ON tho 12 th inst ., the annual installation in connection with this Lodge was held at West Hartlepool , the W . M . Elect , Bro . Henry Lamb , being impressively installed by Bro . H . B . Oliver , the retiring W . M ., and Bro . E . Hudson . The Officers chosen were Bros . J . Sinclair S . W ., W . Hodge J . W ., R . Harpley Treas ., J . Monkman Sec , E . Cleimett S . D ., R . Lupton J . D ., Hexmouth Org ., W . S . Ryan I . G ., and Kelly and Tueland Stewards .

NEPTUNE LODGE , No . 1264 .

THE Annual Festival was held on Monday , tho 4 th inst ., in the Masonio Temple , Ilopo-street , Liverpool . The Lodge , which was consecrated about 20 years ago , nnmbers nearly 100 on its roll , and is at present one of the most flourishing offshoots of Freemasonry in the province . In addition to the numerous body of members

that assembled to witness the investiture of the officers for the ensuing year , many visitors ( mostly officers in superior positions ) attendod from other Lodges . The W . M . elect , Bro . Samuel L . Fraser , was presented for installation by Bros . Peter B . Gee and Pemberton , and the ceremony was performed by Bro . J . Ashworth .

Bro . Fraser iu turn invested his Officers for the ensuing year , as follow -. —Bros . W . Fish I . P . M ., William Jones S . W ., W . KOhn J . W ., Alexander Cotter P . M . Trea ., John J . Wales M . W . G . M ., the Princess of Wales , aud the rest of the Royal Family were given in succession by the W . M . Bro . Gee P . M . proposed the health of the Earl of Carnarvon M . W . Pro Grand Master , and Officers nf Graud Lodge . The Earl of Lathom , the W . Dep . Grand Master and Prov . Grand Master of West Lancashire , and the

Officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge , submitted by the W . M ., was responded to by Bros . R . Foote , W . Mellor , and J . B . Mackenzie . Tho W . M . replied in appropriate terms to bis health , which was given by Bro . Ashworth , and Bro . Fraser in toasting the I . P . M . ( Bro . Fish ) , took occasion to present him with a handsome P . M . ' s jewel on

bjhalf of the members of the Lodge . The subsequent toasts were the Installing Master , the Past Masters , the Masonic Charities , & c . During the evening an admirable musical programme was rendered by Bros . H . J . Nicholls , W . Hudson , T . C . Fargher , aud E . B . Ironside .

fPHE ordinary meeting of this flourishing young Lodgo was held on 1 Saturday , the 9 th inst ., at the Old Welsh Harp , Headon . There were present Bros . VV . H . Scurrah P . M . 2018 P . P . G . S . of W . Middlesex , J . Thorn S . W ., Fraser J . W ., W . M . Stiles P . M . Treasurer and acting I . P . M ., A . H . Scurrah Secretary , G . Lewis S . D ., A . R . Nottiugham J . D ., A . J . Hearoe D . C , W . B . Parsons A . D . C , W . Laugley I . G ., E . VV .

HENDON LODGE , No . 2206

Wheeler Organist , A . M . Parsons W . S ., R . Whiting Tyler , and a numerous company of brethren and visitors . The Lodge was opened in dne form , aud the minutes of previous Lodge meeting- were read aud confirmed . Lodge was opened iu tho second decree , and resumed . Brother Anderson , of tho Heudon Lodge , and Bros .

Lackland and Petrie , of the Royal Savoy Lodge , candidates to be raised to the third degree , answered the usual questions and retired . Lodgo was then opened in the third degree , and the last named brethren were raised to the sublime degree of M . M . in dae form . Lodge was closed to the 2 nd aud 1 st degrees , and

Bro . Rice , of the Royal Savoy Lodge , and Bro . Dcumau , of tho Henry Levander Lodge , candidates to be passed to tho second degree , were tested and retired . The ballot was then taken for the following gentlemen , viz ., Messrs . H . Monsou and J . H . Gunn , and waa declared unanimous in their favour . These candidates being in attendance

Were initiated into tho ancient mysteries iu clue form . Tho brethren next proceeded to ballot for a W . M . for the eiisuiiu : year . Tho choice fell upon the present S . W . ( Bro . Thorn ) , who returned his warm thanks to the brethren for tho acceptance of him a a W . M . elect . The Lodge also unanimously re-elected Bros . W . M . Stiles

aud Whiting as Treasurer and Tyler respectively . Both brethren acknowledged the honour conferred upon them . A P . M . ' .- ' jewel was unanimously voted to the retiring W . M ., in rutviiitinn of his

valuable services to the Lodgo during tho past year , ; m i a je ; vcl was also voted to Bro . Stiles , for tho excellent rnam . ev in whioh ho had performed tho duties of I . P . M . Tho members also requested tho reretiring W . M . to sit for his portrait , to be placed in the Lodge as a

special mark of their regard for him as the first W . M . Bro . W . A . Scurrah said that it would give him great pleasure to do so . Several brethren expressed hearty good wishes , which the W . M . suitably acknowledged . Nothing further offering , the Lodge waa closed in due form . The Brethren afterwards assembled at the

Banquet table , where Bro . W . P . Warner had , as usual , provided a capital spread . The usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were severally honoured . Bro . Stiles Acting I . P . M ., iu proposing the W . M ., said , you all know the worthy and masferl y way in which our W \ 1 . as performed bis duties iu , and for our Lodge during his year of office .

