All the three Charities were represented that evening by their Secretaries , and he pointed to the Masonio Benevolent Institution , at Croydon , as an example of how happy and comfortable Masons could rnuko their annuitants . The Lord Mayor would preside at the Festival of this

James Terry , Secretary of the Royal Masonic Institution , replied to the toast . Perhaps this meeting was the most important that had over taken place within the walls of the Mansion House , and it was to the toast of the Masonic Institutions that he had to respond . When
they remembered that the Worshipful Master of this Lodge had consented to preside over the destinies of tho Masonio Benevolent Institution at its Festival for the current year , he hoped that if there were any persons in the assembly who had not made up their minds to support that Institution , they should remember they could not have a better opportunity than the present of giving to tho Lord Mayor their contributions to swell the total of his list . They knew the
Mansion House was the means of receiving largo sums for tho purposes of distribution in benevolence , and ho thought it would be a very good thing for them to pay the Lord Mayor the compliment of contributing largely in support of his Chairmanship for tho Masonic Benevolent Institution . He could assure them tho donations would bo thankfully received and faithfully applied . The Tyler ' s toast was next given , after which an enjoyable concert was provided . —Qity Press .

The draft annual report of the institution , which voluntarily undertakes the education , clothing , maintenance , and advancement in life of the children of distressed aud deceased Freemasons , read by Bro . Captain Maonab , was as follows : —
" At tho close of another year , your committee again feel thankful at being in a position to present a report exhibiting more than usual prosperity and usefulness . The gross income of the institution , from nil sources , as disclosed by the Treasurer ' s statement of accounts for the year ending 31 st December 1889 , amounted to £ 2460 18 s , being an increase of nearly £ 600 over that of Inst year . Of this total ,
£ 1495 5 s 8 d was derived from donations and subscriptions , £ 725 6 s Id from interest ou invested capital , and £ 240 6 s 3 d from the annual bull . It is pleasing to noto that tho wave of marked prosperity which has been passing over our land for tho past year or so has left its impress upon tho funds of this noble charity , but it must be borne in mind that a substantial addition to tho funded capital will soon be
needed to maintain the income from that source at even its present level , owing to the fact that the next expiring bonds will , on renewal , yield a much smaller rate of interest from the decreased value of money . Wo are pleased to seo that our prediction as to the anticipated liberality of our younger Lodges has been amply verified , and that our oldest , as well as our rery young Lodge . The number of applicants whose petitions wore found iu order wore 34 , everyone of whom was placed on tho foundation , whilst 35 wont off , leaving , at the closing date , 221 children entitled to the benefits of the institution . We would also ask your special attention to the smallness of our working expenses this year , for which we venture to

Special notice deserves to be drawn to the thoughtful liberality of onr late lamented
Bro . Crossley , of Lindtay Lodge , 1335 , Wigan , under whose will the Institution has benefited to the extent of £ 320 . Charitable acts of this nature are certain of reward , and say to every man whom God bus prospered , " Go , thon , aud do likewise . " Our duties in preparing this report being ended , we desire to express our thanks to the Almighty for the good work Ho
