Stuart 1002 , & c . The Lodge having been opened and the minutes confirmed Brother H . B . Brown was invested as Junior Deacon , ho having been absent at the last

meeting of the Lodgo ( the Installation ) . Three candidates for initiation were unanimously accepted—Messrs . A . Crocker , C . E . Snowdon , and J . Bingham—these gentlemen being subsequently initiated by the Worshipful Master , who also conferred the third degree on Brothers Wetzel , Weigand and White , going through the work in a most efficient manner , and giving evidence of careful study and preparation .

Two candidates were proposed for initiation at the next meeting , the request of a Brother in distress complied with , some formal business transacted , and then the Lodge was closed , the Brethren adjourning to the Banquet Room , where an enjoyable evening was spent , tho Steward of the Lodge * Brother Miller being most energetic in supplementing the efforts of the Manager of the Hotel in seeing that everyone was properly provided for . After the Loyal toasts had been honoured , tho gavel was passed to the

I . P . M ., who gave the toast of tho Master . Tho Brethren must have been very pleased , said Bro . Toye , at the way in which the Worshipful Master had conducted the business that night . His performances had been such as to bring credit on the Lodge . They must all hope he might have a very successful continuation of that day's proceedings during the time he occupied the chair . They now knew his capabilities for work and it was their duty to see he was fully employed .

The Master tendered his thanks , but he felt too much credit had been bestowed upon him , as he had but done his duty . It having fallen to his lot to be placed in the chair he was only too pleased to do anything that was required of him , to the best of his ability . But he could not take all the oredit to himself , as he recognised it was the great help he had received from bis Officers that had enabled him to act as he had done .

The health of the I . P . M . was now given from the chair , the Master speaking of the readiness of Bro . Toye at all times to give any advice or assistance asked of him . It afforded him much gratification on the present occasion to ask Bro . Toyo ' s acceptance of a little souvenir for Mrs . Toye—an elegant diamond and gold bracelet . Tt was offered as a token of respect from the Lodge to Bro . Toye , for the way in which ho had worked tho ceremonies and advanced the welfare of tho Lodge during his recent term of office in the chair ;

Bro . Toye tendered his thanks , alike for the kind words and reception accorded him , as for the handsome present for his wife . He considered the Lodge was being conducted in a very satisfactory manner , and he ventured to think they were going on in a fair way of progress . He referred to the Lodge of Instruction connected with the Lodgo and advised all who aspired to Office to attend it , while those who desired to become Life Governors of

the Institutions would find there an easy method of securing that distinction . This latter would really start the first week in December , by which timo they hoped to have at least fifty shares taken up , so that a draw could be made at each meeting . Ho had especially to thank tho Brethren on behalf of his wife , for the handsome present for her , which he was sure would be fully appreciated , aud being wholly unexpected would be all the moro valued .

The toast of the Initiates was heartily honoured , each of the new Brethren responding . Next came the toast of the Visitors , with which the names of Bros . Mulvey and Morgan wore coupled , Bro . Gildersleve boing afterwards asked to add a few words .

Tho toast of tho Treasurer and Secretary and that of the Past Masters were associated , their worth being spoken of and thanks being tendered them for all they had done in the past . " Bro . Gieseke Treasurer thanked them very much for the kind reception accorded him . Ho had the interests of the Lodge at heart . So long as he was spared he felt he should be always proud of association with it .

The Secretary also replied , expressing approval of the position to which the Lodge had attained . They had made three moves during its existence , and had increased at each , so that ho felt they was progressing , especially in view of the work they had had to perform that day . In proposing the Officers , tho W . M . said he had previously remarked that , the Brethren who held office in that Lodge were all capable of performing their work , and would be a credit to any Lodge they might bo associated with . He wished them every success and promotion in the future .

Bro . Peters S . W . replied . He had been very much impressed with the way in which the Master had worked the two ceremonies that day , and felt the Officers could not do moro than hope they might be equally officient , should they rise to the same high distinction . Each oi the remaining Officers added a low words , and thus an enjoyable meeting was brought to a conclusion . 0 0 0
