M ., who has for some tima past acted as Preopetor of

the Duke of Edinburgh Lodge of Instruction , and whose efforts to promote the prosperity and welfaro of both Lodges have been productive of good feeling and greater energy among the members . Lodge being duly closed , the brethren adjourned to an ample and well-served repast . The toast of The Queen and the Craft , and that of H . R . H . the Prince of Wales M . W . G . M ., wero proposed and accepted with Masonio enthusiasm . The festive glass and the

fragrant weed then lent their attractions to the ocoaaion , which was further imprtf d in the intervals between the speeohes by songs and recitations . Bro . Seddon , who has been Organist for 19 years , played an admirable little piece on the pianoforte , entitled "The Montana Valse , " by Bullock , and tbe various acoompaniments for the other brethren . The Tyler's toast brought the proceedings to a close .

a most commendable manner by the worthy ho 3 t , Mr . Tonlmin , who we regret to state , is very unwell . On re-assembling in the Lodge room , Bro . S . D . McKelUm took the chair and raised Bro . H . S . Johnson to the third degree , a similar honour being conferred upon BIT . A . R . Johnson by Bro . Geo . Burslem . The whole of the work was remarkably well done , and reflected great credit on all con .

corned . Thero being no further business , the Lodge was closed in peac ) and harmony , nt 9 o ' clock . The W . M . presided at the social boar J , and after the usual preliminary toasts had been honoured , the health of the newly-raised brethren were proposed and responded to ; also the Visitors , the Worshipful Master , and the Past Mastera .

A pleasant evening ' 8 entertainment was enhanced by the singing of some capital songs from Bros . Captain Langshaw , John Allin , & o . A special toast waa the health of Bro . Captain Langshaw , who although only a yonng man , has done good service in the Merchant Navy , and been deservedly awarded a captain ' s certificate .

SOUTHGATE LODGE , No . 1950

THE installation meeting of this prosperous Lodge waa held at the Station Hotel , New Southgate , on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., when about 40 members and viaitora were present . Amongst the members were Bros . Stretoh W . M ., Phipos S . W ., Duck J . W ., Lefebar Treaanrer , Trewinnard Secretary , Newman S . D ., Winsor J . D ., CorkeDir . of Cera ., Gilmore I . G . ; Past Mastera Matthews , Lewis , Tibbitts ; also Bros . Gay , Enery , Davies , Carr , Fonlko 8 ; Visitors—H . Godwin J . W . 1673 ,

others . Tbe Lodgo was opened in due form , and tha minutes of last meeting wero read and confirmed . Mr . J . Caie was initiated into Freemasonry by the W . M . in a most able and efficient manner . Bro . F . Falkes was duly passed to the second degree . The W . M . Bro . S . Stretch then installed Bro . T . J . Pbipos iu the chair of King Solomon in au impressivo manner . Tho newly installed W . M .

appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year . The W . M . presented the I . P . M . with a Past Master ' s jewel , and said that it gave him the greatest pleasure , aa Bro . Stretch had really earned it . If any Brother deserved to be a Past Master it was Bro . Stretoh ; he had given so muoh of his timo to the Lodge , and waa a good worker in all the degrees . He ( the W . M . ) sincerely hoped that he

would be a inembor of the Lodgo for many yeara to come . After routine business Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting table , wero a splendid spread was provided . The first toast on the list given was that of the Qneen and Craft . Tho W . M . said ho knew tluit all the members aud visitors aittiug round the table were loval subjects ' , therefore he knew that in offering the toast

of the Queen if . would receive a hearty response . The toast of H . R . H . the Prinoe of Wales was duly honoured . The W . M . then gave the toast of tho Deputy Grand Master and the rest of tho Grand Officers Present and Past . In speaking of the Deputy Graud Master the W . M . said he waa suro that he was one of the best men in Freemasonry . He was plea = ed to say they had a Grand Officer amongst

them that evening , who was a well known man in the Craft , he meant Bro . Sadler Grand Tyler . Bro . Sadler was one of the founders of the Souihgsito Loig <' , and ho wunld net have left it but through pressure of his other Masonio duties . Ho had great pleasure in coupling his name with the toast . Bro . Sadler replying , said it afforded him s ; reat pleasure to respond to this toast . He had been , as the W . M .

had told them , one of the Founders of the Lodge , and if be had been able to attend to the dutiVs ho should never have left them , but he had so many eugngemeuts it was impossible for him to attend to all . He wished the Lodge every success and happiness , and hoped he should b <* able to pay them a visit on some other ocoasion . The I . P . M . Bro . Stretch gave the toast of the Worshipful Master . In a

few kindly words he said , for the fust time he had the pleasure of proposing the health of the Worshipfnl Master . Bro . Phipos ' a good name and kindly ways had endeared him to all the brethren . There is no member of tbo S' utbgate Lodge who doe « not like onr Worship ful Master . From the desire he haa always evinced to promote the good of the Lodge and the happiness of all its members

he sincerely hoped he would have a prosperous year , with plenty of candidates , and might he oujoy good health to be with us for many years to com' ' . The W . M . thanked Bro . Stretch for the kindl y manner in which he had proposed the toast and the way the brethren hnd received it . The Officera who had been appointed this evening were well placed , and it was a good augury for the coming

your that the Lodge had such workers . The toaat of the Installing Master was proposed by the W . M . ; he was not a very old Mason , but he could say tu & t he had never heard the ceremony done better than it had born done on that occasion . The I . P . M . had done good suit and service to the Southgate as a worker , and had brought some good men into the Lodge . He felt that the brethren would never

forget the happy year they had spent under his kindly rule . Bro . Stretch ler-lying ; it was proud a moment for him to attain tho high honour which he had secured that night . He was initiated in the Southgate Lodge , and it was the only one to which he belonged . Ho hoped and trusted he should remain a member for many years . The toast of the initiate was very favourably received , and

