her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria , and of offering our loyal homage to your Majesty on accession to the throne of this realm . In common with all subjects of her late Majesty we deeply deplore the loss of a Sovereign who for upwards of two generations has in every way promoted the well being of those over whom her

beneficent rule extended ; we desire humbly to express our . earnest sympathy with your Majesty and the whole of the Royal Family at this hour of bereavement , and at the same time to convey the assurance of sincere devotion which in an especial degree we feel as Freemasons of a Province that has in recent years received so

many gracious proofs of your Majesty ' s Royal favour . We respectfully desire to be allowed to join in the universal sympathy manifested in every part of the Empire , and to lay at your Majesty's feet the expression of our unutterable attachment to your Majesty ' s Royal Throne and Person .

Given in Provincial Grand Lodge , assembled at Norwich , this qth day of February IQOI .

The Drury Lane Lodge held its installation meeting on Tuesday , when over a hundred Brethren attended . Bro . Lionel Rignold W . M . presided and proposed a vote of condolence with his Majesty the King on the death of Queen Victoria ,. and , the vote having been seconded by Bro . Gerald

Maxwell P . M :, was passed in solemn silence , Bro . Wilhelm Ganz P . G . O . playing the Dead March . Bro . Plarry Nicholls installed Bro . John H . Barnes as the new occupant of King Solomon ' s Drury Lane chair , and to Bro . Rignold a handsome Past Master ' s jewel was presented . After the Officers

for the new year had been appointed , and the installation ceremony had been completed , Earl Roberts was elected an honorary member of the Lodge on the motion of Brother Barnes , seconded by Bro . Thomas Catling P . M . and Treas . Plis lordship , although he had declined the invitation to dine

with the Brethren , on the ground that the war was not yet concluded , had consented to become a member . Lord Kitchener is one of the founders . Many admirable speeches were delivered at the banquet which followed the installation meeting , the company present including Bros . Oscar

Barrett , Lionel Broufjh , H . Campbell , Sir H . Isaacs , Gilbert Farquhar , James Fernandez , M . Jacobi , Imre Kiralfy , Luigi Lablache , F . H . Macklin , Courtice Pounds , and Dr . Robson Roose . Under the direction of Bro . Wilhelm Ganz , Bros . Avon-Saxon ; Richard Green , ' Senor Guetary ; ¦ George -Miiller , and others contributed to the enjoyment of . the company .

We recently received a copy of the summons for the 117 th annual meeting of the Pollockshaws Royal Arch Lodge , No . 153 ( S . C . ) , from which we learn that 1900 was a record year in the history of that ancient Lodge . During the year there were twenty-eight meetings , with a total attendance

of 1 , 688 , giving an average of sixty for each meeting ; and there were fifty-one initiates ( the largest number ever had in a single year ) . The Lodge has been closely associated with the war in South Africa , serveral of the melmbers having left for active service . Last March tne late Treasurer

was presented with a handsome gold watch , with a gold guard for his wife , in recognition of nineteen years faithful service to the Lodge . There are two or three items in the report which may read strange to English Brethren , as

for instance , the announcement that forty-two Brethren have taken out Life Membership Tickets . The annual " Test Fee " is put down at 3 s 6 d , that for Life Membership being £ 1 10 s .

* * Writing in regard to the Especial Grand Lodge , the London correspondent of the '' . Birmingham Daily Post " said : It would give everyone much pleasure to see the , senior Provincial Grand Master at the Special Grand Lodge . Lord

Leigh , the Provincial Grand Master for Warwickshire from 1852 , was a great personality on 28 th April 1675 , when the present King was installed as Grand Master at the Royal Albert Hall ; and I remember well his stately form taking part in the procession up the Hall . Thirty years ago he was

a constant attendant at Grand Lodge ; he has been very seldom in evidence there for twenty years ; and the present generation of London Masons do not know him by sight , though he has a grand record , that of having been a Prov . Grand Master for thirty-nine years .

The universality of the Craft is exemplified in the Rising Sun Lodge , No . 14 O 1 , which meets at Kobe , Japan , and is at present presided over by Bro . G . C . Pakenham , an o ' . d resident of Cheltenham . A local paper reports the

Norfolk.

Lodge as being in a very flourishing condition , its members being of various nationalities , Russian and Japanese alternating with English and Scotch on its membership roll .

Bro . Horace Brooks Marshall has been nominated by the Lord Mayor , Bro . Frank Green , for the office of . Sheriff of London for the ensuing year .
