New Cross Lodge. No. 1559.
and Bro . Woods was examined and entrusted . Lodge was' opened in the third degree , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed . The Lodge was again resumed to the first degree . ^ . Bro . Graham Preceptor said he had much pleasure * in proposing Bro . Busby , the W . M . of the Mother Lodge , as a member ,
and that Brother having been elected returned his thanks . He said he should endeavour to attend the Lodge of Instruction as often as business would allow , and assured them it was a great pleasure to him to be among the members of the New Cross Lodge of Instruction .
Bro . Graham said it was a greater pleasure and an honour for them to see the W . M . of the Mother Lodge at their meeting , and he hoped they would often enjoy a jike satisfaction . He also proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be passed , and recorded on the ' minutes for the W . M . ' s very able and splendid rehearsal of the installation ceremony and the third degree . It had really been
most satisfactory . Bro . Swash P . M . seconded this and it was agreed to . Bro . Busby W . M . acknowledged the compliment , sincerely thanking the Brethren for their appreciation . He had had the honour of presiding for two years over the Mother Lodge , and felt it was entirely due to his having attended Lodges of Instruction that he had been able to qualify himself for the chair . He strongly urged younger members to attend regularly .
Bro . Firminger thanked the W . M . and Brethren for allowing his to rehearse the investiture of Officers , in preparation for that duty which would devolve upon him in the Mother Lodge . The working of the W . M . in that Lodge was grand and impressive ; he never required any assistance ; and he could only hope that
he would be able to carry out the duties of the chair half as well as Bro . Busby had done during the last two years . He knew that in undertaking the Office of Master he had assumed a great responsibility , but he felt he had a very good supporter in Bro . Busby as his I . P . M . Bro . Lewis , Lake was elected to preside at the next meeting .

Williams P . M . S . D ., W . Atkinson J . D ., John H . Gumming P . M . I . G ., K . M . Ross , W . T . Hodgson W . M . 2090 , and T . Harrington P . M .
After , the opening of the Lodge and confirmation of the minutes , the Lodge was advanced to the second degree , and Bro . Hodgson having been examined was entrusted . After the Lodge had been opened in the third degree he acted as candidate during the rehearsal of the raising ceremony .
Bro . H . S . Seal W . M . 933 was elected a member . Bro . H . J . Cousens P . M . of the Old Concord Lodge was elected to the Chak for to-day ( Saturday ) , and as Bro . Cousens is well known for the brilliant and careful manner in which he renders the ritual we may anticipate he will have a numerous attendance .
Earl's Court Lodge , No . 2 7 65 . THE well appointed quarters of this Lodge of Instruction , at the Greyhound Hotel , Kensington , W ., were well attended on Thursday , 7 th inst . Bro . T . W . Leete W . M . appointed his Officers as follow : G . W . Hatt P . M . S . W ., W . Tod Lewis J . W . John
, Worth P . M . Prec , Albert J . Taylor Sec , Joseph Cox P . M . S . D ., S . Mussell J . D ., Joseph Hallam I . G . There were also present Bros . John H . Gumming P . M . 534 , Geo . Kirkham P . M . Christopher Lodge , H . G . Cox , T . Stovold . M . Smethurst , T . Heath , I . G . Stovold , and Geo . Stevenson .
Lodge was opened in the first and second degrees , and Bro . H . G . Stovold .
Bro . Hatt S . W . was appointed to act as W . M . at the next meeting , and as Bro . Hatt has been Master of a Provincial Lodge , ¦ and holds high Provincial rank , many Brethren will doubtless avail themselves of the opportunity of hearing his excellent rendering of the ritual . Bro .. Leete was complimented on the first class manner in which he had carried out his duties as W . M . during the evening . Bros . Heath , Stevenson , and Kirkham were elected members .
ENTERTAINMENT NOTES . Lyric . —Several attractive additions in the shape of song and dance have been introduced into " Florodora " this week , but chief of all was the return from his American experiences of Mr . Willie Edouin , who met with a most enthusiastic reception on his re-appearance . Fortunately , he happened to be in his most droll vein , and
as the charlatan phrenologist Tweedlepunch is a part which allows him full scope for display of his peculiar humour , the evening proved a merry one for all concerned . In the matter of new songs , one falls to the lot of Miss Phyllis Rankin , "Why they sigh "; another to Miss Nancy Girling , " I don ' t know any better '; and there is a trio , which affords Mr . Edouin , in conjunction with
Miss Florence St . John and Mr . Louis Bradfield , an opportunity of giving a most comical burlesque of a minstrel Parisien . All three songs have been written by Mr . J . W . Houghton , while Mr . Landon Ronald has , in each instance , set them to light and tuneful airs . Signs are evident that this bri g ht and amusing musical play is far from yet exhausting its popularity , and Mr . Edouin ' s return gives it a new lease of life .
Haymarket . —We are pleased to hear that " The second in command" is attracting good business at this house . The demand for seats is enormous , the audience overflowing at every performance . Country Lodgings —The Great Northern Railway Company have again arranged with Mr . Walter Hill , of 71 Southampton Row , London , W . C , to prepare and print for the Company
a list of Seaside , Farmhouse , and Country Lodgings and Hotels and Boarding Houses in the vicinity of Great Northern Stations , so that the travelling public may have the means of ascertaining what lodgings of this description are available . The Station Masters at the various Great Northern Stations are collecting the necessary information , and the book will be published early in the spring .
