NORTHS AND HUNTS .

THE annual Provincial Grand Lodge was this year held at Huntingdon , on Thursday , 25 th ult ., and was very largely attended . Lodge was opened at the Town Hall , under the banner of the Socrates Lodge , No . 373 , at two o ' clock , the Board of Benevolence having met an hour previous . The capacious Assembly Hall had been transformed into a handsome Lodge Room , and arranged in an excellent manner .

The Right Hon . the Earl of Euston , D . L ., Provincial Grand Master presided , and was supported by Bro . J . Haviland Deputy Prov . Grand Master P . G . D . England , Bro . A . Cockerill Prov . Grand Treasurer , and a number of other Brethren .

Lodge having been opened in due form , and the general business having been transacted , the Provincial Grand Master proceeded to appoint and invest his Officers for the ensuing year , as follow : Bro . Harry Man field 1764 1911 - - - Senior Warden H . I . Haukin 2684 - Junior Warden

-E . Parkinson 2380 . ' Bro . J . J . Hart P . M . P . P . G . Dir . of Cers . Northampton acted as Director of Ceremonies . The invitation to hold the Provincial Grand Lodge next year at V ^ ellingborough , given by the Wentworth Lodge , was unanimously accepted .

The Deputy Grand Master , on behalf of the Brethren , expressed hearty congratulations to the Provincial Grand Master on his restoration to health , and again filling the position he had so worthily filled for many years past ; and the vote was ordered to be entered on the minutes .

The Earl of Euston briefly acknowledged the compliment , and expressed the hope that he would not be prevented from attending to the duties of his office either by ill-health or otherwise .

The Brethren subsequently sat down to a banquet at the George Hotel , the company . being augmented to about 140 . The Huntingdon Town Band , under the conductorship of Mr . E . Frost , was stationed outside the Hotel , and played during the banquet . The Provincial Grand Master presided , and was well supported .

Norths And Hunts.

On the toast list being proceeded with , the Provincial Grand Master first proposed the Queen and Craft , and in doing so made a pleasing reference to Her Majesty ' s 80 th birthday , which had been so greatly honoured and observed , not only throughout the country , but the whole of the civilised world .

The Provincial Grand Master the Right Hon . the Earl of Euston was proposed by Bro . Hankin , in excellent terms , and was replied to by his Lordship , who then submitted the toast of the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . J .

Haviland , M . A . His Lordship remarked upon the excellent manner in which Bro . Haviland carried out the duties of his office , and thanked him for having so worthily filled his place during his illness . Bro . Haviland made a brief reply , and thanked his Lordship for the remarks he had made concerning him .

rTIHE eightieth anniversary of the birthday of Her Most _ 1 _ Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria was celebrated in a marked and exceedingly loyal fashion in the historic town of Battle . At six o'clock in the morning a joyous peal from the church bells proclaimed the fact that England's beloved

Queen had reached the age of four score years , and in the evening one of the grandest services within the memory of the present generation was held in the fine old parish church , in the form of a Masonic Thanksgiving , which was numerously attended .

The following congratulatory telegram was despatched during'the evening : —

" To Her Majesty the Queen , Windsor , " The Freemasons assembled for a special service of thanksgiving , at Battle , offer their respectful and loyal congratulations to their beloved Sovereign . "

The Dean wore the scarlet habit of a Doctor of Divinity , and the collar of a Past Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of England . . For the auspicious occasion the choir was augmented by instrumentalists from the Hastings Corporation Band .

The choir and clergy robed in the vestry , whilst the Masons assembled in full dress clothing in the North Chapel . Led by the instrumentalists , the choir and clergy , to the singing of the well-known hymn , '' All people that on earth do dwell , " filed down the south aisle to the font , and up through

the nave to the North Chapel , where the procession was completed , the Churchwardens , Bro . C . Martin and Bro . J . G . Holt , carrying their wands of office , immediately preceding the clergy , who brought up the rear . The processional hymn , specially written for the occasion by a member of the Craft , and which bore the refrain :

. " Brothers of the Order of the mystic sign , Praise we all our Master , Architect Divine , " was also sung , as those in the procession took their respective seats . Prayers were intoned by the Rev . C . D . Cree ; the first lesson was read by Bro . the Rev . R . W . Loosemore ,