Ho worked hard from the first , and as you know , brethren , has done everything he could for yon and the Lodge . Bro . Scnrrah has discharged his duties as W . M . in a most able manner , and I am sure that all of you , with myself , hope that we shall be able to retain his services for many years . The W . M . ( Bro . W . A . Scnrrah ) , in reply ,

said , I beg most sincerely to thank the brethren for the kind manner in which they have received and honoured this toast . I have also to return my thanks for many things ; first , for making me W . M . of fcl U magnificent Lodge ; second , I have to thank the Officer * for theigreat attention and assistance during my year of office , for as vou

know , without good officers the W . M . is helpless , and as a ship cannot whether the storm unless the captain is supported by good officers and men , so , brethren , should we have been without good officers to assist me , and instead of this Lodge being as it is , a great success , it would have been wrecked and foundered . For this

reason I have to thank the officers for upholding me in every way , and let me assure them that I will do all I can to uphold the dignity of the Lodge , and study the we fare of every one of its members in or out of it . I may perhaps be permitted to take this opportunity of thanking ray friends of this Lodge , and also those friend- " , some of

whom are here , not belonging to this Lodge , who so kindly and energetically supported me in my candidature for the B ard of General Purposes at the Grand Lodge of England on Wed' esday last . I am happy to inform yon and them that I was returned , third in order , to serve on that Board . Let me in conclusion thank ym

for having elected our worthy S . W . as your W . M . for the ensuing year . In him you will have a Master to be proud of . He knows the ritual thoroughly , and is one who will carry out his duties in the most conscientious manner . I must thauk you for having given me so many initiates during my year of office , brethren who are a credit

to our Lodge , and of whom I am exceedingly prond . You have asked me to sit for my portrait , and for this kind mark of esteem , I cannot sufficiently thank you . It is the greatest honour you have

conferred upon me ; and I trust yon will never have cause , so far as I am concerned , to regret yonr request of t > -day . The W . M . Elect , J . W . and Officers , and several other toasts followed , and the brethren separated , after having spent a most enjoyable evening .

WILBERFORCE LODGE , No . 2134 AN interesting incident marked the proceedings of this Lodge afc the ordinary monthly meeting on tho 12 th inst . Bro . W . Gillett W . M . presided , and was supported by Bros . J . Mackail I . P . M ., T . T . Davis P . M ., T . B . Red fern S . W ., W . Woodall J . W ., and other Officers . Among tho visiting brethren were Bros . M . C . Peck , W

Tessyman , C Cheesman , H . Watson , & c . On the conclusion of the ordinary business of tho Lodge , Bro . T . T . Davis P . M . presented on behalf of the members of the Lodge a handsome electro-plated tea and coffee service to the Worshipful Master , Bro . W . Gillett , as a token of esteem from the brethren on the occasiou of his marriage .

Bro . Davis eulogised the Worshipful Master ' s worth in a few most appropriate and appreciative remarks , and the Worshipful Brother in acknowledging tho compliment which had been paid him , said it had come upon him quite unexpectedly . He stated that in order to prevent anything of this nature he had kept his marriage a secret

from Bro . Woodall , his oldest friend in the Lodge . He felt deeply the kindness of his officers and brethren , and on behalf of himself and his wife he thanked them for this expression of their esteem and goodwill . The plate bore tho following inscription : — "Presented to Worshipful Brother Gillett P . M ., P . P . G . St . B ., by

the members of the Wilberforce Lodge of Freemasons , No . 2134 , on the occasion of his marriage . Hull , 4 th June 1888 . " At the supper which followed , Bro . M . C . Peck proposed the health of the Worshipful Master in eulogistic terms . He pointed out that a Mason should be a good man , a moral man , and a temperate and

sober man on all occasions , and all these Bro . Gillett had proved himself to be . He had been a most useful member of the Order , and they had one proof of that in the part he took in the formation of -uch an excellent Lodge as the Wilberforce Lodge . He wished Bro Gillett long life and happiness . The Worshi pful Master acknow lodged the compliment . Other toasts followed .

The Government of Guatemala has officia ll y sanctioned the existonco of Freemasons in that republic by recognizing the ' r existence as a corporate body , a 3 customary with all societies , but without having more to do with their operations than it would with those of a commercial firm . Less than twenty years ago the

suggestion that such a course shonlrl be adopted by the Government would have been considered heresy , and the unfortunate suErgestors would have been held as objects of suspicion by many of their feliow-eitizons . We congratulate the Fraternity on the concession it has thus obtained , but we more warmly congratulate the Government on this fresh proof of liberality it has thus afforded .

Tessyman , C Cheesman , H . Watson , & c . On the conclusion of the ordinary business of tho Lodge , Bro . T . T . Davis P . M . presented on behalf of the members of the Lodge a handsome electro-plated tea and coffee service to the Worshipful Master , Bro . W . Gillett , as a token of esteem from the brethren on the occasiou of his marriage .

Bro . Davis eulogised the Worshipful Master ' s worth in a few most appropriate and appreciative remarks , and the Worshipful Brother in acknowledging tho compliment which had been paid him , said it had come upon him quite unexpectedly . He stated that in order to prevent anything of this nature he had kept his marriage a secret

from Bro . Woodall , his oldest friend in the Lodge . He felt deeply the kindness of his officers and brethren , and on behalf of himself and his wife he thanked them for this expression of their esteem and goodwill . The plate bore tho following inscription : — "Presented to Worshipful Brother Gillett P . M ., P . P . G . St . B ., by

the members of the Wilberforce Lodge of Freemasons , No . 2134 , on the occasion of his marriage . Hull , 4 th June 1888 . " At the supper which followed , Bro . M . C . Peck proposed the health of the Worshipful Master in eulogistic terms . He pointed out that a Mason should be a good man , a moral man , and a temperate and

sober man on all occasions , and all these Bro . Gillett had proved himself to be . He had been a most useful member of the Order , and they had one proof of that in the part he took in the formation of -uch an excellent Lodge as the Wilberforce Lodge . He wished Bro Gillett long life and happiness . The Worshi pful Master acknow lodged the compliment . Other toasts followed .
