which the Westminster Singers did justice ; humorous duets by Bros . Frank Boor and Mervyn Dene ; a violoncello solo by Bro . J . E . Hambleton ; and Bro . Harry Nicholls ' s quaint praise of " Eating , " a parody of the old German song known in this country as " Drinking . " Bro . CharLes E . Tinney and Bro . J . Carrodus ably superintended the musical arrangements .
********** Samson Lodge , No . 16 68 . THE regular meeting of this well known Lodge was held on Tuesday , at the Cafe Royal , Regent Street , W ., under the presidency of Bro . Joshua Cohn W . M ., who was supported by Bros . A . J . Casperd P . M . acting S . W ., W . Smith Rose J . W ., E . Hahn P . M . Treasurer , B . D . Barnett P . M . Secretary , H . Marks

Amongst the visitors we had much pleasure in seeing Bros . Alexander Levy P . D . G . Treas . 'Kimberley South Africa , Rev . S . J . Roco P . M . 1540 , J . Cohen P . M . 223 , J . Cohen 65 , J . Wynman , & c . Bros . H . Cohn , N . Lebrecht and S . Holz , who were initiated at the previous meeting , were entrusted . The Lodge was advanced and those Brethren were passed to the second degree . Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and Messrs . Morris Freeman and
Edward Joseph were presented as candidates . They were highly recommended , being proposed by well known Brethren , and the ballot when taken proved unanimous in their favour . In clue course they had the privilege of participating in the mysteries of Ancient Freemasonry . Both the ceremonies , including the full explanation of the working tools in the second degree and the ancient charge in the first were rendered in perfect manner .
Bro . B . D . Barnett P . M . Secretary rose and said he had a very unpleasant letter to read , one informing them of the death of Bro . A . L . B . Collins . He proposed that a letter of sincere condolence from the Lodge be sent to the widow , which was agreed to . Bro . Barnett with deep emotion also announced that Bro . B . Marcus had lost his father . He proposed in the name of the W . M .
and all the Brethren to offer him their sincere condolence , which rwas agreed to . Bro . Barnett said he had now a more pleasant communication to make . He had received a letter from Bro . J . M . McLeod P . G . Sword Bearer saying he was pleased to report that the pupil from the Lodge in the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys had been selected for higher education . This , the worthy Secretary said , was a high compliment to the Lodge .
A letter was read from Bro . S . I . Heilbron P . M . announcing that through illness he could not attend , and it was unanimously agreed that a letter of sympathy should be sent to him , wishing him speedy recovery . Several other letters were read from Brethren expressing their inability to attend , after which a gentleman was proposed for initiation at the next meeting .
The Lodge being closed , the company repaired to the banquet ¦ room , where an excellent dinner was provided , for which Bro . Gerrard the manager was personally complimented by the W . M . and several Past Masters . The Brethren having done ample justice to the well provided repast , the W . M ., in his usual able manner , and with hearty feeling , gave the Loyal toasts .
Bro . B . Fuld , in the absence of the I . P . M ., said it was a very long time since he had had the honour of giving the toast of a W . M . It was with the greatest of pleasure he now rose to propose the health of the W . M . of the Samson Lodge . - Their W . M . had again shown his ability as a ruler , and he called upon the Brethren to drink the toast with a good Masonic fire , which was done .
The W . M ., in reply , was received with quite an ovation . He said he was most delighted to hear his working that evening had given satisfaction . He hoped to continue in the same course to the further satisfaction of the Brethren .
