Early m the week the Prince of Wales , who paid a visit to the Cattle Show on Monday , in company with the Crown Prince of Hanover , went clown to Ashford House , Kent , the seat of his brother , the Duko of Edinburgh , for a few clays' shooting . The Cattle Show has attracted its thousands of visitors

during the week . The early part of Monday was devoted to the judging , and in the afternoon those of the public who cared to pay the sum of five shillings were admitted . Since then a shilling has sufficed , and the number of visitors on the very first of these days was over 28 , 000 , while the

crowds appeared to have been as great on each ot the following days . The Champion Plate , given by the Agricultural Hall Co . Limited , for tho best beast in the show , was awarded to Mr . N . Catchpole for his Pride of Thorndale second , which took the first prize of £ 20 in class 14 for

shorthorned heifers not exceeding ioitr years old , the silver cup value £ 50 for the best heifer , and the Silver Breed Cup of £ 40 for the best animal of the breed . Pie was , however , very closely ran by His Royal Highness

the Prince ot Wales s Devon steer , which was adjudged the first prize of £ 25 in its class , and also the silver breed cup value £ 40 , for the best Devon , as well as the £ 50 for the best steer or ox in the different classes . The

Prince also carried off a second prize of £ 15 in class 12 , for shorthorned steers not exceeding three years and three months , and a second prize in class 3 , Devon steers or oxen above two years three months and under four years six months , aud was highly commended in class 1 . The Queen

was highly commenclecL in class o tor riereiord steers , and carried off the first prize for Hereford steers in class 7 , and the first in class 32 . Her Majesty ' s exhibits in the pigs ' classes received no awards . Among the other principal prize winners were Mr . Henry Page , of Walmcr , and' the

Earl of Powies m the Hereford classes , Mr . Alfred Agate , of Horsham in the Sussex classes , Mr . J . J . Colman , M . P ., in the Norfolk and Suffolk , Sir W . G . Gr . dimming and Sir W . C . Trevelyan in the Scotch Highland breed , Mr . R . Jardine and Sir W . Camming in the Scotch polled ,

Several speeches have been mado this week by leading politicians , the most important being tho . « e of Mr . Gathorne Hardy at Edinburgh , Lord John Manners ' ' at Grantham , and the Solicitor General at Oldham . Mr . Hardy referred as a matter of course to tho Eastern
