In proposing the health of

the Past Masters , the W . M . regretted the absence of Bro . W . C . Parsons , but they had with them their first Master and now their Treasurer , Bro . Louis Beok . Bro . L . Beck , iu responding , explained how the Lodge had been honoured by the Most Worshipful Grand Master ' s allowing it to be designated by one of his titles—Duke of Rothesay ; this was further evidenced by his banner being placed

over the chair of the W . M . He thanked all for the kind way they had received him . The toast of the Wardens followed , the W . M . remarking that the attention which they had paid to their duties merited especial praise . Bro . Crossland , the S . W ., had travelled specially from Huddersfield to be present . Bro . Duret had also come a long distanoe ; he was their first initiate . They were proud of the

brethren who filled the several posts of honour . Bro . Crossland S . W . said that , as far as good intent goes , his heart was with them , and what ability he possessed would be at their service . Bro . Duret J . W . followed . As the first initiate he was prond to be placed as J . W . ; he would strive to do all he could to further the interests of the

LONDON COTTAGE MISSION . — " How it has been snowing ! " said paterfamilias , as he drew up the blinds of his bedroom window on Wednesday morning , for the bri g ht white mantle lay some inches thick in every part of the Metropolis . What must this have been for poor creatures who , without food or fire , crouched together to retain just warmth enough to keep body and soul together in their

shivering frames ? An answer to this question was to be found outside the gates of the London Cottage Mission , in Conder-street , Limehouse , where some six or seven hundred children , with women , here and there with babies in their arms , were congregated . But once inside , and seated 200 at a time at the hospitable boards of the Mission , there was as much good hot Irish stew for them as hungry

children could desire . The London Cottage Mission provided a similar meal for the poor children at the East-end all through last winter , and also during this winter , since the 8 th December last , every Wednesday . This practical charity costs money , and we need scarcely say the Mission wants funds to carry on the work ; for besides feeding the hungry , there is a reading-room for working

men , lectures and services in the hall , mothers' meetings , and house to house visitation . We heartily commend the Mission to all our readers , and if they will send their contributions , however small , to Miss F . Napton , the Lady Superintendent , 304 Burdett-road , Limehouse , E ., or to Mr . Walter Austin , 44 Finsbury Pavement , E . C , they will be thankfully received and acknowledged .
