Snffolk waa to he congratulated upon having for its Grand Master one of the host known aud most deservedly respected noblemen io the country—a family whose name had for many years been intimately connected with the county . Lord Henniker waa nofc merely an ornament , of the Freemasons , as there was not a more hardworking or painstaking Prov . Graud Master to bo fonnd , or one who tried to

make himself so thoroughly acquainted with the details of the work of the Province . Bro . J . Waskett , in proposing the toast of the evening , the Worshipful Master , referred in appropriate terms to the pleasure with whioh the brethren hailed the elevation of Brother Mayhew to the chair , the duties of which , he knew , from past experience of Bro . Mayhow ' a M-vruio abilities , would be carried out

with credit to himself and hononr to the Lodge . The Worshipfnl Master , in a happy reply , said that no one could bo more proud than he was at that moment in occupying the position of W . M . of that Lodge , the interests of which he had always had afc heart . He took it as a great compliment that a number of brethren should come from a distance to witness his installation , accepting ifc as evidence that ho was

nofc altogether in the wrong place , and that it was their unanimous desire that ho shonld ( ill tho office . He was confident thafc the brethren would assist him to carry " * . t the duties of the Lodge . He could not , ho thonght , bo expected to carry our , tho work of the Lodge as perfectly aa he could wish , because of the various other calls upon his

time , bufc he at the same time impressed upon tho brethren that he would do all in his power to further the cause of Freemasonry , and of the Lodge over whioh he presided in particular . The other toasts were tbe Immediate Past Maater and Installing Master , the Newly Initiated , the Officers , tho Masonio Charities , the Past Officers of the Lodge , the Visitors , and the Tyler ' s Toast .

BUTE LODGE , No . 960 . THE annual festival in connection with this Lodge waa held at the Masonio Hall , Working Street , Cardiff , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., when Bro . Samuels was duly installed Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . The ceremony of installation was performed by Bro . W . B . Ferrier Prov . Grand Registrar . The Worshipful Master then appointed hia Officers , as follow : —Bros . Hybarfc S . W ., Ensor

J . W ., Peace Treasurer , Bedford Secretary , Baker S . D ., Gilling J . D ., Davey Dir . of Cers ., Deacon Organist , Tainshl . G ., Bacon and Phillips Stewards , Clarke Assistant Secretary , Jenkins Tyler . Thore was a large attendance of members of the Craft , including representatives of the various other Lodges in Cardiff and district . A very

interesting part of the ceremony was the presentation of a Past Master ' s jewel to Bro . Ferrier by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro , Tennant . Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the retiring Officers , and the newly-installed Worshipful Master ( Bro . Samuels ) was the

recipient of numerous congratulations and expressions of esteem and goodwill at the hands of the visiting brethren . Afc the conclusion of the ceremony the brethren , to the number of about 80 , assembled at the Angel Hotel , where the annual banquet was served . Brother Samuels W . M . presided .

ST KEVY LODGE , No . 1222 . ON Tuesday evening , the 3 rd irst ., at the Masonio Hall , Westonsuper-Mare , Bro . James Partridge Capell was formally installed into the chair of K . S . for the ensuing year in tho presence of a large number of resident and visiting brethren . Th « ceremony of iustallation WDS efficiently undertaken by Bro . Sellick the I . P . M ., in tho

presence of tho D . P . G . M . of Somersst ( Bro . It . C . Else ) . Subsequently the W . M . elect distributed collars of office , as follow .- — Bros . Sellick I . P . M ., Butfc S . Bird , whose namo he coupled with the toast , was the first Master of Prudence Lodge . Bro . Bird had ever since been one of tho mosfc attentive members , and he hoped they would long continue to have the benefit of his

valuable services . Bro . Bird briefly replied . Bra . Gover gave the Master of tho Lodge , Bro . Godfrey Evans . Prudence Lodgp , be said , was originally instituted to improve the position of Masonry in tbe Province , ancl it certainly had proved a v »> ry successful Lodge , and had done mnoh good . Its list of Past Masters had been a credit to the Order , and it ** , present Master would occupy a deservedly

prominent place in the list . Tha \ V . M ., in reply , said he had tried to do his duty , and fo ' fc gratified to find that it was considered he had so far been successful . He congratulated the brethren upon the success obtained in tho late Masonic concert on behalf of the Devon Educational Fund . M . Bro . John Stubbs presided . The retiring W . M . effectively performed the installation ceremony , ably assisted by Bro . E . Armitage , and the following Officers were invested : —Bros . There was a good attendance of brethren , including the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Chester , Sir Horatio Lloyd . Bro . W . H . Finohett performed the duties of Installing Master , and as tho Worahipful Master ( Bro . T . Litberland )

retired from the office after his year ' s dervice , Bro . Captain Cooper , E . A ., waa installed Worshipful Muster . Bros . Major Lord was elected Senior Warden , Sevueaut-Majov M'Kny Junior Warden , and the other Officer * wero appointed . Tha Past M-liter ' s jewel was presented by the Lodge to Bro . Liiherland on his retirement .

Lodge Of Instruction , No . 581 . —The annual meeting and Festival of St , John tho Evangelist in connection with this popular Lodge of Instruction , was hold afc that homo of Masonry , the Old Boar's Head Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 12 th January . About forty brethren sat down to dinner . Our representative ( Bro . E . Roberts P . M . ) , has promised to furnish ui with a full report of the meeting , whioh will accordingly appear in an early issue of thia journal .
