and 2189 Ashburton . The sum of - £ 10 10 s , being a moiety of the sum necessary to obtain a Life Governorship in tho

Tho principal alterations in the rules which had been revised wero : —Instead of giving to the Provincial Graud Master any votes in respect of tho sums paid over to tho fund by Provincial Grand Lodge , which havo hitherto been treated as donations , tho new rules provide that each

Lodge shall havo votes annually in proportion to the amount of its quarterages paid to tho Provincial Grand Lodg ? . Facilities aro afforded for inquiries into the position of applicants ? , aud provision is made for excluding from the voters' list tho name of any brother who is not

considered to be in a position entitling him to become a recipient of tho fund . An endeavour is mado to secure tho right of electing annuitants to bonajide donors and subscribers only . The total receipts of the Fortescuo Annuity Fund were £ 336 8 s 7 d , including a balance of £ 38 lis lOd ,

and of this sum £ 270 had been paid to annuitants . Thero was a b'dance in hand of £ 50 13 s 8 d . The capital account amounted to £ 2 , 558 Is Id . Tho reports wore received and adopted . Tho Committee of Petitions , in submitting thoir annual statement to the Provincial Grand Lodge ,

reported that their efforts had been as successful as on any former occasion . For this year they had received from tho Provinco 2 , 900 votes , an increase of 211 over tho previous year , and of 400 over 1887 . This increase was largely duo to a great effort made to support the Provincial

Grand Master , who accepted tho Chairmanship at tho Annual Festival of tho Royal Masonic Institution for Hoy ? , and to Bro . the Rev . T . W , Lemon , M . A ., who by his personal donations of 285 guineas to these Charities , in addition to former subscriptions , was now vice-patron of

each , and possessed the largess number of votes in the Province . Bro . the Rev . W , Whittley , by his admirable uiuijaqeuiont was enabled to secure the election of the

widow of a deceased brother on tho "Widows' Fund , and a i / irl to tho GinV School . Ho had also helped largely to ecnro the ejections of a widow and a brother . It should

be remembered that a greater mmioer of votes was required at each election to elect a candidate , and therefore every Lodge and every brother were earnestly invited to keep their votes ior the Devon candidate : ' , aud it would much
