Jessop P . P . G . S . B . were elected as representative members on tho Committoo of Freemasons' Hall , Leicester . Reference was mado by a brother present to tho proceedings at the recent Quarterly Court of the Boys' School on tho
subject of tho intended retiring pension , to the Secretary , but no notico of motion having been given , the Prov . G . Master ruled that any discussion thereon would bo out of order , Tho Deputy Provincial Grand Master suggested
that if a desire wero strongly expressed on the part of any number of tho brethren that the subject should be further considered , a requisition could be sent to the Provincial Grand Master to hold a special meeting of Provincial
Grand Lodgo for the purpose , but ho strongly deprecated tho adoption of any hasty or immature action on the question . The Provincial Grand Master expressed his willingness to convene a meeting , if such a requisition as
the Deputy Provincial Grand Master had suggested were submitted to him . A letter was read from the W . M . of No . 279 , inviting tho Provincial Grand Master to hold the meeting of Provincial Grand Lodge , for the year 1890 , at Leicester , under the banner of St . John ' s Lodge , it being the completion of the 100 th year of that Lodge ' s existence . A communication was also read soliciting contributions
for the erection of a Masonic stall or stalls in the newlyrestored choir of Peterborough Cathedral , and a contribution of two guiueas from tbe funds of Provincial Grand Lodge was voted to that object . Some other business of a formal character having been disposed of , and letters of
apology for absence read from several distinguished brethren , including one from Bro . Kelly Past Provincial Grand Mastor , the state of whose health prevented his attendance , the Provincial Grand Lodge was closed in due
form . At the conclusion of the business , tho brethren adjourned to tho Bull ' s Head Hotel , whero an oxceller . it banquet had been provided . Bro . Earl Ferrers presided , ancl the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

of tho Inland Rovt nie abandoning its claim to assess the Institution to Corporation Duty . A vote of thanks was unanimously passed to Bro . J . A . Farnfield for his services
in obtaining this result . Tho following report from the Sub-Committeo appointed to inquire into tho working of the Secretary ' s office was presented , adopted , ancl ordered to bo entered on the minutes : —
To the Committee of Management of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . The Sub-Committoo appointod at the meeting of the Committee on Wednesday , 11 th September lust , " to inquire into the working of the Secretary ' s office . " have to report that thoy have held two
meetings , namely , on the 31 st October and 5 th of November respectively , and the Secretary prodneed the minutes containing the report of tho Snb-Committeo defining his duties and emoluments at the time of his appointment in 1872 , and the dates of the minutes showing tho various changes in tbe latter that have beon made , also the minutes
containing the appointment of a permanent clerk , as well as the report of the Sab-Cominittee defining the duties and emoluments of the Collector on his appointment , all of which were fully considered and due inquiry made aa to whether each had faithfully performed his allotted task . The Snb-Committee havo much pleasure in stating
that they fotmd such waa tho caso , and that , at the instance of tho Secretary , the office hours had been extended from 4 p . m . to 5 p . m ., such extension having been rendered necessary in hia opinion by the ever-increa 3 i ' ng work of tho Institution . In viow of certain statements that had bson made , that the
Collector had received commission on saoi 3 which had not been received by him , the Snb-Committeo desire to call particular attention to Clauso 9 of tho report of tho Sub-Committee appointod on 9 th June 1 S 30 , to consider the duties to be performed by him , and tho commission to bo paid , and which report was approved at a Special
Committee on the 22 nd of Jnno 1 SS 0 . Such clauso is as follows : — 9 . " That he be paid a commission of 5 por cent , upon all sums recoivod by him , with tho exception of tho 3 e paid on the day of tho Festival and up to and inclusive of tho settling day , and also excepting any amounts paid into the office , and for which receipts are
given by the Secretary or Clerk . " On inquiry of the Secretary , he pledged himself that in no caso had moneys sent to him after tbe settling clay been handed over to the Collector , in order that ho should receive a CDmmission on them , nnless tho person so remittiog the money requested that it
might bo so handed over , and as no mernbor of the Sab-Cunmitteo ( even including the mover of tho resolution npon which the Sub . Committee was appointed ) was ablo to name any one case upon which inquiry could be made , and aa no complaint had been received at the office , your Sub-Commit tee are of opinion that all moneys
which tho Collector bar ! been paid he was fully entitled to , in accordance with the terms of his appointment . Looking at the fact that the Committee of Management had lately
had so favourable an opinion from Bro . Smith , the Grand Lodge Auditor , n , 3 to tho mode of keeping the accounts , your Sub-Committee do not think it necessary to again travel over that ground . Dated this 13 th day of November 1889 .
Applications were made by two widows for the half of their late husband ' s annuities . In ono case tho application was granted , but in the other it was deferred for tho necessary certificate . Ten petitions ( six male and four
widows ) wore considered , with tho result that four of tho former were accepted and two refused , and tho four . lattar accepted , the names being ordered to bo placed on tho lists of candidates for the Election in May 1890 . The usual vote of thanks was passed to the Chairman .
