CHISLEHURST LODGE , No . 1531

THE installation meeting of this important Kentish Lodge was held on Saturday , the 25 th ult ., at the Bull ' s Head Hotel , Chislehurst . As usual , this popular gathering brought together a goodly number of members and visitors . Among these we may include Bros . Qaicke P . M . W . M ., Marshall S . W . W . M . elect , Dettmer J . W . Hollis P . M . Treasurer , Goodale P . M . Secretary , Kipps P . P . G . O .,

, Behena P . P . G . P ., Brailey P . P . G . A . P ., Nevill P . M ., Buudy P . M ., J . Muir-Smith P . M ., Smith S . D ., Procter I . G ., Mnir and Drinkwater Stewards , Tunstall , Shaw , Gleaves , Whomes , Gardener , Herring , Storey , Dowsett , R . G . Robinson , Nathan Robinson , L . L . C ., and others . Visitors—Bros . Robert Gladstone Robinson , who had been previously balloted for aud elected , was initiated by Bro . Quicke in his usually able and impressive manner . Bros . J . Muir-Smith and Nathan Robinson were then elected joining members . Bro . Robinson returned thanks in a suitable speech , and thanked the

brethren for his own election as a member , and of his son aa an initiate that day . Bro . Hollis was re-elected Charity Representative for tbe ensuing year , and expressed his willingness to carry out the duties of that office . The next business was the installation of Bro . Marshall S . W . W . M . elect . The ceremony was performed by the W . M ., Bro . Quicke . The new W . M . then appointed and invested his

Officers , as follow : —Broa . Quioke I . P . M ., Dettmer S . W ., Smith J . W ., Hollis Treasurer , Goodale Seoretary , Kipps Director of Ceremonies , Gleaves S . D ., Perriam J . D ., Prooter I . G ., Gardener A . D . C , Muir and Drinkwater Stewards , Rawles Tyler . Bro . Quioke P . M . then completed the installation ceremony , rendering the usual addresses in a manner that did him the highest credit , and afterwards drew

the admiration of the brethren . Before the Lodge was closed a vote of deep sympathy was accorded to the widow of the late Bro . Nunn P . M ., in her sad bereavement . The banquet was held in the Village Hall , and it was an exceedingly bountiful and enjoyable spread . The usual toasts received due hononr . Speoial attention was paid to the toasts of Earl Amherst Provincial Grand Master , and Bro . Eaatea Deputy Provincial Grand Master . The toaat of the W . M . was

heartily received , as were also the Installing Master , the Joining Members , and the Initiate . Bros . Nathan Robinson , Dowsett , Kipps , Berry , Harlow , Dettmer , and others , contributed to the musical arrangementa . The prosperity of this popular Kentish Lodge is very gratifying , and the brethren are about to present a testimonial to the I . P . M ., Bro . C . F . Quicke , as a mark of their appreciation of his services in conducing to the progress of the Lodge , and in recognition of hia second year of offioe as W . M .

PRUDENCE LODGE , No . 1550

THE members of thia Lodge met in large numbers at tho Freemasons' Hall , Plymouth , on Saturday evening , the 2 nd inst ., when Bro . Godfrey Evans was duly installed as W . M . for the onsuing year . Bro . Mutton , the retiring W . M ., presided , and a large board of Installed Masters inoluded Bros . Lord , Gover , Bird , Bond , Philp , Kevern , Selleck , Jew , Croydon , Blight , Pike , Parkuouse , Roseveare ,

Bailey , Goodman , Titherley , Leonard , and Mayne . The ceremony ot ' installation was impressively carried out by Broa . Mntten , Titherley , Lord , Bird , Selleck , and Gover . The newly-inecalled Master af cerwardB invested his Offioers , as follow : —Bros . Mntten I . P . M ., Budge S . W ., Robins J . W ., Philp Treasurer , Selleck Secretary , Penwarn S . D ., Griffiths J . D ., Sewell I . G ., Edwards Dir . of Cers ., Roberts Assist .

