INSTALLATION MEETINGS , & c .

ST . JAMES'S UNION LODGE , NO . 180 . THE installation meeting was held on the 11 th inst ., at tho Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street . Bro . E . Farwig P . M . in the absence of the W . M . occupied the chair , Bros . 0 . J . Wade S . W ., Fletcher J . W ., Robinson P . M . Treas ., W . C . Parsons P . M . Sec , Wood P . M . S . D ., Baker J . D ., Maxted I . G . ; P . M . 's L . Herf , Stonor , Cameron , Pillin . The Lodge was formally opened , and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . Bro . Sykes answered the usual

questions in a satisfactory manner and was raised by the acting W . M . Each Officer showed himself capable of performing his duties . The report of the Audit Committee was read ; ib showed the Lodge was in a flourishing state . The balance in hand for the Benevolent Fnnd was £ 171 7 s lid . A Board of Installed Masters was opened , and Bro . C . J . Wade S . W . and W . M . elect was presented and duly installed into

the chair by Bro . E . Farwig . There were 18 W . M . s and P . M . 's present . On the readmission of the brethren , the W . M . was regularly saluted , and he appointed and invested his Officers : —Bros . Stonor P . M . as I . P . M ., Fletcher S . W ., Wood J . W ., J . Miles Treasurer , W . C . Parsons P . M . Sec , W . H . Baker S . D ., Maxted J . D . Chester I . G ., E . Farwig P . M . D . C ., L . Herf P . M ., W . S . Denne A . W . S ., Gilbert

Prov . G . T . Middlesex Tyler . The selection made by the W . M . seemed eminently satisfactory to the Lodge . Bro . Levitt was elected a country member . A letter was read from the I . P . M . regretting his inability to be present . The widow of a deceased brother was relieved , the sum of £ 10 being voted from the Lodge Benevolent fund . Bro . E . Farwig P . M . stated he was pleased to say he would

represent tho Lodge as Steward at the Annual Festival for Boys , and Bro . Miles Treas . proposed the sum of £ 10 108 be placed on his list . This proposition was carried , and then Lodge was closed . The brethren adjourned to the Crown room , where a sumptuous banquet and dessert was provided by Bro . A . Best , served by Bro . Dawkins . Grace having been sung , the W . M ., in genial terms , proposed the

toast of the Queen and the Craft . The National Anthem was then given , Miss Winifred Leigh singing the solo verses . The toast of H . E . H . The M . W . G . M . The Prince of Wales followed , and then the Pro G . M . and the E . W . the Deputy G . M . the Earl of Lathom were honoured , the W . M . regretting there were no Grand Officers present to respond . After a song by Bro . Arthur Thomas , Bro . Stonor P . M .

rose . The W . M . had passed the gavel to him . He should commence his remarks by saying bow creditably Bro . Wade had performed every dnty required of him in the several offices he had held . These duties had been so admirably fulfilled that the brethren were warranted in electing him W . M ., and he ( Bro . Stonor ) could predict that under his auspices a good and prosperous year would

result . Miss Winifred Leigh here favoured the brethren with a song , in which she was accompanied by Bro . Kift . The W . M ., in reply , had to thank the brethren for the reception they had given him . tho words of the song they had just listened to— " When the heart is young " —were appropriate . When he was installed he had remarked that he would be proud to be Master of a Lodge ; he had attained

that position , thanks to the confidence the members reposed in him . He could assure them that the same way in which he had filled the minor offices , so he hoped to fill the exalted position of W . M . He fully appreciated the unanimous vote by which the brethren had placed him in the chair—he would strive to do the work to their satisfaction , and when he vacated it , he hoped it would be with the same

good feeling as now pervaded the Lodge . The W . M . next proposed the health of the Visitors , and called on Bros . Sir Edward Lee No . 833 , Baker 188 , Tbomps and Docker . After these brethren had suitably acknowledged the compliment , the W . M . proposed the health of the Installing Master Bro . Farwig . Those who had the pleasure of seeing him take the chair and raise the candidate , and afterwards

instal tho Worshipful Master , must have been gratified . Bro . Farwig was well known at Lodges of Instruction . He ( the Worshipfnl Master ) had to thank him for the knowledge he had acquired , which had enabled him to perform the duties of the chair . Without further remarks he would call on the brethren to drink tho toast . Bros . Arthur Thomas and Cantle here sang , " The Moon hath raised her

Lamp ; " and then Bro . Farwig P . M ., in eloquent terms , responded . The Past Masters were next honoured , special mention being made of the zeal displayed by them , the W . M . remarking that without them the Lodge could not carry on its duties . Bro . Miles , who had that evening been invested with the collar of Treasurer , was the oldest member of the Lodge , and had done good service . All knew the

qualifications of the worthy Secretary , Bro . Parsons . Other of the Past Masters have been well tried , and during his year of office he was sure he could look to them for assistance if he required it . Bro . Pillon responded to this toast , and he was followed by several others . The Wardens and Junior Officers were not overlooked , the W . M . expressing his confidence in the ability each would display for the advantage of the Lodge and its members . In due course the

THE ceremony of installing the W . M . of this Lodge for the en . suing year took place at the Red Lion Hotel , Fareham , on Thursday evening , 6 th inst . The choice of the Lodge had fallen unanimously upon Bro . the Rev . A . Arthur Headley P . G . Chaplain Hants and Isle of Wight , who , during the previous year , had filled the office of S . W . The ceremony of installation was performed ,

according to ancient custom , by Bro . Arthur R . Holbrook , the retiring W . M ., and at the conclusion the Officers for the year ensuing were appointed and invested in the following order : —Bros . Heath ) , in the name of the Lodge , a very handsome jewel , in recognition of the ability with which he had fulfilled his duty as Hon . Secretary to the Lodge for many years . It was resolved , on the

motion of Bro . J . Taylor P . M ., that the thanks of the Lodge , together with a P . M . 's jewel , be presented to Bro . A . R . Holbrook , the retiring W . M ., for the manner in which he had carried out bis duties during the year and the ceremony of installation that evening . After the business the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , provided by the Misses White .

