— : o : — KOYAL STANDARD LODGE , No . 1298 , LONDON . Installation , of Brother Henry Alfred Badman .

THE thirty-first anniversary festival of this Lodge was held on Wednesday of last week , at the Holborn Resanrant , W . C ., and proved to be a very enjoyable function . The Brethren met in the handsome Temple , nearly all the members being present , and there were also a goodly number of visitors whose names are

given below . The Lodge was opened by Bro . John A . Stone , who presided for the last time during his year of Office ^ soon after four o'clock , this early hour being necessary owing to two other ceremonies taking place before tbe installation of the new Master , After the minutes had been read and confirmed , Bro ,

Frederic Herbert Lyon answered the usual questions , was entrusted , and passed to the second degree . Bro . Charles Cox proved his proficiency as a Craftsman , and was subsequently raised * to the rank of a Master Mason . The report of the Audit Committee was presented and accepted .

Bro . Henry Alfred Badman W . M .-elect was presented by Bro . J . E . Carver P . M ., and signified his assent to the ancient charges and regulations . A Board of twenty-two Installed Masters was then formed , and in their presence Bro . Badman was formally placed in the chair in accordance with the old traditions . We may here remark that the whole of these ceremonies , together with the subsequent traditions , were admirably rendered

by Bro . Stone , and met with the entire approval of those present . The new Master having been proclaimed and saluted , then proceeded to invest his Officers , as follow : Bros . J . E . Cuthbertson S . W ., A . J . Ward J . W ., ( the election of Treasurer was postponed until the next meeting ) , S . H . Pearsall P . M . Secretary , W . Gostick S . D ., J . E . Rugg J . D ., H . Langridge I . G ., J . E . Carver P . M . D . C , A . J . Brown , J . Murphy and A . E . Nicholson Stewards , and T . Edmunds P . M . Tyler .

The resignation of two members was accepted with regret . The death of an old member of the Lodge , Bro . Wilkinson , was reported , and a letter of sympathy was ordered to be sent to his family . The Lodge decided to support the Petition of the Brethren who are applying for a Warrant to form the North London Lodge , and the signatures of the Master and the two Wardens were attached thereto .

This concluding the business before the Lodge , the Master received the hearty good wishes of the visiting Brethren , and the meeting adjourned . The installation banquet was served in the Princes Hall , the book of the menu , toasts and music , being designed by Bro . Badman and very artistically got up . During dinner the Master

announced the attack upon the Prince of Wales at Brussels , and great satisfaction was felt at his happy escape from injury . A telegram of congratulation was also sent to His Royal Highness . The toasts of the Queen and the Grand Master were received with more than ordinary enthusiasm in consequence . Bro . Stiles P . G . T . and Mason P . G . Std . B . responded for the Grand Officers .

Bro . John Stone LP . M . proposed the health of the Worshipful Master . He bore testimony to his private work and public duties , and said he knew him to be a good man and a good Mason . He had worked a long time with him in the Lodge , and he was sure all would agree that Bro . Badman had distinguished himself in all the Offices ; so that if good work , courteous behaviour , and a genial disposition could make a good Master , they were sure to have one during the ensuing twelve months .

Bro . Badman , who was received with long continued applause , briefly returned thanks , saying he had reached the height of his ambition that evening by being installed as Master , because although he had been a Freemason for twenty-eight years , circumstances had prevented him from accepting Office until his return to this country . He hoped to be able to undertake the duties of the chair in such a manner as to reflect credit on himself , and give satisfaction to the Brethren .

The W . M . afterwards presented a Past Master ' s jewel to his predecessor , as a proof of good-will from the Lodge for good services well rendered . He had much pleasure in making the presentation to Bro . Stone , and trusted he would long be spared to wear it and to be of assistance to the Lodge .

Bro . Stone , in reply , said it was only seven years ago that evening that he sat at the right hand of the Master as an initiate , and now he had passed to the left side as Immediate Past Master . It was a great pleasure to him to know he had given satisfaction to the Brethren , because he had had a successful year both from

a Masonic and a financial point of view . They had all worked together harmoniously , and he had received their kind support upon every occasion . He appreciated the beautiful jewel very highly , and should wear it with pride whenever he entered a Lodge . If he could help in any way to promote the interests of the Royal Standard Lodge he should be pleased to do so .

Bros . Elliott , James Brown , and Lainigeon responded for the Visitors ; Bros . Carver and Richardson replied to the complimentary remarks of the Master with respect to the Past Masters ; and the Officers having been similarly congratulated , the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to an agreeable termination .

afterwards played a pianoforte solo in a most efficient manner . The other artistes : Miss Masie Riversdale , Bros . Roland Henry , and Wills Page , gave an excellent account of themselves , and Bro . A . Caye Nelson also rendered a glassophone solo , " Benedictus , " in most excellent manner .
