NORFOLK .
BY cemmand of the Provincial Grand Master Bro . Hamon le Strange P . G . D . Eng . a special Provincial Grand Lodge was held " on Saturday afterrioon , at the rooms of the
Masonic Association , 47 St . Giles ' s Street , Norwich , to consider and resolve upon an address of condolence with his Majesty the King and Royal Family on the decease of her late Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria .
.. There wasi a- large attendance of the Brethren- and rail-Lodges in the Province were fully represented . The Prov . Grand Master presided , and was supported by his Deputy Bro . PL J . Sparkes , and leaders in the Craft from all parts of the Province .
Bro . Hamon le Strange reminded the Brethren that it had been the mournful duty of Norfolk Masons to meet in February 1892 , to give voice to expressions of sympathy on the death of the Duke of Clarence . On the present occasion they had gathered together to offer sincere condolences to the
Royal family on the demise of the beloved Queen . It was hardly possible to recognise the full measure of the loss which had fallen upon the country . Amid an unprecedented and universal mourning it was some solace and satisfaction to notice the vast tide of sympathy which had flown in not only
from every corner of the United Kingdom , but also from the Greater Britain beyond the seas , and from every organised government in both hemispheres . It was no mere form of words to say that the late beloved Queen Victoria had done everything to render herself a true mother to her
people . Masons were on firmer ground when , as a circumstance arising out of the late sorrowful occurrence , they congratulated King Edward VII , who for twenty-six years had
so splendidly exercised the powers and attributes of the Grand Master of the Order . In Norfolk they had every reason to ; be grateful for the personal share his Majesty ' had graciously ' taken in local Masonic ceremonies .
The Prov . Grand Master then moved that an address of condolence should be sent to his Majesty , and the D . Prov . G . M ., in seconding the resolution , remarked that during her life the Queen had been loved and honoured , and all would mourn her death and revere her memory .
The Brethren rose , and in silence assented to the address , which expressed heartfelt condolence , and hearty congratulations upon the accession of his Majesty , in the following terms : '
TO THE KING'S MOST EXCELLENT MAJESTY . MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGNWe , your Majesty ' s dutiful and faithful servants , the Prov . Grand Master , Officers , and Brethren of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Province of Norfolk , with all humility and respect approach your Majesty for the double purpose of expressing our heartfelt condolences on the demise of our late beloved Sovereign ,