Dir . of Cers ., Pryor Organist , Venning , Chegwidden , Arnold and Bone Stewarda , and Phillipa Tyler . Bro . Philp in presenting the Treasurer ' s report , said he did ao with more than ordinary pleasure , aa the paat year had been one of the most successful ever held in the history of the Lodge . They commenced the financial year with a credit balance of £ 29 , and , although their expenditure had been heavier than usual , they closed the year with a balance of £ 53 in

their favour . Although he fully recognised that they should not , as Masons , retain large balances in hand , on the other hand he thought every Lodge should have a good working credit balance , and he was glad that Prudence Lodge waa now in that aatisfaotory position , and hoped it wonld be maintained in the future . It was decided to hold tne annual outing , and a Committee was appointed to make the necessary arrangements .

Arthur Jonn Hone Goldney , and the ceremony of

installation waa proceeded with in due form , and excellentl y performed , Bro . Shutt rendering the addreases with eapeoial ability . The W . M . then appointed his Officers , as follow : —Broa . Reference waa made to the death of the Provincial Grand Master Sir

Francis Burdett , and a statable vote of condolence to the' family passed . Other formal business and hearty good wishes completed the work , and the Lodge waa closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . In the interim the brethren assembled in the tennis ground , and were photographed ia groap by Brother A . Weston , of Newgate Street . At the banquet the usual toasts were

honoured . The W . M ., in referring to the toaat of the M . W . Grand Mastor , said that the Prince of Wales , amidst the many greater calls on His Highness never forgot or neglected hia Masonio duties , and always did hia work when possible . Bro . John Lawrenoe Mather , replying for the Grand Officers , said that Grand Lodge Offioers were always ready to do their best for all Lodges , and that the M . W .

Grand Master had the assistance of two most remarkable and eminent noblemen in the Earl of Lathom and the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , as Pro Master and Deputy Master , who very justly and ably performed the duties of their offioe ; they were most practical and good Masons , and were always listened to with the greatest pleasure . He believed he waa tbe only honorary member

of this Lodge , and waa delighted to aee the marked progress made sinoe he was present , fonr years ago . He paid a high tribute to the late Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., whom the hand of death had ao recently removed from ns . Bro . Mather , continuing , said , putting away Borrow , the brethren were to be thankful for the good services rendered by Bro . Raymond

H . Thrupp Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex . Brother Tiokle , responding for the Provincial Grand Officers , also referred to the lamented decease of the Provincial Grand Master . Bro . Sir F . Burdett had always been known aa a grand old English gentleman , his kindly manner endearing him to all he knew . Bro . Shutt , who has recently been elected Treasurer of the Provincial Grand Chapter

enlarged on the previous remarks , aud expressed his wiah to do his best to promote the interest of the Province . Bro . Tiokle , in proposing the health of the W . M ., said , he being one of the children of the Lodge , the members had watched his career , and of all men he had the most pleaaure in seeing him installed in tho chair of the Lodge . All the members were pleased to see him in the chair , and

it would not be their fault if the present W . M . did not excel the previous ones . No brother was blessed with more generosity and kindness of heart than Bro . Goldney , and he was prnud of so good a oitizen and brother Mason ; he winhed him a happy and prosperous year of office . The W . M ., in response , said -he dirt not know how tn thank the members for the kind way they had received him . They

had elevated him to the high office of Worshipful Master of the Sub-Urban Lodge , and be would try his utmost to do credit to the position , with satisfaction to himself and honour to the Lori ^ e . Replying to the Visitors' toast , Bro . Dr . Herron thanked the W . M . for the hearty way he had given the toast , and for the greau consideration always shown to Visitors by this Lodge . He waa

pleased to come there and meet his Masonio brethren , to get away from the t << il of City life , to enjoy the hospitality of old Irieuds iu that beautiful country retreat , where it seemed to be always clay uud never evening . Bro . W . Rickwood said he was much gratified in being one of the Visitors that evening . No day in the year waa looked forward to by him with greater pleaaure than tbe red letter

day of hi 8 visit to the Sub-Urban Lodge . Bros . A . Weston , Woodrow , and Tumber also replied . The W . M ., in proposing the toaat- of the P . M . 'a and Installing Master , said they could not g"t on witb at them . The P . M . ' a of the Lodge were par excellence ; they were very hard workers , and it was only when iu the ohair that you k . ew how they helped and bow kind they were . He then presentei to

