5 th inst . The ceremony , which was of a brilliant description , was performed at the Grand Hotel , in the presence of a large number of Brethren , many of whom attended from Brighton .

The Founders of the new Lodge are Bros . C . W . Tomes , A . J . Howard , J . Skinner , Dr . J . H . Ewart , Dr . A . P . Sherwood , C . Foran , F . Lawson Lewis , W . F . Trydell , Dr . A . Roberts / Capt . C . de M . Franklyn , R . E ., J . Senior ,

W . Burt , Rev . H . G . Jameson , A . H . Thomas , A . J . Hart , W . Lamb , H . G . White , E . R . Home , C . I . Morris , V . Wormald , Fred Schreiner , Dr . C . O'Brien Harding , C . Haskins , P . Armstrong and E . E . Pratt .

It was hoped the ceremony would be performed by the Provincial Grand Master His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaiight , says the "Brighton Gazette , " but military duties prevented His Royal Highness from presiding . Sir "William Marriott , however , proved a very able substitute .

The Wardens' chairs were occupied by Bros . A . Lloyd Prov . S . G . W . as S . W ., and Ben F . Meadows as J . W ., while Bro . Owen Embling Prov . G . D . C . officiated as D . C . The Consecrating Officer was supported by a large number of

Past and Present Provincial Officers . The ceremony was impressively carried out and the musical arrangements under the direction of Bro . Chapman Marshall Prov . G . Organist , and Bro . V . Wormald Organist 243 greatly added to the effect .

After the Consecration , Bro . Capt . C . de M . Franklyn , R . E ., P . District G . Std . Br . Gibraltar Assistant D . C . 2434 W . M .-elect 2621 was installed as the first W . M . of the

Lodge , the ceremony being conducted by Bro . the Very Rev . E . R , Currie , D . D ., Dean of Battle , P . G . Chaplain P . Prov . G . Chaplain . The W . M . appointed and invested his Officers

for the ensuing year . The business of the Lodge over , the members sat down to a sumptuous banquet , at which the newly-installed W . M . presided .

The loyal toasts having been duly honoured , the W . M . proposed the Consecrating Officers ... The members of the Lodge were much indebted , he said , to Bro . Marriott for journeying from London to consecrate the Lodge , and all

would agree that the manner in which the ceremony had been carried out was as near perfection as possible . He also spoke in eulogistic terms of the manner in which Bro . Currie had conducted the installation ceremony .

Sir W . T . Marriott , on rising to reply , was warmly received . He expressed the opinion that nowhere in Sussex was Freemasonry more flourishing than in Eastbourne , and wished . the Lodge every success and prosperity .

Bro . the Very Rev . E . R . Currie also acknowledged the toast , and alluded in feeling terms to the loss the Freemasons of Eastbourne had experienced by the death of the late Bro . Morrison .

Bro . ' Balfour Cockburn suitably proposed the Worshipful Master . Bro . Capt . C . de M . Franklin , R . E ., briefly responded , and other toasts were given .

AN interesting development of the Old Boys' Association of the Brighton Grammar School was witnessed on Monday , 4 th inst ., says the " Brighton Gazette , " when the members formed themselves into a Masonic Lodge . It is appropriately named Past and Present , and its number is 2665 . The Founders of the Lodge are Bros . Charles W .

and Walter Swaysland 315 . The ceremony of consecration took place at Blanchard's Restaurant , Beak Street , London , and was conducted with all impressiveness by the Grand Secretary Bro . E . Letchworth , F . S . A ., with the assistance of the following Grand Officers : —Bro . Richard Eve P . G . T . as S . W ., Charles E . Keyser P . G . D . as J . W ., Rev . J . S .

Studholme Brownrigg P . G . C . as Chaplain , Frank Richardson P . G . D . as D . C , and J . M . McLeod P . G . S . B . as I . G . Many other Grand Officers also attended , including Bros . G . Everett P . G . T ., W . H . Kempster P . G . Std ., J . Stephens Deputy G . D . C ., R . Clowes P . G . Std . Br ., H . Sadler G . Tyler , W . Martin A . G . Purs ., and J . Terry P . G . S . B .

Bro . Charles W . Hudson was installed as the first W . M ., and he appointed and invested the Officers for the year . Twelve candidates were proposed for initiation and one as a joining member .

The ; Grand Secretary and the other officiating Grand Officers were elected as honorary members . Subsequently a banquet was served , the W . M . presiding . Several complimentary toasts were enthusiastically drunk .

In responding to the toast of the Consecrating Officers , Bro . Richard Eve P . G . T . remarked that the foundation of this Lodge would open up new ground to Freemasonry , and lead to the growth of the principles of the Craft among the public schools of the country .

Bro . Colonel Tester proposed the Worshipful Master . He said he did so with special pleasure , as one of the Founders of the Grammar School , with Bro . Hudson ' s late father and others . Speaking of the school itself , he said it had done great good and had sent out pupils to all parts of

the . world . He was delighted to announce that one of the new initiates would be the honoured head master , Mr . E . J . Marshall . He felt that the foundation of this Lodge was a unique feature in Freemasonry , and he warmly congratulated Bro . Hudson upon being the first W . M . He wished him every possible success .

The Worshipful Master , who was heartily applauded , ' said he was fully conscious of the high honour conferred upon him . He was proud to be an old boy of the Grammar School , of which he was now a director , and he was glad to be associated with the School's Masonic Lodge . Seeing

that there were old boys all over the world , he believed that the Lodge would have no little influence upon them , as it would encourage the opening of new Lodges in those distant regions . He promised to do his utmost to promote the prosperity of the Lodge and the happiness of the Brethren . The musical programme was sustained by Bro . H . Schartau , Bro . Charles Ellison , and Bro . F . Bevan .

A MEETING of the Committee was held on the nth inst ., at the Freemasons' Hall , Plymouth , to make arrangements for the forthcoming election of two candidates . Bro . Powell presided , and there were also present Bros . E . H . Littleton , T . Lindsay Lloyd , Albert Moore , C . Mutten , W . T . Hocking , J . B . Gover ( Hon . Secretary ) , W . H . Dillon

( Assistant Secretary ) . It was reported that three candidates were brought forward from the last election , and that two fresh applications had been received—one from Princetown ,

and one from Ivybridge—making five candidates for the two vacancies , says the " Western Morning News . " The election will take place about the end of this month , but the date has not yet been fixed .
