reverting in very eloquent and touching language to the loss whioh the Rig ht Honourable Lord Egerton of Tatton Provincial Grand Master had sustained by the recent death of Lady Egerton . In responding to the toast of the Worshipful Master , very ably performed by Bro . Whiston , Bro . Lookitt said that there are times when a man is placed in very great difficulty , and the best thing to do

under snoh circumstances is to get out aa gracefully as possible . He felt that if he possessed but half tho qualities and abilities ascribed to him , and had deserved anything like tbe praise whioh his brethren had bestowed upon him that evening he would be above the average quality of men , bub he knew that despite their eulogiums he had many shortcomings . He reminded his audience that just thirty years

ago he bad occupied for tbe first time the position to which he had again been assigned . It was a very great trust whioh had been reposed in him , and he hoped that he should never do anything to merit the disapproval of his brethren . He knew from experience that men were placed into office because they had gained tbe good wishes of those around them , and though the position he then

occup ied was considered a very high honour when attained under ordinary circumstances , he must consider it to be a double hononr to occupy it during the centenary year . Ifc would be his aim tbat the good working , the prosperity , and tbe harmony of the Lodge should be maintained . It was no light task to follow in the footsteps of . such distinguished predecessors aa Bros . Smith , Bland , Jackson , Wads worth ,

and Ibeson , and in the light of these names , he felt himself to be but a very humble individual . He could , however , assure them thafc he appreciated the honour which they had conferred upon him , and wonld try to discharge ' his duties with credit to himself and witb satisfaction to the Lodge . Bro . Leech very tersely proposed the toast of the Installing Master ? , to whioh Bros . Brookes aud Needham

responded . Bro . Brookes said that it was very gratifying to have had his health so cordially proposed . He reminded them of the memorable example of Lord Nelson at the battle of Trafalgar , and added that no Mason , when called upon to do his duty should refuse , and personally he' bad made up his mind to be faithful to whatever calls might be made npon him . He should

mark this day as a distinguished one in Masonry , and would never forget it aa long aa he lived . He wished Bro . Lockitt W . M . long life and happiness , and concluded by thanking Bro . Needham for the efficient aid whioh he had rendered . Iu proposing the toast of the Immediate Past Master and other Officers of the Lodge , the W . M . stated that the Combermere Lodge stood second to none in the

Province witb regard to Masonio Charities , and this fact was entirely due to Bro . George Ibeson I . P . M ., an acknowledgment whioh he was proud to make . Bro . Ibeson said in response that he was deeply grateful to Bro . Brookes and Needham , who in his enforced absence from them that day had so worthily performed their allotted tasks . During the financial year just ended , he had made 14 Lodge

attendances , two being meetings of emergency , and he intended still to devote the necessary time and attention to Masonic ritual . He thanked individually and collectively every junior Officer who had rendered him any assistance . The proceedings were enlivened b y songs , & o ., given by Bros .
