THK example set by tho city of Kiugston might well be followed iu this country , certainly in every large centre of Masonry . A few earnest brethren in Jamaica met together to consider if it was nofc possible to form a library in connection with the Province . Thoy formed themselves into a body , and put forth that their object " ia
the diffusion of Masonic information with regard to the History , Principles and Practice of Freemasonry , in times past and present throughout the world , and to enable this to be done an Association is organised ... to provide the means of accomplishing its object . " The proposed schome took at once . Tho Governors of the Jamaica
Institute furnished the necessary accommodation , liberal brethren contributed books and MSS ., Lodges in the Province subscribed , and in November lasb the bye-laws now before us were sanctioned . The Library is established , and a very excellent beginning has been made . The contributions of the members have been numerous , and with the
books ordered from London , stores of knowledge are furnished to the members which cannot but prove both interesting and instructive . We congratulate our brethren of the Province of Jamaica ; they have seb an example to the Mother country which it will do well to follow . We trust that the management will be as comprehensive as the
enterprise is bold and worthy , and that no narrow prejudice or mean parsimony will prevent the fugitive literature of the Craft from finding a place on the Library table . There are many excellent
periodicals connected with Freemasonry , b ' th in England and America , and amongst them the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE , which has a status of its own , and without which no Masonic Library can be said to be complete .

features that cannot be dispensed with , and variety can only be obtained by a change of arrangement . The information in the Calendar before ns is of tho nsaal type , clearly arranged , but in addition there is a record of past officers in connection with the several bodies that exist in the Province . The valne of the work as
a reference book is , iu consequence , very much enhanced to those more immediately concerned , and those who take an interest in the growth of the Craft cannot fail to welcome snob , a means as this Calendar offers for satisfying their curiosity and desire for knowledge . Hampshire appears to be a flourishing Province , and Masonry in its
various branches grows and thrives there to a greater extent , comparing its size and population , than in any other county or combination of counties . All branches of tho Craft find a borne in the Province , including the Swedenborgiau Rite , Esoteric Orders , and Cryptic Degrees . No doubt throe such important places as Portsmouth ,
Southampton , and Aldorshofc , have done much to encourage the growth and development of the mystic Orders , but the same spirit seems to prevail throughout the county , and in that beautiful spot the Isle of Wight . It is right that the various bodies in those places should have a worthy record , and they have it in the Calendar before as .
" The Little One ' s Own Coloured Picture Paper . " Edited b y Mrs . Elizabeth Day . London : 160 A Fleet-street . THIS new venture is published by Messrs . Dean and Son , who are so well known for the production of coloured toy books , and who seem to distance all others in this particular line . The publication now
claiming attention is issued weekly at one penny , and in monthly parts . From the prospectus we learn that it " aims to be a second mother to all little ones , and its greatest privilege is to promote goodness , truth , and kindness , and to convey motherly lessons of simple gentle piety . " The first number was issued on Saturday last ,
and it fully bears out the claims put forward in the prospectus . It is jnst the kind of paper that was wanted . It fills np a gap in the supply of periodical literature , and is so well done that success is certain . There are four full page illustrations in the first issue , all inculcating useful lessons in a most attractive form , and in a style
suitable to infantile minds . We should not be surprised if this gailycoloured and lively-written periodical does not find favour with many who are in the sere and yellow leaf , bub who live their childish
days over again in their grand-children . At any rate , no one who loves little children can fail to appreciate this coloured picture paper , which is so well adapted to their wants and so well calculated to teach purity of thought and action .
Mr . Alfred J . Eyre , the talented Organist of the Crystal Palace , was initiated into Freemasonry on Monday last , in the Quadratic Lodge , No . 1691 , at the Mitre Hotel , Hampton Court . THK example set by tho city of Kiugston might well be followed iu this country , certainly in every large centre of Masonry . A few earnest brethren in Jamaica met together to consider if it was nofc possible to form a library in connection with the Province . Thoy formed themselves into a body , and put forth that their object " ia
the diffusion of Masonic information with regard to the History , Principles and Practice of Freemasonry , in times past and present throughout the world , and to enable this to be done an Association is organised ... to provide the means of accomplishing its object . " The proposed schome took at once . Tho Governors of the Jamaica
Institute furnished the necessary accommodation , liberal brethren contributed books and MSS ., Lodges in the Province subscribed , and in November lasb the bye-laws now before us were sanctioned . The Library is established , and a very excellent beginning has been made . The contributions of the members have been numerous , and with the
books ordered from London , stores of knowledge are furnished to the members which cannot but prove both interesting and instructive . We congratulate our brethren of the Province of Jamaica ; they have seb an example to the Mother country which it will do well to follow . We trust that the management will be as comprehensive as the
enterprise is bold and worthy , and that no narrow prejudice or mean parsimony will prevent the fugitive literature of the Craft from finding a place on the Library table . There are many excellent
periodicals connected with Freemasonry , b ' th in England and America , and amongst them the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE , which has a status of its own , and without which no Masonic Library can be said to be complete .

features that cannot be dispensed with , and variety can only be obtained by a change of arrangement . The information in the Calendar before ns is of tho nsaal type , clearly arranged , but in addition there is a record of past officers in connection with the several bodies that exist in the Province . The valne of the work as
a reference book is , iu consequence , very much enhanced to those more immediately concerned , and those who take an interest in the growth of the Craft cannot fail to welcome snob , a means as this Calendar offers for satisfying their curiosity and desire for knowledge . Hampshire appears to be a flourishing Province , and Masonry in its
various branches grows and thrives there to a greater extent , comparing its size and population , than in any other county or combination of counties . All branches of tho Craft find a borne in the Province , including the Swedenborgiau Rite , Esoteric Orders , and Cryptic Degrees . No doubt throe such important places as Portsmouth ,
Southampton , and Aldorshofc , have done much to encourage the growth and development of the mystic Orders , but the same spirit seems to prevail throughout the county , and in that beautiful spot the Isle of Wight . It is right that the various bodies in those places should have a worthy record , and they have it in the Calendar before as .
" The Little One ' s Own Coloured Picture Paper . " Edited b y Mrs . Elizabeth Day . London : 160 A Fleet-street . THIS new venture is published by Messrs . Dean and Son , who are so well known for the production of coloured toy books , and who seem to distance all others in this particular line . The publication now
claiming attention is issued weekly at one penny , and in monthly parts . From the prospectus we learn that it " aims to be a second mother to all little ones , and its greatest privilege is to promote goodness , truth , and kindness , and to convey motherly lessons of simple gentle piety . " The first number was issued on Saturday last ,
and it fully bears out the claims put forward in the prospectus . It is jnst the kind of paper that was wanted . It fills np a gap in the supply of periodical literature , and is so well done that success is certain . There are four full page illustrations in the first issue , all inculcating useful lessons in a most attractive form , and in a style
suitable to infantile minds . We should not be surprised if this gailycoloured and lively-written periodical does not find favour with many who are in the sere and yellow leaf , bub who live their childish
days over again in their grand-children . At any rate , no one who loves little children can fail to appreciate this coloured picture paper , which is so well adapted to their wants and so well calculated to teach purity of thought and action .
Mr . Alfred J . Eyre , the talented Organist of the Crystal Palace , was initiated into Freemasonry on Monday last , in the Quadratic Lodge , No . 1691 , at the Mitre Hotel , Hampton Court . The ceremony of initiation was very ably performed by Bro . R . H . Thrupp P . A . G . D . C , and Deputy Prov . Grand Master Middlesex ,
