vote of thanks be accorded fco the late Deputy Prov . Graud Master for the services he had rendered to the Province during the past twelve years . Bro . George Abbott , as one of the first Officers of the Province , seconded the motion , which was carried unanimously .

Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn briefly replied . He again thanked the Brethren for all the kindness he had received at their hands , and assured Sir Francis Boileau that he should afc all times be most happy to do all that he could to assist him in the discharge of his duties .

Lord Henniker , in his address to the Brethren , said he thought they might congratulate themselves on the fact that during the twelve years the Province of East Anglia had been established they had been holding their own very well ; and considering that they were to a very

large extent in a purely agricultural district he thought they might say they were in a flourishing condition . In the name of the Prov . Grand Lodge he thanked Bro . Turner and the members of the Constantine Lodge for

the handsome and liberal manner in which they had entertained them . . Lord Henniker , in conclusion , asked the Brethren to excuse his attendance at the banquet , over which he had asked tho Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . Sir Francis Boileau to preside .

The Banquet was also held at the Cups Hotel , where the hospitality of the Brethren of the Constantine Lodge was dispensed on a most generous scale . The Rev . C . J . Martyn proposed the health of the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and said all he need ask

on his behalf was that they would extend to Sir Francis Boileau the same kindness as they had always extended to him . He was perfectly certain that the more they

saw of their new D . P . G . M . the more they would esteem and love him . He had known his work in Masonry for many years , and he was perfectly sure they had the right man in the right place .

Sir Francis Boileau , in reply , said it was with the greatest reluctance that he accepted the high office that had been conferred upon him , but having accepted it , he should endeavour to carry out the duties to the best of

his ability . Before sitting down he , in highly complimentary terms , proposed the health of Bro .- Martyn , who happily responded with a " Thank you—God bless you all . " Other toasts followed .

The Derbyshire District.

THE DERBYSHIRE DISTRICT .

THE anniversary of the Derby Lodge of Mark Master Masons , No . 302 , was held on fche 9 th , afc the Masonic Hall , Derby , and in connection therewith was held the Provincial Grand Lodge of the United Province of Derbyshire , Leicestershire , Northamptonshire and Rutlandshire . '

The members of the local Lodge met at three o ' clock , and discharged the business incidental to the anniversary . The W . M . elecfc was Bro . William Cooper , who was

installed in office by his predecessor in tho chair , Bro . W . Beadon Woodforde , assisted by Bros . Piper and Wallace Past Masters . Bro . Cooper regularly appointed his Officers .

Subsequently the Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge were admitted . In the absence of the Provincial Grand Master Bro . W . Kelly , of Leicester , his Depufcy Bro . Thos . Cox , of Derby , presided , the position of Deputy Grand Master being filled by Bro . Joseph Young , of Leicester .

Various matters of interest were discussed , amongst other subjects being the separation of Derbyshire from the other counties , and its constitution as a separate

Province . A letter was read on this subject from Bro . Kelly , in which he intimated that he was fully prepared to give his consent to any such departure as the one suggested .

It being indicated that Bro . the Rev . S . Watkin Wigg had resigned the position of Senior Grand Warden , it was resolved that he be thanked for his five years ' influential services , and also thafc he be presented with a Past Provincial Grand Secretary ' s jewel .

The following Provincial Grand appointments were then made , the different Officers being regularly invested with their insignia of office : —

At the Quarterly Court of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , held yesterday , the roll of candidates for the October election was settled , with forty-four children to go to the poll , the number of vacancies being declared as seventeen .

The Annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Essex will be held on Wednesday next , at Kelvedon , the meeting being called for 1 * 30 p . m . A banquet will be afterwards served at Brunswick House , at 4 o ' clock .

o o o The Charles Edward Keyser Lodge was consecrated on Thursday , at Hoddesdon , the Provincial Grand Master of Hertfordshire , Bro . T . F . Halsey , M . P ., officiating . Bro . C . E . Keyser P . G . D ., after whom the Lodge is named , was installed as the first Master . o o o

Bro . J . E . Shand P . M . 1563 and P . Z . 25 has just been appointed , and approved by the Registrar General , aa a Registrar of Marriages for St . Margaret and St . John , Westminster , and district of St . George , Hanover Square , including Knightsbridgo , and extending west as far as Kensington Palace .

o o o The Installation meeting of the Camden Lodge , No 704 , will be held on Tuesday next , the 17 th , afc Ander

ton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , at 4 o ' clock , when Bro . A . A . Nottingham will be installed Worshipful Master . We hope to give a report in our nexfc issue .

O 0 o The regular meeting of the Upton Lodge , No . 1227 , will be held at the Three Nuns Hotel , Aldgate , on Thursday next , 19 fch insfc ., at 4 o ' clock , under the

presidency of Bro . Charles Schmidt Worshipful Master . The business on the Agenda includes a Raising , Passing , and two Initiations , the election of Worshipful Master , Treasurer , and Tyler for the ensuing year , and the appointment of Auditors .

o o o - The present is an age of contested elections . Even in the fraternity of Freemasonry , where all is supposed to be " peace , unanimity , and concord , " there is an

annual excitement over the popular election of Grand Treasurer ; and although this does uot take place till some nine months hence , it is already announced that

Alderman Walter Vaughan Morgan , who is Treasurer of Christ ' s Hospital , and a donation governor of many other London hospitals , will be then a candidate . — " World . "

o 0 o After providing for fche amortization of leases , depreciation of plant , sinking fund for the redemption of Debentures and the payment of Debenture Interest , the report of Spiers and Pond

Limited recommends the payment of a dividend of 10 per cent ., less income tax , for the year ending the Sfsfc March 1894 , leaving £ 5 , 332 15 s 3 d to be carried forward to next year . The Warrants were to bo posted after the shareholders' meeting , held on the 9 th mat .