THE installation meeting was held on the 6 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street . Bros . T . W . Cooper W . M ., E . Child S . W ., E . Humphreys J . W ., J . Kench G . P . Treasurer , J . B . Sly P . M . Secretary , Swears S . D ., J . Skinner J . D ., Bowman I . G ., M . Powis Bale Organist j P . M . 's J . Quitman , Wolters , Langdon , and C . Burmeister . The Lodge was opened and the minutes were confirmed . Bro . Schlaepper was passed to the second degree . A

ballot was taken for Mr . W . C . Burt , as a candidate for initiation . It was unanimous in his favour , and he was duly initiated into the mysteries of the Order . Both ceremonies were perfectly and impressively rendered by the W . M . Bro . Pfister , of the Burgoyne Lodge , was elected a joining member . The report of the Audit Committee was read and adopted ; it showed the Lodge was in a

flourishing state . A board of Installed Masters was opened , and Bro . E . Child S . W . and W . M . elect was presented and duly installed into tho chair by Bro . James Kench P . M . G . P . At the conclusion of the ceremony Bro . Kench was warmly congratulated by the brethren and visitors . After the customary salutations , the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers—T . W . Cooper , with an elegant jewel , with suitable inscription , for the able and efficient manner in which he had discharged the duties

of Master during his year of office , and in token of the regard and esteem in which he was held by the members . The W . M ., in presenting the jewel , hoped Bro . Cooper might live for many years to wear it , as a Past Master of the Lodge . After Bro . Cooper had acknowledged and thanked the brethren for their valuable gift , Lodge was closed . The banquet was admirably served by Bro . Alfred Best , and the brethren did ample justice to the good things

provided . On the removal of the cloth , the Loyal toasts were given , and the brethren paid them full honour . With that of the Grand Officers of the Grand Lodge of England , the W . M . coupled the name of a Past Master of the Lodge , who is Grand Pursuivant of the year . The Lodge was also honoured with the presence of a visitor , Bro . Wilson P . G . P ., whom the members were all pleased to see among them . Bros . Kench and Wilson responded . After a

THE ceremony of installing the W . M . of this Lodge for the en . suing year took place at the Red Lion Hotel , Fareham , on Thursday evening , 6 th inst . The choice of the Lodge had fallen unanimously upon Bro . the Rev . A . Arthur Headley P . G . Chaplain Hants and Isle of Wight , who , during the previous year , had filled the office of S . W . The ceremony of installation was performed ,

according to ancient custom , by Bro . Arthur R . Holbrook , the retiring W . M ., and at the conclusion the Officers for the year ensuing were appointed and invested in the following order : —Bros . Heath ) , in the name of the Lodge , a very handsome jewel , in recognition of the ability with which he had fulfilled his duty as Hon . Secretary to the Lodge for many years . It was resolved , on the

motion of Bro . J . Taylor P . M ., that the thanks of the Lodge , together with a P . M . 's jewel , be presented to Bro . A . R . Holbrook , the retiring W . M ., for the manner in which he had carried out bis duties during the year and the ceremony of installation that evening . After the business the brethren adjourned to an excellent banquet , provided by the Misses White .

THE installation meeting was held on the 6 th inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street . Bros . T . W . Cooper W . M ., E . Child S . W ., E . Humphreys J . W ., J . Kench G . P . Treasurer , J . B . Sly P . M . Secretary , Swears S . D ., J . Skinner J . D ., Bowman I . G ., M . Powis Bale Organist j P . M . 's J . Quitman , Wolters , Langdon , and C . Burmeister . The Lodge was opened and the minutes were confirmed . Bro . Schlaepper was passed to the second degree . A

ballot was taken for Mr . W . C . Burt , as a candidate for initiation . It was unanimous in his favour , and he was duly initiated into the mysteries of the Order . Both ceremonies were perfectly and impressively rendered by the W . M . Bro . Pfister , of the Burgoyne Lodge , was elected a joining member . The report of the Audit Committee was read and adopted ; it showed the Lodge was in a

flourishing state . A board of Installed Masters was opened , and Bro . E . Child S . W . and W . M . elect was presented and duly installed into tho chair by Bro . James Kench P . M . G . P . At the conclusion of the ceremony Bro . Kench was warmly congratulated by the brethren and visitors . After the customary salutations , the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers—T . W . Cooper , with an elegant jewel , with suitable inscription , for the able and efficient manner in which he had discharged the duties

of Master during his year of office , and in token of the regard and esteem in which he was held by the members . The W . M ., in presenting the jewel , hoped Bro . Cooper might live for many years to wear it , as a Past Master of the Lodge . After Bro . Cooper had acknowledged and thanked the brethren for their valuable gift , Lodge was closed . The banquet was admirably served by Bro . Alfred Best , and the brethren did ample justice to the good things

provided . On the removal of the cloth , the Loyal toasts were given , and the brethren paid them full honour . With that of the Grand Officers of the Grand Lodge of England , the W . M . coupled the name of a Past Master of the Lodge , who is Grand Pursuivant of the year . The Lodge was also honoured with the presence of a visitor , Bro . Wilson P . G . P ., whom the members were all pleased to see among them . Bros . Kench and Wilson responded . After a