Bro . Casperd P . M . said by desire of the W . M . he had much pleasure in giving the toast of the Initiates . It was sixteen years ago that he was initiated , but he had never seen candidates more attentive than the Brethren admitted that night . The impressive charge given at the end of the ceremony by the W . M . would no doubt make an everlasting impressiofi on their memory . Bro . Morris Freedman , in replv , said that being only an
apprentice they could not expect a long speech . What he had gone through that day was very impressive . He was verv grateful to the W . M . for having proposed him as a member , and was very pleased to have been accepted in the Samson Lodge . He should try to continue to deserve the confidence the Brethren had shown him that night , and in time to come he hoped to occupy the honourable position the W . M . filled at the present . ¦
Bro . Joseph said he could not add much to his Brother Initiate ' s speech , but he was sure that he would give satisfaction to the Brethren of the Samson Lodge in time to come . Bro . Baron Barnett P . M . Secretary , in his usual eloquent style gave the toasts of the visitors , and accorded them , on behalf
of the Lodge , a most hearty welcome . Bro . Alexander Lew P . D . G . T . Kimberley said it was a pleasure to him to rise to respond for the Visitors . Being a Past Master for fifty-two years he had had a little experience , but he had no hesitation in saying that he and the other Visitors were surprised at the excellent working- of the W . M . they had witnessed

that evening . He knew the W . M . before he could speak the English language , and therefore was most agreeably surprised to hear the ceremony so perfectly workrd , also the ancient charge given as it had been , to perfection—it was a groat credit to the W . M . and the Lodge .
Bro . Rev . J . J . Roco P . M . 1540 also sincerely thanked the Lodge for the cordial reception . It was not the first time he had visited it , but the first , time he had heard the various degrees worked in such an able and perfect manner ; it was a credit to the W : M . and the Samson Lodge . In a very short time the son of the W . M . Bro . Henry Cohn would be raised to the degree of a Master Mason , and he was sure the son would follow the good and faultless example of his father . He wished the Lodge continued prosperity and united friendship . Bro . J . Cohen P . M . 223 and other Visitors also made suitable response . Bro . B . D . Barnett P . M . Secretary of the Lodge in a short but eloquent speech responded on behalf of the Past Masters . Bro . Leon Rolfe , on behalf of the Officers , thanked the W . M ., saying that in the absence of the Inner Guard the W . M . asked him
to fulfil the duties of that position , which he considered a great honour ; later he officiated as S . W . at the banquet table , and really he did not know what and where he was ; at any rate he would be most delighted to fulfil any duties the W . M . might call upon him to discharge , and on behalf of the Officers sincerely thanked the members .
Some enjoyable harmony was contributed by Bros . Will Bentley and Frank Martin , who kept the company in high spirits with their excellent songs and recitations . Bro . Alexander Levy P . D . G . T . Kimberley , who is eighty-three years old , gave an excellent recitation , " like a young spark , " as one of the Brethren said . Bro . A . C . Hawkins officiated at the piano in his usual able manner .
The Tylers toast brought a most pleasant evening to a termination .
********** Duke of Cornwall Lodge , No . 1839 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held on Saturday evening , 9 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . A . E . Turner W . M ., who took the opportunity of congratulating His Majesty the King—after whom the Lodge was , by sanction , named—on the occasion of his birthday , in the following telegram :
'His Miajesty King Edward , Sandringham . The Worshipful Master , Officers and Brethren of the Duke of Cornwall Lodge , now assembled at Frecmnsons' Hall , London , most respectfully beg to offer to your Majesty Fraternal congratu . lations on this Anniversary of your Majesty ' s Birthday . " The subjoined reply was subsequently received from Sandringham :
" The Worshipful Master Duke of Cornwall Lodge , Freemasons' Hall , London . The King thanks you , and through you the Officers and Brethren of the Duke of Cornwall Lodge assembled , for your kind congratulations . "
Guardian Lodge , No . 2625 . THIS well known municipal Lodge held its usual meeting at the Ship and Turtle , Leadenhall Street , on Thursday , 31 st ult ., Bro . A . E . Pridmore , C . C ., W . M . Bro . H . W . Brown , B . A ., was unanimously elected Master for the ensuing year , Bro . J . Tollworthy , C . C ., Treasurer , Bro . E . C . Partridge Tyler , and Bros . Dennis , Pulcstone , and Longman Audit Committee .
A vote of tnanks was accorded to the retiring Master for his services in the- chair , and it was unanimously agreed that a Past Master's jewel should be conferred upon him . The Rev . Dr . Lindsay , D . D ., P . P . G . C . Middlesex , w : s elected a joining member . During the evening mention was made of the loss sustained
bv the Rev . P . Clementim-Smith Chaplain of the Lodge , by the death of his brother , a gallant soldier and a Brother , who lost his life while fighting on behalf of King and country in South Africa .