Bro . Caie , iu reply , thauked the W . M . and brethren for the kindness they had shown . Tbe Visitors' toast the W . M . said was , next to the Initiate , tha toast of tho evening . We should have very little life in our Lodges if it were not for the Visitors . He called on the I . P . M . to rend ont the names of those who were present on thia

A pleasant evening ' 8 entertainment was enhanced by the singing of some capital songs from Bros . Captain Langshaw , John Allin , & o . A special toast waa the health of Bro . Captain Langshaw , who although only a yonng man , has done good service in the Merchant Navy , and been deservedly awarded a captain ' s certificate .

THE installation meeting of this prosperous Lodge waa held at the Station Hotel , New Southgate , on Thursday , the 5 th inst ., when about 40 members and viaitora were present . Amongst the members were Bros . Stretoh W . M ., Phipos S . W ., Duck J . W ., Lefebar Treaanrer , Trewinnard Secretary , Newman S . D ., Winsor J . D ., CorkeDir . of Cera ., Gilmore I . Bro . F . Falkes was duly passed to the second degree . The W . M . Bro . S . Stretch then installed Bro . T . J . Pbipos iu the chair of King Solomon in au impressivo manner . appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year . The W . M . presented the I . P . M . with a Past Master ' s jewel , and said that it gave him the greatest pleasure , aa Bro . Stretch had really earned it . If any Brother deserved to be a Past Master it was Bro . Stretoh ; he had given so muoh of his timo to the Lodge , and waa a good worker in all the degrees . He ( the W . M . ) sincerely hoped that he

would be a inembor of the Lodgo for many yeara to come . After routine business Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banqueting table , wero a splendid spread was provided . The first toast on the list given was that of the Qneen and Craft . Tho W . M . said ho knew tluit all the members aud visitors aittiug round the table were loval subjects ' , therefore he knew that in offering the toast

of the Queen if . would receive a hearty response . The toast of H . R . H . the Prinoe of Wales was duly honoured . The W . M . then gave the toast of tho Deputy Grand Master and the rest of tho Grand Officers Present and Past . In speaking of the Deputy Graud Master the W . M . said he waa suro that he was one of the best men in Freemasonry . He was plea = ed to say they had a Grand Officer amongst

them that evening , who was a well known man in the Craft , he meant Bro . Sadler Grand Tyler . Bro . Sadler was one of the founders of the Souihgsito Loig <' , and ho wunld net have left it but through pressure of his other Masonio duties . Ho had great pleasure in coupling his name with the toast . Bro . Sadler replying , said it afforded him s ; reat pleasure to respond to this toast . He had been , as the W . M .

had told them , one of the Founders of the Lodge , and if be had been able to attend to the dutiVs ho should never have left them , but he had so many eugngemeuts it was impossible for him to attend to all . He wished the Lodge every success and happiness , and hoped he should b <* able to pay them a visit on some other ocoasion . The I . P . M . Bro . Stretch gave the toast of the Worshipful Master . In a

few kindly words he said , for the fust time he had the pleasure of proposing the health of the Worshipfnl Master . Bro . Phipos ' a good name and kindly ways had endeared him to all the brethren . There is no member of tbo S' utbgate Lodge who doe « not like onr Worship ful Master . From the desire he haa always evinced to promote the good of the Lodge and the happiness of all its members

he sincerely hoped he would have a prosperous year , with plenty of candidates , and might he oujoy good health to be with us for many years to com' ' . The W . M . thanked Bro . Stretch for the kindl y manner in which he had proposed the toast and the way the brethren hnd received it . The Officera who had been appointed this evening were well placed , and it was a good augury for the coming

your that the Lodge had such workers . The toaat of the Installing Master was proposed by the W . M . ; he was not a very old Mason , but he could say tu & t he had never heard the ceremony done better than it had born done on that occasion . The I . P . M . had done good suit and service to the Southgate as a worker , and had brought some good men into the Lodge . He felt that the brethren would never

forget the happy year they had spent under his kindly rule . Bro . Stretch ler-lying ; it was proud a moment for him to attain tho high honour which he had secured that night . He was initiated in the Southgate Lodge , and it was the only one to which he belonged . Ho hoped and trusted he should remain a member for many years . The toast of the initiate was very favourably received , and

Bro . Caie , iu reply , thauked the W . M . and brethren for the kindness they had shown . Tbe Visitors' toast the W . M . said was , next to the Initiate , tha toast of tho evening .
