rilHE annual convocation of this Provincial Grand I Chapter was held on Wednesday afternoon , under the auspices of the Sincerity Chapter , No . 1019 , in the Mechanics ' Institute , Wakefield . In the absence of the Right Hon . W . L . Jackson , M . P ., Prov . Grand Superintendent the chair was occupied by Comp . Ensor Drury P . G . Soj . P . Z ., of Sheffield . Eight Chapters were unrepresented .
Comp . Drury said that two Chapters had been added to the roll of the Province since their last annual meeting—the Milton , No . 1239 , at Sheffield , and the Colne Valley , No . 16 45 , at Slaithwaite . There had been a considerable increase in the number of members during the past year . They now had nine Chapters in the Province which were founded over 100 years ago .
The Provincial Grand Treasurer presented the balancesheet , which showed that the year commenced with a balance in hand of £ 280 , and concluded with one of £ 328 3 s 76 . The accounts were adopted . Another fifty guineas was voted out of the Prov . Grand Chapter to further endow the Grand Superintendent ' s chair , . Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , in commemoration of
the Centenary of that Institution . It was pointed out that the Prov . Grand Lodge had contributed 200 guineas to the Boys Institution . The hope was expressed that the Province of West Yorkshire would send up 5 , 000 guineas to the Festival on behalf of the Boys School , and already £ 4 , 603 had been subscribed , so that they only required £ 397 to complete the sum .
Comp . Richard Jackson , of Leeds , was elected Treasurer for the ensuing year . The Acting Grand Superintendent , before investing the Officers , paid a tribute to the services rendered by Comp . H .
Smith , who had held the office of Prov . G . H . for the past five years . He stated that Comp . Smith had been a subscribing member of one Chapter forty-four years , and of two other Chapters thirty-nine and thirty-five years respectively . He then proceeded to invest the following Officers for the ensuing

A QUARTERLY COMMUNICATION was held in the Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , on Thursday , 5 th inst .,
the Grand Master Lord Saltoun presiding . Charters were ordered to be issued to the following new Lodges : "Blue Fields , " at Blue Fields , Nicaragua ; and
" Gwelo , " at Gwelo , Rodesia . It was agreed that special collections in aid of the annuity fund be taken up in all Lodges under the Scottish Constitution in December 1898 and December 18 99 .
A vidimus of the accounts for the quarter ending 26 th April showed that the income had been £ 1 , 888 , being £ 756 more than the expenditure . Grants of £ 180 had been given from the Benevolence Fund to distressed Masons or widows of Masons .
The Grand Master unveiled a white marble bust of Past Grand Master Sir Charles Dalrymple , of New Hailes , Bart ., M . P ., the work of Brother W . Grant Stevenson , R . S . A ., and

a replica of the bust lately presented to Sir Charles and his family . It is a splendid likeness , and will , along with the busts of other Past Grand Masters , remain in the Great Hall . The Grand Master before calling on Bro . Stevenson to unveil the bust , made a graceful reference to Sir Charles ' s work on behalf of Masonry and the Grand Lodge .
The Past Grand Master , writing from the House of Commons Library , said that while thanking the Grand Lodge most heartily for this additional mark of their favour
he regarded it as no ordinary event that his bust should be set beside similar memorials of his predecessors in the chair of the Grand Lodge , whojn he regarded with respect and veneration .
The Grand Master next moved the adoption of a recommendation by the Grand Committee that on the occasion of the completion of twenty-one years service as Grand Secretary 100 guineas should be presented to Brother D . Murray Lyon as a mark of the respect of the Grand
Lodge of the way in which he had carried out the work of that office . Bro . Lyon , he said , had gained the confidence of every Grand Master and of the vast majority of Masons . A portion of the sum would be devo . ted to the purchase of a permanent souvenir which could be handed down from father
to son , and be a memorial of his work for a long period of years . The whole of the Grand Masters under whom Bro . Murray Lyon had served were alive except , alas , one , and as
a mark of respect they were to make him a present which he would very greatly regard . The motion was at once unanimously adopted . The other business was routine .
, The Brethren of Elms Lodge , No . 1212 at present meet at Home Park , Stoke , but they have resolved to move to fresh quarters . From next month they will share the Ebrington Masonic Hall , Granby Street , Devonport , where Fidelity , No . 230 , and the Fidelity Huyshe Mark Lodge , No . 91 , meet .

THE funeral of the unfortunate lad , whose tragic death at the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys we recorded last week , took place on Saturday , amid every evidence of respect and regard . The interment took place at Tottenham Cemetery , the service being conducted by the Head Master of the School , Bro . Rev . Harry Hebb , while the choir of the
Institution also took a prominent part . The first part of the proceedings took place in the Tottenham Parish Church , where were congregated the boys of the Institution , numbering upwards ot 200 , together with the relatives of the deceased lad , the various masters and others connected with
the Institution , making in all a large and devout congregation . During the period of waiting , several voluntaries were played . The funeral cortege left Suffolk Lodge , Lordship Lane , shortly after half-past two . Reaching the Church , the solemn procession wended its way up the nave , headed by the
Rev . H . Hebb , intoning the opening sentences of the Burial Service . Following him was borne the coffin , covered with a purple pall , behind which immediately came the deceased lad ' s mother , brothers and sisters , and others . After the lesson the procession was re-formed , the choir leading the
way . The two foremost boys carried baskets of choice flowers , which were afterwards strewn over the coffin . At the graveside all the boys were drawn up in a circle , inside
of which were the relations and friends , the assistant-masters , and the officiating clergyman . Bros . J . M . McLeod Sec , Stanley J . Attenborough Hon . Solicitor , and others officially represented the Institution .
THE funeral of Bro . Captain M . P . -S . Tozer , who died on Sunday morning , 1 st inst ., took place at Shirehampton churchyard . The service was conducted by the vicar , Rev . A . J . Harvey . The mourners who followed were
several sons and relatives , and in addition there was a large number present , including several Freemasons , the deceased having been a prominent member of the Craft in the district for some time past .
npHE Provincial Grand Master of Nottinghamshire , his _ L Grace the Duke of St . Albans died on Tuesday , 10 th inst ., after having suffered for a considerable time from an incurable malady . The late Duke was appointed to the charge of the Province in 1877 , and has been very popular among the Brethren of the Craft under his rule .