Bro . Tickle , on behalf of the Lodge , a bar for his Past Master s jewel , and , in placing it , remarked that Bro . Tickle waa the first Master of the Lodge , some 23 years back . He had subsequently served aa Master , and now leavea the chair for the third time . Bro . Goldney made a further presentation to Bro . Tickle of a handsome gold ring , subscribed for by the Lodge aa a mark of their esteem , and in

recognition of hia long and valued aervices , hoping that he would live long to wear it . Bro . Tickle , in reaponse , 8 aid it waa a red letter day in his life , and that the handsome way in whioh he waa referred to and treated was more than he deserved . His desire was the desire of all the members—to maintain the honour of the Lodge , which held no mean position in the Province . Wherever the

memb 3 rs went in the Province they were always received with hononr . The snccess of the Lodge had undoubtedly been due to the long list of good Masons who had followed and preceded him . He thanked the W . M . and brethren heartily for the beautiful ring with which they had adorned him , and which would alwuys be looked upon by him and bis children as an emblem of esteem and regard .

The W . M ., in giving the toast of the Treasurer aud Secretary , remarked that the late Provincial Grand Master told Bro . Hill to his face that he was a most valuable Seoretary . The evening amusement was enhanced by a few songs rendered by Bros . Weston , Morrett , Milton Smith , Barnard , Shepherd , and a wondeiftu imiUof bees by BJO . Very the Tyler ,

Grand Master had the assistance of two most remarkable and eminent noblemen in the Earl of Lathom and the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe , as Pro Master and Deputy Master , who very justly and ably performed the duties of their offioe ; they were most practical and good Masons , and were always listened to with the greatest pleasure . He believed he waa tbe only honorary member

of this Lodge , and waa delighted to aee the marked progress made sinoe he was present , fonr years ago . He paid a high tribute to the late Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., whom the hand of death had ao recently removed from ns . Bro . enlarged on the previous remarks , aud expressed his wiah to do his best to promote the interest of the Province . Bro . Tiokle , in proposing the health of the W . M ., said , he being one of the children of the Lodge , the members had watched his career , and of all men he had the most pleaaure in seeing him installed in tho chair of the Lodge . All the members were pleased to see him in the chair , and

it would not be their fault if the present W . M . did not excel the previous ones . No brother was blessed with more generosity and kindness of heart than Bro . Goldney , and he was prnud of so good a oitizen and brother Mason ; he winhed him a happy and prosperous year of office . The W . M ., in response , said -he dirt not know how tn thank the members for the kind way they had received him . They

had elevated him to the high office of Worshipful Master of the Sub-Urban Lodge , and be would try his utmost to do credit to the position , with satisfaction to himself and honour to the Lori ^ e . Replying to the Visitors' toast , Bro . Dr . Herron thanked the W . M . for the hearty way he had given the toast , and for the greau consideration always shown to Visitors by this Lodge . He waa

pleased to come there and meet his Masonio brethren , to get away from the t << il of City life , to enjoy the hospitality of old Irieuds iu that beautiful country retreat , where it seemed to be always clay uud never evening . Bro . Tickle , on behalf of the Lodge , a bar for his Past Master s jewel , and , in placing it , remarked that Bro . Tickle waa the first Master of the Lodge , some 23 years back . He had subsequently served aa Master , and now leavea the chair for the third time . Bro . Goldney made a further presentation to Bro . Tickle of a handsome gold ring , subscribed for by the Lodge aa a mark of their esteem , and in

recognition of hia long and valued aervices , hoping that he would live long to wear it . Bro . Tickle , in reaponse , 8 aid it waa a red letter day in his life , and that the handsome way in whioh he waa referred to and treated was more than he deserved . His desire was the desire of all the members—to maintain the honour of the Lodge , which held no mean position in the Province . Wherever the

memb 3 rs went in the Province they were always received with hononr . The snccess of the Lodge had undoubtedly been due to the long list of good Masons who had followed and preceded him . He thanked the W . M . and brethren heartily for the beautiful ring with which they had adorned him , and which would alwuys be looked upon by him and bis children as an emblem of esteem and regard .

The W . M ., in giving the toast of the Treasurer aud Secretary , remarked that the late Provincial Grand Master told Bro . Hill to his face that he was a most valuable Seoretary .
