hence . He hoped the brethren would have no reason to complain of having selected him to preside over them . Tho health of the Past Masters was next proposed . Being a yonng Lodge they could not boast of many , but those
they had were good men , and worthy of the respect of the members . The W . M . much regretted the absence of the I . P . M ., and sincerely hoped that nothing serious had happened to him . He should have to defer the presentation of the jewel , voted by the Lodge , until tho next meeting , when ho trusted their brother would be among them . Bro . Murlis responded ; to do so was a pleasure he had not expected . He was delighted to see such an assembl y , also to see snch a worth y
brother in the chair . On tho W . M . s next rising , he said it required a great deal of judgment to pay a compliment to all who deserved it . they must not forget the brother who had charge of their funds , he was ever ready to pay the debts of the Lodge , not only to tho full extent of the Lodge funds , but even to advance money from his own pocket , if needful . Bro . H . M . Levy here gave some excellent imitations , which were greeted with applause . The Treasurer , in response , was gratified at the reception the brethren had accorded

to the remarks of the W . M . He was the father of the Lodge , and hoped he should be among them for many years to come . He referred specially to the exertions of the members on behalf of the Charities . During his year of office something liko £ 300 had been collected by the Stewards who went np from their Lodge ; ho hoped they would continue , as in past years , to send up a Steward to each
of tho Festivals . He intended , next year , to represent the Girls School , and hoped his friends wonld render him assistance , as he wished his list to reach £ 100 . Bro . Somers at once offered the amount of his Life Governorship , to be placed on Bro . Stephens ' s list . Success to the Masonic Press was given , and responded to by Bros . Massey and Morgan jun . The W . M . next gave the health of the Officers , he hoped that during their terra of service they would ba
punctual in attendance , and join with him in making the coming year a time of pleasure to themselves and profit to tho Lodge . The S . W . briefly replied . He hoped to have the assistance of the Past Masters , among whom he hoped some day to have a place .
