The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bros . Henry Cohn and Nathan Lebrecht being candidates . Those Brethren , who were initiated about a month ago in the Samson Lodge , answered the questions leading to the second degree without assistance , and retired . Bro . Bowen was entrusted , the Lodge was opened in the second degree , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed . Both ceremonies were impressively rendered .
Lodge was resumed to the first degree and Bros . Henry Cohn and Nathan Lebrecht of No . 1668 and Bro . H . C . Haughton of the Mother Lodge , No . 1227 , were elected members , which compliment was acknowledged by Bros . H . Cohn and N . Lebrecht .

High Street , Maldon , on Wednesday , 30 th ult . The Hall having been only recently acquired , practically only the large room and an ante-room had been prepared , but the way in which the work had been designed and carried out , under the direction of Bro . P . Beaumont , was universally admired .
Bro . T . P . Pechey W . M ., was re-installed by Bro . F . H . Bright , and Officers , were appointed . Light refreshments were served in the Hall , and subsequently the Brethren adjourned to the King's Head Hotel , where a banquet was well served by Mr . J . H . Best ( Chief Constable of Merioneth ) P . M . P . P . G . S . W . North Wales was installed as Worshipful Master , the ceremony being performed by Bro . Ben . E . Chadwick P . M .
At the close of the Lodge a banquet was held at the White Lion Royal Plotel , under the presidency of the Worshipful Master , when the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to in the customary manner .

M ., who has made himself very popular during his connection with the Lodge , has added to his reputation during his year of Office as W . M . by his diligent and painstaking working of the several ceremonies ; his crowning success was the admirable manner in which , after having raised a
Brother , he installed his successor Bro . A . E . Mason , who afterwards , on behalf of the members of the Lodge , ]> resentcd him with a handsome Past iMaster's jewel as a token of their appreciation for his excellent services during the past year . The jewel for some time past has not been so deservedly bestowed to a Master leaving the chair as in this case . It is to be hoped his successor will prove a worthy imitator , and endeavour to emulate the example set by Bro , Dailey .

Saviourgate , York , on Monday afternoon , on the occasion of the installation of Bro . Charles Gairood . Bro . J . Smith P . M . took the Senior Warden's chair , and Bro . W . Storey P . M . P . P . G . S . B . the Junior Warden's chair . The W . M .-
elect was presented for installation by Bro . F . H . Vaughan P . M . The ceremony was most impressively performed by Bro . Kilvington , assisted by Bro . A . Humphreys P . M ., and Bro . G . Lamb P . M . P . P . G . J . D . After the solemn obligation had been taken Brother Monaghan sang with fine effect the solo , "Be thou faithful , " from Mendelssohn ' s '" St . Paul , " and later in the afternoon , "Then shall the righteous , " from "Elijah . "
The installation banquet was held in the w mdmill Inn , Blossom Street , Bro . Garrood presiding over a large attendance . The W . M ., in proposing the King and the Craft , observed that it had been said , and there was a great deal of truth in the saying , that cverv civilised country had at its head the form of Government
it desired . We in England had at the head of our country a form of Government we desired , and he who was the Monarch was a worthy son of an illustrious mother . King Edward they , knew was a good , sound , and true Mason , and was also the first gentleman of the Empire .
The W . M . next proposed the Grand Master . and the Grand Lodge . The Grand Master , he said , would he felt sure carry out the duties of his high Office well and worthily . He was a worthy successor of his brother the King . In connection with the Grand Lodge , he mentioned the names of the Dean of York , Bro . Whytehead . and Bro . Peck .
The Very Rev . the Dean of York , on rising to respond , was received with loud appla . use . He said he was quite sure that on behalf of the Grand Lodge he might express their gratification at the cordial way in which they had drunk their health . He was sure that Grand Lodge felt as every Executive felt—that its very existence depended on its constituencies . There was not an
incessant agitation going on to turn out Grand Lodge , and get in another , or to turn the Masonic body upside down . In the members of Grand Lodge they felt that they had the right men in the right places , and the consequence was a calmness , a quietness , and a mutual confidence in the Masonic bod ) ' ' , which contributed a great deal to its stability and the happiness and pleasure of belonging to it . He paid a fitting tribute to the ability of the Grand Master ,
H-R . H . the Duke of Connaught , and went on to say what a pleasure it was for him to come and participate in the functions of a Masonic Lodge . He supposed that he was the oldest Mason present , for he had been a member of the Craft for fifty-four years . To the junior member present he could say that he was sure that if he had as long an experience of Masonry as he had had he would have the same feeling towards it as he had .
