New Devon Lodges.

NEW DEVON LODGES .

MASONIC Lodges continue to increase under the Grand Mastership of the Prince of Wales , the rule of his Eoyal Highness being most popular . Already an addition to the roll of Devon has been made by the constitution of Trinity Lodge , No . 2595 , Buckfastleigh , and since then another has been granted for Dartmouth . The new Lodge is to be named the Dart , and

its number on the register is fixed as 2641 , so that since the issue of No . 2595 , in 1896 , nearly fifty Lodges have been chartered by the Grand Lodge of England . There is a Lodge at Dartmouth , the Hauley , No . 797 , which has been working since 1859 , and has long been prosperous and united . It is also proposed to

start a new Lodge in Exeter , a preliminary meeting lately held resulting in the promise of considerable help for . the project , which has the support of many zealous and distinguished Brethren . There are three Lodges already held in the city , the John the Baptist , No . 39 , with its original authority of A . D .

1732 ; St . George ' s , No . 112 , warranted in 1762 ; and the Semper Fidelis , No . 1254 , chartered in 1869 . These have been , and are , so successful that for young members there is no opportunity for work and office ; hence one or more additional Lodges is a necessity . The old Lodges cannot possibly suffer ,

and it will be to the advantage of the Craft to thus increase the facilities for office , and promote the best interests of the fraternity . The wish of the petitioners is to strengthen the society , and in no sense to be a rival of the older organisations of the Craft in the City of Exeter . — " Western Morning News . "

The annual meeting of the Confidence Lodge , No . 193 , was held on Monday , at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet Street , when Bro . T . Kington was installed into the chair by his predecessor Bro . F . S . Plowright . We shaJl give a full report in our next issue .
