M . Williams , and ho suggested thafc a voto of condolence should bo convoyed to Lady AVilliams afc the sad event . A unanimous expression of tho heartfelt approval of the brethren of his Lordship ' s suggestion was exhibited .

The P . M . G . also stated thafc tho portrait of their lato P . G . M ., Mr . Augustus Smith , presented by them to Mr . Dorrien-Smith as a memorial of the respect iu which his nuclo had been held by the brethren of the Province , had reached that gentleman , and bo read two letters from Mr . Dorrion-Smith , acknowledging the kindness and expressing his gratification at the kind remembrance in which

tho memory of his uncle was hold by tho brethren . The P . G . Treasurer reported a balance in hand of £ 101 10 s Gd , about the same sum as was in hand at the close of the previous year . The Secretary ' s report stated tho number of Lodges in tho Province to bo twenty . eight . During the past year the number of initiations bad been 110 , joining members 33 , members from previous year 1497

total 1640 ; againsfc for 1871—nnmber of initiations 119 , joining members 47 , members 1-180 , total 1676 ; decrease during tho year 36 . During the past year the returns of the attendance of P . M . 's of tho various Lodges eligible for office had come in much better than herotofore , but three Lodges had omitted to fulfil thafc duty , tho performance of which was essential in order to allow the " merits of any

brethren of the Lodges to come before the P . G . M . Both reports wore received and adopted . The brethren then proceeded iu procession , with bauds playing , aud banners displayed , to Fowey Church to attend divine service . The report of tho Cornwall Masonic Annuity and Benevolent Fund shewed donations and subscriptions for 1879 £ 149 17 s , againsfc £ 164 4 a 6 d for 1878 , a decrease of £ 14 7 s 6 d , which principally arose from the decease of the late D . P . G . M ., Sir F . M . AVilliams , who was a liberal contributor . Balance iu hand , up to 31 sfc December 1878 , £ 165 10 s 9 d , receipts from interest on stock and bonds £ 58 lis 7 d

Charities on behalf of the Province , was read . Bro . Hughan was unable to attend . The failure in obtaining the election of the candidate from Fowey to the Girls' School , ifc stated , had arisen from the Boys ' votes nofc being exchangeable on the day of election , an unusual circumstance . Ifc was , however , hoped thafc tho Province would bo

successful in October . It recommended votes of twenty guineas each to the Girls' School , and Aged Freemasons' Institution . Bro . Hughan concluded by submitting the resignation of his office of managing the votes . After services of ten years , he said , be shonld esteem it a favour to be relieved .

The report was received and adopted . The resignation of Bro . Hughan was unanimously disapproved of , and tho matter was left with the P . G . M . to endeavour to reconcile thafc brother to a further service . The voting on the proposed grants resulted in a vote of £ 15 per annum for five years to the sou of Bro . Barrett , and £ 10 to a

brother of No . 331 . AV . Bro . Emra Holmes brought forward his proposition to appoint a committee to solicit subscriptions towards tho erection of tbo Proposed Truro Cathedral ; Devon to be invited to assist , aucl the money to be expended in somo feature of tho Cathedral to bo a lasting memorial of the Freemasons of Devon and Cornwall . He showed that similar steps had been carried out by tho Freemasons in several

other provinces . AV . Bro . John Thomas rose to propose an amendment , and thero appearing to be sufficient opposition to the measure to lead to a long discussion , at the recommendation of the P . G . M . tho matter was for the present postponed . Bro . Holmes gavo notice that ho should revive the proposition at the next annual meeting , and hoped , for the credit of the province , thafc ifc would bo continued to be urged until it was carried .
