Cuckow ns Worship ful Master was impressively performed by Bro . C H . Dowues , who was subsequently presented by the Lodge with a Past Master ' s jewel . The Worshipful Master appointed and invested the

Officers for the ensuing year . In consequence of th ? recent lamented death of tbe Treasurer of tho Lodgo ( Bro . H . G . Q rilter ) , tho installation banqnet has been postponed till tho January Lodge meeting .

HICKS-BEACH LODGE , No . 2407 . rriHE members of this flourishing young Lodge held their annnal - * - festival in Badbmok Hall , Stroud , last week , when Bro . James Kyle S . W . was installed W . M . by the D . P . G . M . Bro . R . V . Vassar-Smith G . S . D . At the conclnsion the I . P . M . Bro . N . Philpott was

presented with a handsome and well-deserved jewel in recognition of his past services . Tho Officers for the current year were appointed . At the close of the Lodge the brethren adjourned to the Imperial Hotel , where an excellent banquet was provided , and was followed by the usual toasts .

HEDWORTH LODGE , No . 2418 . THE ordinary meeting was held in the Masonio Hall , South Shields , on Thursday , 30 th ult ., Bro . William Dalziel W . M . presiding . ¦ There was a largo attendance . The members wero favoured with a visit from the Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge , those present including Bros . Joseph E . Pattison P . G . S . W ., R . Hudson P . G . S . B . England P . G . Secretary , Huntley Campbell P . G . J . D ., F . S . Cowper P . G . S . of Works , and John Joel P . G . Assistant Secretary .

. After the business of the Lodge , supper was partaken of , and the nsual toasts were honoured , Bro . R . Hudson responding for fche Grand Lodge and Bro . Pattison for the Provincial Grand Lodge Officers ; The mnsical portions of the proceedings were excellently rendered by a glee party under the direction of Bro . L . Winstono Organist .

Z ., Longman II ., H . Graham J . Chapter was opened in due form and the minutes confirmed . The ballot proving unanimous , Bros . J . H . Gunn , Jonathan Mason , and Jospph Mnson , of the Hendon Lodge , No . 2206 , were exalted into R . A . Masonry by the M . E . Z ., who , thongh

suffering from a severe cold and cough , exalted these brethren in ft most exemplaiy manner , making a great impression on the minds of the candidates . The M . E . Z . was ably assisted by his Officers . There being no other business the Companion adjourned to the banquet . The leading toasts were given by the M . E . Z . briefly but earnestly .

The health of the Z . wai given by Comp . Stiles , who in referring to his old friend and companion spoke of the great kindness and services he bed always received from the M . E . Z . This toast waa heartily received and suitably replied to by the M . E . Z . Tho health of fche H . and J . was next given .

Comp . Longman H ., expressed the great pleasure ha felfc in having succeeded in doing his duty to the satisfaction of the M . E . Z . Comp . Irvine acting J . also returned thanks , and expressed the happiness he felt in being able to assist . He should always be pleased to be useful , particularly in fche Sfc . Panoraa Chapter .

THE regular meeting was held at the Masonic Hall , Sheffield , on Thursday , 7 th inst . Bro . M . J . Dodworth W . M . presided , and was well supported ky his Officers and Brethren . The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed Bro . Ed . G . Whiteley of the Wentworth Craft Lodge , 1239 , was very impressively and ably

advanced to the degree of M . M . M . by the W . M . in a most praiseworthy manner . After the despatch of the remaining business on the agenda pap 3 r the Lodge was closed . The brethren adjourned to supper and a very happy evening was spent .

MARK MASONRY AT WIGAN .

ON Saturday an imposing function took place afc Wigan , the occasion being the holding of a meeting in commemoration of the Union of the English and Scottish Mark Lodges in 1872 . The Rose and Thistle Lodge ( 158 ) , now stationed at Wigan , waa formed for tbe purpose of marking the Union , and this year it celebrates ita coming of age . Opportunity was taken at the name time of marking

the twenty-first anniversary of the Union , whioh may be described as the starting point of the extraordinary progress tho Mark Degree has mado in England in recent years . The meeting was constituted under tho banner of the Rni > e and Thistle Lodrje , whioh was held by a special dispensation from the Provincial Grand Mastor , tho Earl of

Lathom Past Grand Master , in tbe Municipal Buildings , and there was a large attendance of brethren . After the reception of Bro . Lord Crawford D . P . G . M ., and Bro . J . Woodall Woodall P . G . M . for East and North Yorkshire , tbe ceremony of advancement was worked by the W . M ., Bro . W . Simpson Prov . G . S . W . After the M . W . Pro Grand Master of England ( the Right Hon . tbo Earl of Enston ) , who waa

accompanied by the Prov . Grand Muster of Cheshire ( the Right Hon . A . Tatton Egerton , M . P . ) , Bro . C . F . Matier P . G . W . Grand Secretary P . D . P . G . M . Lancashire , entered in procession , and after the reception tho Lodge was called from labour to refreshment . Subsequently a conversazione waa held in tbe Wigan Public Hall , and in the evening Bro . Simpson entertained some of the Grand Officers at dinner afc his residence .
